Hello! I’m a filmmaker and life long Bioshock fan, been playing it since I was a kid on the ps3 and have been inspired by its story and setting ever since then.

I have been fortunate enough to grow into the a filmmaker as an adult and have had a group of friends that for years have wanted to take our own crack at bringing Rapture to life since no one in Hollywood seems to have been able to do it themselves.

A friend of mine runs a Virtual Production studio (same tech as Mandalorian) in Chicago and has made it his mission to utilize his stage and translate the underwater world of Rapture to Unreal Engine. We finally got all of our friends back together to push this filmmaking tech to it’s limits try to tell a story of what life might have been like under the sea right before all hell broke loose on the night of New Year’s Eve 1959

The PS1 was a golden age in game development when every crazy idea, or crazy mascot was made into a game. These are a handful of some of my favorite strange PS1 titles I’ve found and fallen in love with. All these games are fantastic, and I’m always on the look out for weird gems I’m missing.

Are there any I have to add that are currently missing, is there a favorite here you loved to play? Please let me know what other games fall into this niche category.

I started out as a handheld gamer in the 90s as a kid, I had my GB and GBA before I ever got my first console a GBC.. so I’ve always had a soft spot for the platform and devices. I’ve tried not to go over board over the years in getting multiple variants/editions of everything, but I’ve always been interested in having at least 1 of every generation to play and have access to their libraries for collecting games.

Some of these are my OG handles I got as a kid and when they came out, others I’ve gotten from friends to didn’t used them any more and wanted to donate to my museum. And a few I’ve picked up in the last 6 years at current market prices. I’ll try to break down everything below so you can compare and see how realistic a collection like this can be achieved in the modern market.

I’ve tried desperately not to get to hoarder/consoom levels… but do you think this is a reasonable collection or have I gone over board? I even I don’t have room for all this plastic in my apartment!

Most recent pick up at the shop, I find myself collecting absolutely classics or some pretty hilarious meme games. (Yes I’m trying to collect all the Bubsy games)

Where on the spectrum do you like to add to your collection? Are you only into the best of the best? Or do you like some potential trash in your museum?

Finally got the most important trilogy of films in my physical collection. Greg signed my copy of the Room. Yes, a confirm if you order a blu ray and ask him to sign it he will send a signed headshot and it’s glorious.

Do you guys enjoy seeing games restored or cleaned at all?

Recently inherited my buddy’s childhood collection of SNES games (mostly all licensed kids games) and they came in an old bag he stored them in for a a generation that completely disintegrated loose rubber dust covering all the cartridges.

A bit gross, but I went at them with a vibrating tooth brush clean out the crevasses, they were all still sticky especially all the labels that i wanted to preserve.

IPA wasn’t really doing the trick on the plastic. So lucky and thankful they were stored pins down so all of the actual pins were clean cause this could have been so much worse if not.

But a very very lightly damp and soapy paper towel did the trick to wipe everything down especially the label without any peeling or damage.

Was pretty satisfied with the results they look good as new and all run flawlessly! Hope there are a few tips and tricks yall can use for future cleanings.

Added my first GBA SP to my collection, I grew up with the OG version, and knew I had to add the strangest special edition to museum I could find.

This hilariously corny ad with Mario was living rent free in my head and knew exactly the one I needed to find. Was able to get this pretty quality condition 001 version for 100 bucks on eBay and it’s as ridiculous as I hoped it would be.

I never had a tribal tattoo… do you still have yours? Do you remember or ever had this edition unironically?

I don’t have a large amiibo collection, nor do I intend to start going down this rabbit hole. However the figures are of course still very fun and cool and there are a few for favorite characters and sentimental reasons I would love to have.

Finally finding the king, Solaire of Astora somehow still in box was a dream I never thought possible. Dark Souls has been personal and close to my best friends and old roommates hearts and in turn mine as well. I used to spend days back when we lived together watching them grind away as we would hang together and just enjoy a simple life being bros. It warms my heart to have those nostalgic memories together captured in the best way I could imagine. Praising the mother fucking Sun! 🌞

Yes, I did pay full market price of 100 bucks for him CIB and that is way to damn expensive. But I truly believed I would never find him in the wild like this in 2026.

Have you ever paid way too much for a sentimental gaming memento?

I’ve always had my eye on the Steam deck since its release, never has a ton of interest in any other even higher end handhelds in this category.

Never pulled the trigger on one but started to get scared once the OLEDs prices started to increase fearing I’d be priced out for good, so I’ve been on the search for a good final deal diligently of late.

Finally, at a used store around Milwaukee area, I saw a 512gb LCD, including oem case and charger in really nice condition that also had the Steam brand Dock and a 1TB sd cards with it as well all for 400 bucks.

Truly felt I was never gonna get a better deal again… so I went for it and I couldn’t be happier to have joined the club! Finally have access to my 18 year old steam library on my TV and have already turned it into an emulator machine!

Any recommendations on how to best optimize the device or the best games I must have? Did I get a decent deal or nah? I’m just happy to be here!

Found a pretty nice condition NeoGeo Pocket Color in a random IL suburb game store yesterday for 80 bucks. I had never seen this old Game Boy competitor before in person and it felt like a decent deal for the overall decent condition of the device. They were even selling a game with it so I figured heck why not for the handheld collection.

I don’t know a ton about the console, it seemed like it only sold like 200k units and the library is pretty limited but, any game recommendations or advice is welcome. I definitely at least want Sonic Pocket adventure.

Anyone else remember or have this system as a kid instead of a GB?

I got my 2012 Outback in 2017 and I drove it for as long as I could. After 165k miles and a bad engine overheat I drove him into the ground. Beyond sad to see him go this car got me through a lot in about 10 years of Midwest living.

