Shoes

Hi all,
I need some new SPD shoes. I’ve been using laced Giro Privateer for the past 7 years and they are battered. Not sure I want to spend a fortune but want something for long days. I’ve looked at some AliExpress / Temu shoes and they looked pretty impressive - any recommendations.

I’m doing mud, gravel and some road and I’ll be riding all seasons.

Any recommendations please?

How to improve?

Hi all,
I have a cycle scheme window approaching and I want to plan what I do with my voucher. I can max it out at £1500 for a new bike or get upgrades.

I’m considering both options but If I go down the upgrade route what would do? I don’t want to exceed more than £500-1000 if upgrading components.

Here how’s things sit:

2019 Genesis Croix De Fer 20 with Reynolds 725 steel frame. Genesis CR-1 carbon fork, Custom wheels featuring purple anodised Hope hubs, bladed spikes and DT Swiss RR481 rims.
Shimano Tiagra 10x2 group set & rotors with Tektro HyRD brakes.
Hope headset, carbon bottle cages.
Look pedals, Pirelli Cinterano M tyres.

I’m already thinking a group set upgrade is past due so that’s on the cards but as someone who wants the option of touring and maybe a little road work - what’s the best option for me?

Jump rope mat

Hi all,
I want to buy a jump rope mat but I don’t want to pay more than £25 roughly. What should I be looking for in a mat and are there any recommendations?

Tektro TRP HYRD adjustment help

Hello! Can someone tell me how to adjust this caliper please? It’s virtually useless under braking (pads are fine) and I know my normal mechanic (who is on holiday) always complains they’re a bit fiddly. Any help would be appreciated!

Is my laptop asking for retirement?

Hi all, I have a Dell G3 that I bought new as a gaming laptop in 2018. Truth be told I didn’t want to use it specifically as a gaming PC but mainly as something I could play Star Trek Online with, maybe the odd strategy game here and there etc but mainly to use for work (office applications and browser work).

I wanted value for money and in my experience, gaming machines tend to have a better spec and in theory would last me longer before a replacement was needed.

I have upgraded the RAM and replaced the screen hinges over the years but I’m finding this past few weeks that it feels slow and sometimes struggles to keep up.

I’m running windows 11 home.
Intel core i5 (9th gen) 9300H 2.4ghz
12Gb DDR4
NVidia GeForceGTX 1050 DDR5 3GB.
500GB HDD

I’ve wiped it recently and already using 300Gb some how.

Believe it or not I used to be a degree level student who loved building and playing with PCs but that was 20 years ago and times have changed massively. I’m so out of the loop now and I’ve become one of those guys who needs help.

Is my laptop asking for retirement? Can I do anything financially worth while to keep it going or do I go out and get something new?

Bike upgrade

Hi all,
I’m riding a 2019 Genesis Croix de fer with a Genesis CGR -1 carbon fork but I want something more modern with a wider tyre clearance and also something a little lighter.

So, I’ve looked online and come across a Canyon Grizl 5 AL. What would the consensus be around this change… a good change or not and what do people think about Canyon Grizl?

Red Dead & GTA V online Q

I loved Red Dead Redemption 1 & 2 on Xbox One. I’ve had a 7 yr break away from gaming and this week bought a Series S for casual gaming. I want to play RDR 1&2 again but want to understand if it’s a popular online game still or not?
Do all copies of RDR1&2 include RDR online?

Also same question for GTA V.

Bought a weighed rope

I’ve posted on here a little bit over the past month or so. I started to use a skipping rope (jump rope if you’re American) and found it to be a great form of exercise that I hadn’t yet been utilising for fat loss. I was asking a lot about form and every now and again someone would say my rope wasn’t the right type, so I took the plunge and bought a weighted rope.

Here’s my first attempt at using it… it took me a few rotations but already noticing that I’m having fewer stops and I think my form is already better.
How could I improve further?

Help me understand

I’ve decided to return to console gaming after a 10 year break, and I’ve bought myself a used series S. I know there’s lots of reviews out there that say it’s not the best but for someone who’s going to be casually gaming it looks perfect.

My last console was an Xbox one and whether it be down to changes from Microsoft or my bad memory, I’m a little bit lost when it comes to understanding whether it’s free to play online with games such as Red Dead 2 and grand theft auto etc. Do I need game pass? If so, which one?

New options

I love a cheesy smile for no reason.
Tried to stick with what was on my colour wheel thing… What do you think?

Hello!
I have an old 2012 iMac computer that has not been used for a while. I also have a six yr old Dell laptop that I use regularly. I’m considering 2 options.

  1. Upgrade the Mac and run Open Source legacy

  2. Get a desktop screen and link up my laptop to it.

Which would be more cost efficient and additionally in your opinion, the better choice?

I’ve shortened the rope, tried widening my stance, bending knees slightly…. I’ve tried to take on everyone’s advice to get this movement nailed but I still can’t seem to get it. What’s wrong with what I’m doing now?
