Fried Green Tomatoes

Milly Alcock as Idgie Threadgood and Alice Englert as Ruth Jamison

Truth be told I was leaning towards Florence Pugh for Idgie because her Thunderbolts look is definitely giving Idgie vibes, but I had my heart set on Alice for Ruth and wanted to choose someone younger for Idgie since there’s a bit more of a gap between the two in the book/movie as well.

I was thinking the other day about how a post-breakup glow up is kind of a cultural staple when you think of romcoms and chick flicks (especially the 2000s), but the only one I can think of for some reason is Legally Blonde. I ran through a few other movies with the “makeover” trope in my head, but none of them really fit (ex. She’s All That and My Big Fat Greek Wedding had the glow ups before they got together, The Princess Diaries was unrelated to relationships at all, etc.).

Does anyone have any other movie suggestions where the main character gets a makeover after a break up?
