Companies with high profit margins portfolio

What do you guys think of buying stocks in a large selection of companies that have high profit margins as opposed to just index funds? Not everything in index funds is highly profitable, so why not narrow it down a bit?

Buying a home or dividends

I did the math and even if I paid off a $200k home fully it would still cost me around $800 a month.
If I keep my money in dividend paying stocks and withdraw 7% yearly that’s roughly $1,100 a month to which I can add a bit more and pay rent for an apartment. I would also not have to worry about home repairs and all the other fees.
Do dividends make more sense than buying a home?

Engine makes humming sound

When the car is in park mode, if I press the accelerate pedal the engine seems to make a smooth sound that climbs in pitch then goes back down on deceleration. It sounds kind of like a hair dryer changing pitch.

Buying a house?

I’m 34 with roughly $140,000 saved up. Would it be wise to put a down payment on a house with that money or just keep investing in index funds and renting which costs about $21,000 yearly?

If you lost your job (high yield div question)

Would you allocate your money to a high yield stock assuming it could cover your monthly expenses?

WMT at these prices?

I’m not too sure what to make of this stock.
200B in assets, 3% profit margin, and a PE of 39. Is it worth buying? Seems overvalued to me even as a defensive play but I’d like to hear what you guys think.

Index investing is great but

I’ll just say upfront that I have all my money in index funds, but my god is it boring. I find stock picking to be so much more fun even if I lose money sometimes. It engages me intellectually. Anyone else feel the same?

Never selling stock?

Is it wise to never sell stock and simply borrow against it while making minimum payments on the loan to avoid realized gains? Let’s assume the loan has a low interest rate, whatever Fidelity or Schwab would offer.

Anyone see angels with wings?

I’m curious if anyone else here has seen a human like figure with wings. I woke to the shadow of one in my room when I was young. Please do share your experiences.

Move on with your life

I’ll just say what’s worked for me. Simply doing the things I want to do. Not researching my fears, or what I can do to get over ocd, or what an effective exposure is. Just simply moving on with my life. The more attention I gave this shit the more important it became. Let the meaningful things become important.

This seemed to really help

So I noticed that I would spend most of my time trying to deny my thoughts or just label them as OCD. I noticed however that what really seemed to help is accepting that they might be legitimate concerns. Why should they be OCD? Why should we label ourselves as having a mental disorder when our brains might be functioning perfectly normal?
Perhaps the real problem here is denial. Labeling yourself as OCD and thinking you’re crazy may just be the issue. Perhaps accepting your fears as something normal may not be so bad after all.

Is AAPL overvalued?

I mean let’s look at it realistically, you’re paying $315 per share of a stock with a PE of 38 and a dividend of 0.34%. Is that really such a great deal regardless of moat?

What do you do when you can’t find any good deals?

For example you fucked up and sold your index funds and now everything is higher than before including individual stocks. Do you buy back in or wait it out?

OCD for 7 months now

I really want to have my life back. It started in January so it’s been about 7 months now. I’ve researched my fears and that gave me some relief but the what ifs just came back stronger each time. I’ve tried not debating it but then my anxiety would spike and I would feel uneasy. Truly feels like hell daily, any advice?
