This is the worst feeling ever.
I figured out a way to maximise the war level/difficulty in Antistasi and dropped in for a little destroy helicopter mission. Nearby, there was a village with a rescue mission that spawned as well. I had a squad of 10 AI and myself. We drop in, clear out the helicopter crash site and destroy it, fend off an enemy wave of reinforcements.
Half my squad gets killed when 3 enemy fighters jets conduct a carpet bombing wave. But the rest are still alive. We hike over to the village, its full of enemy cops and soldiers, like maybe 30 of them. But they can't see it, so I slowly sneak up to the house where the hostage is being held. Just when I'm about to reach the house, we get detected. We get surrounded. I spend the next, what felt like 20 minutes just trying to survive enemy gunfire.
My recon drone detects an enemy tank on the way. I use my trusty airstrike mods (AAS and MDH CAS). They take a minute or two to arrive, but they swoop in and destroy the enemy inbound reinforcements and provide covering strafes while I get two of my guys up (because I don't know where the rest of my squad went down), while taking fire from more hostiles. As I get the guys up, they provide me with cover fire so I can keep healing my squad.
And then an assassination missions spawns on that same village. I call in an artillery strike to absolutely saturate the shit out of the village while storming the house with the hostage, making sure I reload before entering. That was a good call, because the house had an enemy marksman there waiting for me. He did not survive.
I rescue the hostage, call in an evacuation chopper. The artillery hits the village suppressing the hostiles just as the helicopter arrives.
But the helicopter gets hit! It's spinning out of control! I call in a second chopper while luckily does not get hurt. Me, the hostage, and 2 of my guys (out of a total of 10 in my squad) get in and get out.
As we get out, the enemy is sending in at least 6 more vehicles into the village. We got out just in time.
But I forgot to hit record.
