omfg AMETHYST MOON FINALLY COMPLETED "THE IRISH'S SANITY"!! GO READ IT NOW!

One of the dark romance QUEENS, Amethyst Moon, the author of His Dark Mercy, just finished The Irish's Sanity on Wattpad. PLEASE go read it before she takes it down so she can publish it. It'll probably be up for a few more weeks.

This book is extremely dark! Lachlan is probably the coldest, sociopathic, void of empathy, bad guys stay bad MMC I've ever read. He's a hot ass Irish Mafia (whatever that is lol) all powerful, totally obsessed, "in love", stone cold man.

Isla goes to visit a friend in Ireland, has a sexy romp one night, and catches the attention of Lachlan, which is all it takes for her to be claimed in all ways by him. It's one of the few dark romances that actually managed to get physical and verbal reactions from me.

"Lets see you fly." IYKYK! *bangs on table!*

The following tropes included:

mafia, OTT, cruel hero, toxic abuse, violence, dark love, blood, kidnap, forced proximity, touch her (speak to her) and DIE a BRUTAL death, manipulation, dub con, guilded cage, some torture, slight age gap but not important, interracial romance, pregnancy (way later in the book, but it's still fucked up), FMC tries to resist, run, fight back...does not work at all, near death experience....so much happens in this book yo..

I feel like listing the tropes doesn't even do the book justice.

It's also a long read

Honestly, if you need any convincing to read this story, please allow me to lol

GO READ IT!

Thoughts on Omegaverse and Shifter Romance Lore?

Okay, so over time, omegaverse and shifter lore has been creatively added to, shifted, etc. But I'm starting to get confused about where it's headed and it what it means to different readers. I'm curious. What is your favorite era of omegaverse / shifter lore, or what is your favorite version of the lore?

Listed below is my understanding of some of this:

  1. Right before there was omegaverse, instead of Alphas and Omegas, there was Dominants and Submissives; genetic and biological categories, not BDSM related. Doms were volatile, aggressive, prone to rage and/or shift, and extremely protective! Subs were gentle, super emotionally sensitive, highly regarded, well protected, etc. I typically saw this in either vampire fanfic or werewolf romance. Humans were non shifters and excluded from this.
  2. Werewolf and Lycan lore has ALWAYS had Alphas, Betas, and Omegas. It was a pack social rank thing, rather than a biological category. Alphas are the leaders, betas are the warriors/right-hand men, omegas were either the rest of the pack, or omegas were lowly and undervalued members of the pack.
  3. Then Omegaverse was created, which is a combo of the above two points, and on MY end, I saw it bloom in shifter romances. I am JUST NOW learning about Dean Winchester on AO3? But I know for a fact there's plenty of us who remember it the other way, being the start of omegaverse.
  4. Now, fast forward to today, omegaverse is EXTREMELY saturated with polyamory and reverse harem. And packs are just 3-4 ppl groups of fuck buddies. That's literally not what a pack is. There's nothing wrong with those tropes in general, but for me and some other ov fans, it seems soooo odd compared to how omegaverse started. Because the lore of OV and shifter romances with fated mates doesn't really "allow" for so much poly, due to the nature of the beings. They're super protective, "mine, mine, mine!", blessed by the gods with a one true mate, extremely territorial, etc.

It's hard for me to find a non poly/harem/why choose OV story and I hate that. No shame to the tropes themselves, but within this realm of things, it's so disjointed for me.

I'm curious to hear feedback on this.

Also, please feel free to provide any OV or shifter book suggestions that follow the "original" lore I mentioned above lol I'm craving it really bad! I love Wattpad and KU, still trying to like AO3 lol

Thoughts on Omegaverse & Shifter Lore?