But pretty excited for what I got in replacement. Ended up with a 2020 Onyx XT. Used 72k miles on it for around 21k. Even talked into a 1k trade in on my old Outback that didn’t drive any more

Most excited for the lil Turbo engine and towing capacity. The black rims really sold me to contrast the white I wasn’t the biggest fan of but is growing on me. Least excited for all these modern sensors that hate my tight city parking spot.

Any other XT owners having positive experiences out there? No way I wasn’t keeping it in the outback family going forward.

Seen a lot of Gameboy player talk recently, figured I’d pop in with a fun fact just in case you wanted (orange) spice up your GameCube!

Yeah, I know unfortunately the disc is the most expensive and preventing part but if you have to find the Spice Orange GB player Japan exclusive out there in the wild, it does work with any region GC including the NTSC disc.

Tetris is one of my all time favorite video games ever made. Besides just how simple, challenging and fun it is, but the history of the game coming over from Russia is even more fascinating. It’s been on my list to finally acquire a copy of Tengen Tetris for my collection because this was the famous short run copy that was taken off shelves when it was found out the the rights were not properly secured yet.

If you haven’t seen the Tetris Apple movie, watched any of the various documentaries on the subject, (including Tetris Forever which I still need for my collection…) I couldn’t recommend the story more!

Otherwise just wanted to share my grail and my small display of favorite Tetris versions.

Long story short, in popped in my local game shop on a random afternoon and saw a grail I genuinely thought I’d never see in person.. the one the only Pepsi Man…. Even being sold at lose disc price still included its case.. I could not pass up this opportunity.

But I couldn’t play it! So impatiently instead of figuring out a soft mod, I wandered in a different shop in my neighborhood and what were they odds they had a NTSC-J PS1 in box of all things collecting dust on their shelf’s. Sold it to me on a deal too because it had sat for so long.

Absolutely incredible I get to play its classic Japanese Gem, equal parts spent too much and got pretty incredible deals.

Are there any games in y’all’s collections that have made you pick up a whole console specifically to play one game? Anyone got any other recommendations for fun weird Japanese ps1 games I should find??

Found out one of my sports game grails is still available for purchase new on Amazon. I’m still trying to go all pro in dog football and there hasn’t been another game like it to scratch my competitive itch.. bark bark woof woof and all that.

I just find it so hilariously odd and charming, that a game Wii game is still available for purchase new in 2026. But the story behind this quirky game is kinda interesting. Turns out the developers themselves still have an EBay store open selling signed copies and even games by the case if you wanna drop ship and sell some dog football of your own… wild times but even kinda respectable if you are still hustling on a Wii game made in 2011.

Over the weekend, my GF and I finally sat down together and I finally powered out the last remaining 5% of my perfection run… I have finally reached the summit!!

I genuinely really couldn’t have done it with out her support in the background, while I was out basically dating the whole town, she just farmed and made money enough for us to get that silly 10m G clock. She’s the backbone of this run I truly never thought I’d achieve until I started achievement hunting and realized this was my one shot. On PS5 I am now one of less then 1% of the folks who play this game to get to this point and this is by far the rarest achievement I’ve unlocked on the platform. (Only a silver trophy?!? 😭)

A few thoughts and pieces of advice I learned along the way for those who also may wanna try to go for perfection and how I felt is best to accomplish it.

-Go for perfection last! Farm, have fun, make as much money as possible. Don’t bother with trying to accomplish this as you go because it does take some focus away from the fun RPG elements to just check boxes off a list, get to a good point where you have experienced the game and then just prioritize what remains.

-Save a little bit of EVERYTHING you produce, find and catch.. especially after the community center is finished! Don’t sell stock piles for cash, you will need it all for crafting and meals still and it makes it hell of a lot easier to just go through boxes and find what you need instead of waiting for seasons to return to wait and search.

-take every recipe from everyone and every festival. Even if it feels like you won’t make it take the recipe so you can complete your crafting list. The Wiki is your hero to go down the list and reference if you at least have everything there is to craft.

-I saved befriending the town for last.. probably not recommended! (Krobus was my house mate.. no marriage lol) But a pretty interesting way to finish the game. It turned the last part of my game into a town scavenger of Loved items trying to find everyone twice a week, and getting completely random cutscenes out of context that were fun treats along the way.

-You don’t have to date everyone to get perfection just get them to 8 stars. And focusing on your mastery to get the Totem of blessing to get extra heart days really helped speed that process along.

There is probably more little things I could discuss more but that’s just what comes to mind in the moment that could share now. I didn’t want to share any extra spoilers of my experience outside of the summit itself for those who are still trying to teach it to enjoy but there are a lot of fun little things I’m excited to have now in my perfect farm!

Broke out my little wolves gear collection to try to pull from every generation of the T wolves to pull off an upset tonight.

- I got a KG jersey (2014 - 2016 years) and a game worn KG sweatband from the 90s given to me as a gift to my father who was a writer for the Timberwolves when I was growing up back then.

- My modern Ant Trees jersey because of course 🫡

- A Derrick Rose Prince jersey from the Timberbulls years. (I live in Chicago so this was a surreal thing for both me and my friends)

-Finally a vintage 90s plush Crunch I’ve had since I was a kid as well because evening loves Crunch!!

I think my favorite part of this game is that it allowed you to let every weird intrusive thought I’d ever have win.

I finally managed to make my favorite Hatsune Miku / Hank Hill Meme a reality!! They loved each other from the start and finally came together with tiny Leon S. Kennedy as their son… Hank says “Dang it, I am Kawaii” and truly followed his heart.
