Boy went off to fish alaska

Boy went off to fish alaska

Cajun pasta & Caesar salad by the ship's cook.

My (54m) son (17m) left to join a fishing crew in alaska the day after his high school graduation. He is young and impatient and impulsive, as many young men are. Though we have a great relationship and i love him to death.

Im already stressed about his adventures. Hes only gone for six weeks. In the news though a couple days ago another fishing boat lost a man overboard. Thankfully it wasnt my kiddo but now im even more stressed and i cant wait for him to get home.

I need a budget CPAP machine

I'm not really happy with my healthcare at the moment and I want to return the CPAP I received from a healthcare provider (Resmed 11) because I'm sick of being monetized by medical companies. I just want to pay cash for something decent that works. Anybody just buy a CPAP outright and use it without involving their healthcare system?

edit--budget is $500-ish.

Skykomish Ranger District--is there staff there?

Just wondering what the general picture is there--are any staff working there? I never see anyone around and the website seems only sporadically updated. Curious if anyone knows. Looking mostly for road statuses up around jack pass.

Thx

edit--SPECIFICALLY looking for the word on how overworked the staff is, if they patrol any of those roads regularly, etc. Usually some offroaders chime in and seem to have a better idea of what the general USFS participation is in any given ranger district. Thx!

Looking for community-Bristol Bay AK area

Looking for ways to keep current via radio in the fishing community of Bristol Bay, AK, Dillingham, Naknek, etc.

Anyone know of regular ham nets or possibly a stream to listen to in that area? I know Anchorage has a few repeaters.

Thanks!

Chickens belong on the FARM, kids

Chickens belong on the FARM. Not your 1/10th acre lot in the middle of town.

Youre drawing in rats and mice and now i have to go buy traps again to keep my cars from getting chewed up and mouse shit in them.

Dont know why its so hard to be considerate of neighbors.

Well, boys, I'm shopping for a new air intake

The rubber coupler at the throttle body is literally crumbling. The whole air intake setup is from Rock It, purchased around 2004. So 22 years old. And that company is out of business.

I found a replacement silicon coupler online so I have that coming. As for the remainder of the parts, I haven't decided yet. Definitely on a budget.

Also, the Jeep is in Lapis Blue. So I've been cleaning up the engine bay trying to get the dirt off that color and bring some life back to her. Just tinkering around. Old guy on vacation here. LOL

Adam James' hidden Facebook posts could be a bombshell

Adam James, of Wenatchee, is running for state rep. He is a pastor at Grace City Church, which is known for its Christian Nationalist leanings, extremism, and intolerance. A gander at his personal Facebook page reveals a stark absence of posts from 2021-2023. Was it sanitized to protect his image? Folks more tech-savvy than me could do some digging and probably find some pretty interesting reading in there. Just throwing this out there.

Maintenance humble brag

These are my front brake pads at 97,000 miles. They are the original set. I forgot to take a picture of the right side, which is why I'd labeled the photo 'left'. But both sides had the same wear. I replaced the front pads and rotors just today because the dealership cranked down my lug nuts too tight and warped my rotors. Had that not happened, I'd still be running this set. The REAR brakes were replaced at 60k and those were definitely at end-of-life. So, it's an interesting insight into pad longevity and gentle driving. Thought I'd share.

Taken the oath of enlistment for the National Guard

Attended his high school graduation ceremony

This morning boarded a plane for King Salmon, AK to join a fishing crew

Good reviews earn servers more hours?

Ihop server today showed us a qr code for a survey and said if we give her a good review her boss will give her more hours. The qr code was jusr a link to Ihop's survey page.

Is this an actual Ihop thing? Or as i suspect just a local manager trying to be clever?

How do you like the greenhorns that come to Bristol Bay?

Just wondering what the scene is for greenhorns that come up. How many of them end up staying for a few years? How many just come and go in one season? Is it a whole thing where captains depend on a certain number of them to fill out the crew? What percentage of them do you think actually succeed and end up being good crew?

Best replacement body undercoat?

Got the classic rust in the floor pan, so after I clean it up and replace with new sheet metal welded in there, I'm gonna want to replace the undercoat. I want the best. How would you go about it? Do body shops do that kind of thing?

I was following a van-style RV down a mountain highway and on every rightward curve liquid would come pouring out of a vent pipe at the rear bottom left. I was worried it was going to get something foul all over my car, but there was no smell. It was a garden hose amount of flow when it happened. What was it?

I dont do rv'ing, so i had no idea.

Thanks!