Okay, so over time, omegaverse and shifter lore has been creatively added to, shifted, and combined. But I'm starting to get confused about where it's headed and it what it means to different readers. Particularly, the change in the concepts of packs, fated mates, and biological assignments. I'm curious. What is your favorite era of omegaverse / shifter lore, or what is your favorite version of the lore? *We are keeping this in modern-day context. I am not talking about the origins of werewolves and shifters, alone. We would be going all the way back to the 1st century if that were the case. I'm talking about the origins of omegaverse and it's overlap with shifter lore*

And somehow people think that's the very start of omegaverse? Is it just that simple?? I know for a fact that there's plenty of us who remember it the other way, being the start of omegaverse.
  4. Edit: So Omegaverse as its own niche thing, completely separate from shifters, originated in Supernatural fan fiction. Not the inner concepts. Got it.
  5. Now, fast forward to today, omegaverse is EXTREMELY saturated with polyamory and reverse harem. And packs are just 3-4 ppl groups of fuck buddies. That's quite frankly, not what a pack was, in the usual, previous understanding of a pack. A pack is a large group of people with societal standards and norms. A mini society even. There's nothing wrong with those tropes in general, but for me and some other ov fans, it seems soooo odd compared to how omegaverse started. Because the older lore of OV and shifter romances with fated mates doesn't really "allow" for so much poly, due to the nature of the beings. They're super protective, "mine, mine, mine!", blessed by the gods with a one true mate, extremely territorial, etc. So it's interesting to see where OV is going with all of this.

It's hard for me to find a non poly/harem/why choose OV story and I hate that. No shame to the tropes themselves, but within this realm of things, it's so disjointed for me.

I'm curious to hear feedback on this.

This is just casual and curious banter, not about getting super technical. A lot of ppl still ask about omegaverse lore or just don't understand it. This is me just gathering more details as a long time shifter romance lover.

Also, please feel free to provide any OV or shifter book suggestions that follow the "original" lore I mentioned above lol I'm craving it really bad! I love Wattpad and KU, still trying to like AO3 lol

Good Omegaverse with NO Reverse Harem, Poly, or Cheating?

It really saddens me that lately omegaverse has turned into a subgenre of fuck fests and mostly poly romance when it originally wasn't like that at all. I just want some juicy good omegaverse with mates, perhaps pack society, M/F, M/M, or F/F. It's hard to find OG Omegaverse, is basically what I'm saying.

I also miss when omegaverse was for shifters or paranormal beings. Even if they are human adjacent, thats fine too, but please no modern day human A/B/O set up. (I could care less about Alpha CEOs and stupid hockey shit) It isn't a super requirement but I LOVE werewolf/Lycan omegaverse.

I'm looking for yearning, very intense romance, dark elements, and "traditional" omegaverse AU/settings like a primal environment, packs, fated mates, barbarianism, volatile Alphas, submissive/gentle Omegas, etc.

I'd love if pregnancy and/or breeding is in the story as well please. It's like a pretty bow on top in OV lol

Please NO Addison Cain and Zoey Ellis.

No extreme BDSM and sex dungeons please.

I'm okay with pretty much everything else. I love age gaps, interracial, cruel hero, sunshine x grumpy, saved omega, dub con, some non con...all the good stuff lol

thank yooou :)

How do you craft your romance stories?

I love learning how different writers write in different orders and build their stories in a multitude of ways. It's so inspiring and helps me approach projects I have in different ways. I'm unlearning the rigid ways of writing that we learn about it higher learning, especially as an essay writer. Now that I'm getting into more creative, niche, romance, prose, etc. writing, I just love to hear about how you guys craft your story ideas into something whole and nice.

-My favorite way is "reverse engineering". I will take a small concept or feeling that I'm craving to get when reading, and build a story around that. So for instance, I'll think something like "How would a innocent, morally good, spiritualist young woman find herself in a toxic dark romance, if she's so intuitive? How would a story like that even become?" And from there I start adding ways a person like that could be caught off guard, they're not easily gullible and they have means of "protection". Then from there I craft the type of dark person that would be able to pull that off, so now an entire character is created around that. Then I just build and build the story up until it makes sense.

-Very rarely can I just start from the very beginning and continue on and build the story that way. Writers who can do that, I think you're so freakin cool!

What do you do? Do you take the story rewritten approach, working backwards, working from the middle and blooming out, do you get inspired by a certain scene, alternate endings, etc? I'm curious to know!

Any OMEGAVERSE or SHIFTER romance writers out there?

I'm looking for some omegaverse or shifter (werewolves are the best but I don't discriminate) romance writing buddies.

I have some writing buddies here and there, but I'm learning that since omegaverse comes with it's own lore, and writers also tend to add to that lore and often make it unique, it's like writing in a whole different genre of its own to where most writing pals don't quite get it.

