Do you think I gave them permission?

BL takes my models down that were already flagged as NSFW, reverses the points, and wants my permission to use a model of mine for an advertising campaign.

Pretty sure my response will get my post taken down.

Side note, I bought a U1 yesterday. After owning a H2D and two A1.

Also I’m posting a screenshot from when I posted the model in this subreddit to prove that it was acceptable.

The BL subreddit took down my post regarding this stating the pic was a rule violation even though they didn’t take down my original post from when I published it.

Anybody buy a printer because of spite?

I’ve been on the fence on which printer to get next. I have almost a grand of Bambu Labs gift cards from the popularity of my models but the U1 checked a lot of boxes for what I needed. BL took down two popular models of mine and also took back the points.

Said “fuck them” and rather than get a new BL printer for free, drove straight to Microcenter and bought a U1.

Set up wasn’t too bad. Just started the first print. I was worried about coming from Bambu Studio to Snorca but so far it’s pretty intuitive.

First print went great! Glad to be part of the team!

Asscaliper has been taken down by Maker World

Not made NSFW but completely taken down and points reversed. Appeal denied. I love how they ignore every point that I make. A caliper holder is somehow more offensive than actual adult toys that are on Maker World.

Looks like I’m no longer posting my models on Maker World going forward.

Edit: Two things:

First, to those saying that this is sexual or because of the name it was taken down. I have another model literally named “Asscaliper” and the only difference is the butt shape but that wasn’t taken down.

Second, I’ve received over 10,000 points for my models after starting about a month and a half ago. It would seem that they’d give someone with such popular models the same fairness as butt plugs but I guess not.

I’m confident that this post does more PR damage than the equivalent points they took away. I gave them the chance to rectify it and they didn’t. I was on the fence to either use my BL gift cards for a printer or buy a U1. I think I know my answer now.

Take me to your feeder

Thought an alien would look cool.

I’ll probably do another that glows in the dark.

If you guys have ideas for squirrel feeders, I’d love to hear them.

Hey Morty, I turned the remote into a pickle!

I’ve been creating some stuff to 3D print and wanted something big so I wouldn’t lose the remote.

I’ll eventually put Rick’s face on it.

How I had Amazon take down models being sold without my permission

On another post several people asked me how I successfully was able to have Amazon take down models being sold without my permission on Amazon. They recommended I make a post about it, so here I am.

Please be mindful that I’ve only done this once, so not an expert. Hopefully this information will be helpful.

Before anyone says it, yes, if you don’t want your models to be sold without your permission, don’t put them online. I’m incredibly grateful that my models have brought joy to hundreds of thousands of people and would absolutely put them on Maker World again if I had the chance.

So, your models are being sold on Amazon, without your permission. What do you do?

The first thing I would do is jot down all of the ASIN that are selling your copyrighted material. Odds are there will be many sellers and it can be difficult tracking them all. I also track what step of the process I am.

From here I message the seller. I’ve had surprising good luck with just messaging the seller, informing them of the copyright violation, telling them they have 24 hours to take it down before you’ll report it to Amazon and potentially face penalties from them. I’ll include a reply of my template that I’ve been using.

After 24 hours, if it’s still not taken down, I send a follow up message that since they haven’t been compliant with my request, I will be moving forward with filing a report with Amazon. Hopefully this will lead them to take down the listing.

If it’s still up, go to http://amazon.com/report/infringement

I’ve done this a couple times it's quite convoluted and honestly I’m not 100% certain of the steps. My apologies if I’m incorrect.

Click on Start a Report.

Here add all of the ISINs that you would like to report, separated by a comma

Answer the questions to the best of your ability.

After hitting submit I received an email from them that they needed more info. This email included a verification code.

This is where things got confusing because they asked me to click on the link that was exactly the same that I just provided. I believe I went to start report again and included the verification code along with the info they inquired. I included a link of my model on Maker World, which is currently exclusive to them.

This step was honestly a confusing headache. It took me a few tries to get the page to accept the info. I actually started an Amazon Seller account in hopes it would make this process easier. I was planning on selling on Amazon anyways but not until they were taken down. I spend an embarrassing amount on Amazon so I was very prepared to return A LOT of merchandise that was within my return window if they kept making it a headache.

A couple days later I received an email that they were taken down and to give them 24 hours. I’ve only checked a couple of the ASIN but it seems like they’ve all been taken down.

It’s the precursor to ManBearPig

They’re so cute when they’re young. Can’t believe it’ll grow up to destroy the world.

It’s half pig, half squirrel

Created a pig squirrel feeder. Pretty happy with the way it came out. Squirrels sure do like it.

Advice for IP, licensing, and selling prints

So a little background.

I recently started designing models and uploading them to Maker World with the goal of helping subsidize what I spend on filament and printers. This was mainly done for better money managing as my wife and I are planning on starting a family.

Well one of my prints has gotten incredibly popular and I’m a little dumbfounded. A lot of people are telling me that I should sell my prints on Amazon. I just sent a cease and desist to an unauthorized seller on Amazon selling my print.

I love this hobby. I have a strong belief that if you start accepting money for a hobby, it then becomes a job, and then loses all fun. I’m also very blessed to have a career with a comfortable salary and don’t want to spend my free time selling prints.

I’ve thought about licensing through Maker World as that would be passive income but from what it sounds like, I shouldn’t expect a lot.

I do hear a lot of stories in the 3D printing community that sell on Amazon and they make it sound like a painless process.

Very recently my best friend lost his job, so I’m also contemplating letting him sell on Amazon and keep all of the profits.

So I’m hoping to get some advice. My wife wants me to sell on Amazon but I’m concerned that it’s going to be a headache and take up my free time.

Lastly, should I register for a copyright?

Thanks in advance

Second edit: You guys have given me some great advice. I’m leaning towards giving it a shot. Worst comes to worst I can always stop if I decide to sell them. Thanks a bunch.