I'd love to share some lore ideas, shifter v. non shifter concepts, help with certain writing ideas and concepts, etc.

** Also I'm on Discord so if that's your thing, we can always head over there. But it's totally not required. I love both my reddit and discord buddies:) **

I WAS RIGHT ABOUT ALICIA AND BILLY!!

I LITERALLY SAID THAT ALICIA IS NOT IN ON THINGS BECAUSE SHE'S NOT THAT BRIGHT!

He literally just said on the reunion that he has invited her to go over their finances multiple times before, and she has never shown up. She instead alludes to "meetings being boring". SO INSTEAD YOU COMPLAIN ABOUT BEING LEFT OUT OF YALLS FINANCES?! Alicia was NOT right for that. She basically threw Billy under the bus for the sake of a storyline, in my opinion.

I said before, and ppl got their panties in a bunch lol, that its not fair for Alicia to make her story seem like she's the victim and probably dealing with financial abuse or something, but clearly that's not how Billy sees things or how he comes off, especially when he seemed confused by her little Crayola poster board presentation. He told her then, she's never a part of the business side, and she's always "let him" handle it.

Alicia put herself in the blind by barely working (she self-admitted!), refusing to be a part of important financial decisions/meetings, and just...not being that bright!

A lot of us also said that their financial dynamic would probably shift, if they were actually moving towards a marriage AND LOOKY LOOKY! He presented her with 50% as they are moving to finally getting married!

*shrugs*

There was always an order to things.

You cannot cry about being uninformed and left out of finances...when you refuse to participate or get any understanding of the finances. Like plenty of people have said before, she lives a life of luxury, she wants for nothing, they are not hurting for money, so that little story line was really convenient for someone who has zero interest in being involved in the finances and actual business side of things.

Does Matryoshka Get ANY BETTER?! I Think It's DNF Worthy

So I'm only on chapter 6; granted, the chapters are extremely long.

I just...CAN'T get into this book. It has a lot of the tropes I like, but its like they're done so wrong.

This FMC seems like she has a freakin lobotomy. It's one thing to be submissive, it's another to be a doormat...it's a whole nother thing when they're just bleak, flat, unbelievable, and boring! She doesn't have any real reaction to being in this horrible situation. You just got kidnapped, taken to another country, and painfully raped.. why are you crying, clinging onto him, and then asking him what his tattoos mean and how he learned to cook? I can only suspend belief so much...and I really really do not like this FMC.

The MMC is very dark, but he contrasts the FMC to the point where it's unlikable.

The author is doing WAY too much trying to immerse the reader, by overly describing the environment and settings. IDGAF about what all these Russian buildings are and the different names of conservatories and schools, different cheese and caviar names in French, etc. It's just too much. It's annoying and idk if I'm reading dark romance or a history book. please.

It just seems like book reads like:

Russian, french french, russian, rape, bleeding, crying, caviar, russian, tattoos, chees, french, drugging, french russian, rape, bleeding, russian, anal, guns, french, rape, bleeding, crying.

I just dont get it.

Does it get any better? Is this just the set up and then the story picks up? Is it always going to be painful, ripping non con? Is there any character development? I've read that the FMC doesn't really change, but I haven't seen much about the rest of the book.

So I Finally Read "The Community" by Deathsdoll...OMG

BOOMSHAKALAKAAAAAA!!!!

I AM IN THE BIGGEST READING SLUMP I HAVE EVER BEEN IN BECAUSE OF THIS BOOK. This is the best book I have read all year and I am obsesssseeeed!

Ms. Doll had to see me personally...literally had to speak to her directly because of this book! I gave play by play reactions because I just gobbled this book up and read it all day and all night. This book could be a whole Netflix Series!

*Mind you: I judge popular book recs on reddit the hardest. Because 9x/10 the books that get overly suggested on here, are not all that and extremely overhyped...BUT THE COMMUNITY?! Shook me. So I must say, thank you EVERYONE who suggested this to me. I doubted you..deeply..*

I love how all of the characters had something going on without it becoming too chaotic or irrelevant to the story.

The main characters were written very well! Even when you want to dislike some of them, you're so intrigued by them that you just have to keep reading to figure them out.

Father is just...ugh...I just know that man is so fine. He's the most coy, cunning, manipulative, cool headed, fine ass villian I have ever read. (It's really bad that I also would walk right into his red flags and get trapped).

This book did not take the "cult" concept too far, avoiding making it gimmicky. It's almost like an ambiguous term for this interesting group of people and the setup. The author does a wonderful job at inadvertently suading the reader to root for the villians because again, you just end up wanting to figure all of this out and see where it goes.

The manipulation trope.. UGH one of my favorite tropes ever and let me tell yall....

THIS BOOK IS MANIPULATIIIVE! THE LIES! THE PLOTTING! THE MENTAL GAMES! uughhh! omg ..Had me screaming, crying, throwin up all at once. er!"

The Community is a long read but in the best way possible. The pacing was wonderful. I want to learn how to prioritize detail and plot so much that I don't think about word count, just like Ms. Doll did. I didn't want it to end, and it seemed like it never would lol

I also would say this book isn't super dark, more than it is mysterious, alluring, with dark elements. If you like manipulation, coercion, unreliable characters, non con so manipulative its practically dub con, age gap, ensemble cast lol, domesticity, hard earned submission, slightly sassy FMC, and forced proximity, you.will.devour.this.story.

FINAL RATING: 9/10

P.S. I said I was going to read Astrid Jane Raye books next and If I Can't Have You. But this slump is killing meee, so if anyone has a suggestion similar to The Community, I WANT IT! (although I truly think there's nothing quite like this story)

Tools that Helped You Strengthen Prose??

What tools, other than classes, helped you strengthen your prose/writing skills? Any tips and tricks will work too!

I can always make a good story. The characters are strong, the plots are unique, or at the very least, really good. I can write the flow of a scene pretty well. However, when seaming it all together and putting it into concise writing, it's extremely difficult for me. I can write a mean essay, but fiction writing is very difficult for me, and takes me 5x longer. I would say it's not eloquent enough and sometimes it's too wordy. Like muddled with simple words.

I really want to improve this.

I have been told by pretty great writers, and even a professor, that it could just mean I'd make for a good "bare bones" writer, but even then I still feel like I could use some work.

The crazy thing is, my poetry is the total opposite lol I've had some work published numerous times. So why can't I get it to connect? UGH

Please help.

I need some sort of reading partner / confidant for The Community read.

YALL!! I'm feeling angsty and I'm fully immersed...I'M ONLY ON CHAPTER 7!

Is there anyone CURRENTLY reading The Community? Read buds where are youoouu?

I can already tell that this is probably the best suggestion I've ever gotten off of this sub, and there are 51/54 freakin chapters. I haven't even scratched the surface! This is the only kind of slow burn I like because it's making me anxious. I just knoooow this is about to be some shit and I need someone to read along with LOL fr. Because I feel late to the party.

I can feel this is going to be my best read of the year so far. Thank you all for getting me on the AO3 train.

HOT TAKE: Wattpad & AO3 Dark Romances are often better than Kindle Unlmtd.

Every single one of my favorite DR stories were written on Wattpad first or is still on there lol

My "immediately next" TBR on Wattpad is so full that it won't let me add to it anymore.

I don't know why it is, but I find EXACTLY what I want in a book, no more, no less, at times, way easier than when I sift through published recommendations.

Haley Stuart/Inez

Astrid Jane Ray

ANSA Reads

Amethyst Moon (kinda too obviously though. her syntax still needs lots of work)

Eris Belmont

Laena Writes

Lilith Vincent

are all from WP and if you think about it, they all have that same punch or vibe to their stories but all write extremely different.

And there's a difference in their stories than all of the other authors that didn't start posting online first.

Sometimes I get frustrated because I want to suggest more books than those...but they're all on Wattpad lol and now I'm starting my descent into AO3 because I noticed that those stories get more suggested on here than stories that are still on Wattpad. I think WP has a more "childish" reputation because of how it started, and it's less dark romance-centered than AO3. They also drove a lot of readers away when they started their pay for premium and ads. TOTALLY understandable because I will not use WP if i don't pay that $4.99 a month. But it's totally worth it.

I just want to use my $11.99 a month on KU more! lol

*idky I wrote this. wondering if anybody else feels the same?*

EDIT: I think this is also because the tagging system is more accurate. If the author says x,y and z. takes place, then those are the exact main tropes you'll be reading all throughout the story. So the reader gets to find what they want in a DR more precisely and quickly.

Dark Showdown: Whats The Best Deathsdoll book?

If I Can't Have You vs. Bough and Paid For vs. The Community

The amount of times I have been suggested these stories by this author is something serious. I have never read anything on A03 before, and of course I'd like to rip off the bandaid, jump in head first and go balls deep :)

It's clear that they all have my favorite dark elements/tropes: !!VIOLENCE!! (lol) manipulation, kinks, non/dub con, ABUSE in several shapes and sizes, kinks, housewives question mark?, psychopaths, Stockholm syndrome so bad they might actually live in Stockholm, kinks, smut aaand somehow we get an HEA from all of the depravity. How glorious!.

Since yall LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE suggesting these stories, I am highly curious to know

Which do yo think is the best? Which is your fave? Why? Just....why?! lol

This will determine which one I read first and I WILL be reading one of them within 1-2 business days. Solely based on this post alone lol

p.s. I have yet to read a dark romance that has topped the works of ANSA Reads and Amethyst Moon. I have a feeling now..that I just might have found the author to do it lol

EDIT: I've decided! I'll read The Community, If I Can't Have You, and then Bought and Paid For. :) Honorable Mention: I'm throwing in Matryoshka somewhere in that line up

This is a fun banter post!

WWTBC/Request: Mafia/Cartel MMC, Nurse FMC, she cares for him, he becomes infatuated, takes her/ demands she comes with him

I put Request/WWTBC because I'm sure there are multiple storiesthat go just like this, and I would read this kind of story set up multiple times so I'm open to all possible answers lol

  1. It was definitely an interracial romance. FMC is Black, MMC is either Cartel or Mafia. She's a nurse.

  2. He somehow ends up in the hospital and becomes infatuated with her as the one taking care of him. I think the hospital staff tells her she will be his nurse and that she has been specifically requested.

  3. When it's time for him to go, or he wants to leave prematurely, as mafia dickheads tend to do lol, he demands she's the one to come with him to "keep taking care of him". Doesn't give her much of a choice.

  4. She doesn't know he's in the mafia but speculates because everything is hush hush, and they only allow certain people around, etc., and he (and the people that come see him, probably his consigliere/underboss, father, etc) are demanding, scary, etc. She knows she's getting into something dark.

  5. Romance ensues.

WWTBC: FMC taken or saved by paranormal/fantasy MMC, forced to acclimate/accept it, her friend falls before she does

- FMC and friend/acquaintance/another girl are taken/kidnapped/saved by paranormal guys. I believe they were either vampires or some dark being, like a demon or something. The guys keep them and want them to get with the program. The friend FMC's "friend" is kept by the MMC's right hand guy/friend. (this is human x paranormal)

- The FMC is kinda being forced to acclimate or accept her circumstances. Can't remember if this is a fated mates or just chosen as mates. When she doesn't, the MMC "punishes" her. Not exactly physical abuse, moreso than keeping her locked away in his chambers, manipulation, fear tactics, etc. or something. I believe there's some dub con in there.

- The FMC becomes conflicted because there's definitely attraction there, but lots of fear. She is NOT super sassy or bratty, but resistant at first for sure.

- The FMC notices and is taken aback that her friend seems a bit "cozied up" with the other guy. She's further conflicted. Later on, when she gets a moment with the friend, the friend is kinda awkwardly "not on her side" anymore, and hints that it's not so bad, maybe she should just accept him/the situation. (Because the friend has obviously already fallen for and accepted her guy.)

- Can't remember any other plot but the romance builds, and there's definitely an HEA

- - It is NOT werewolves, it's not historical.

So so sorry that I don't have more details! It's been a WHILE since I read this. I can't stop thinking about it. I read it on KU but theres a sliiiight chance it could've been on Wattpad too. I know for sure it was NOT AO3!

- It is NOT werewolves, it's not historical. It's more romance and relationship plot heavy than it is worldbuilding fantasy.

So so sorry that I don't have more details! It's been a WHILE since I read this. I cant stop thinking about it. I read it on KU but theres a sliiiight chance it could've been on Wattpad too. I know for sure it was NOT AO3!

Please help!
