My Favorite Things

Revisiting an older arrangement of mine and expanding on it a little. God what a beautiful song. To me it is, musically speaking at least, a near perfect tune. Equally as inspired by Rogers and Hammerstein as it is by John Coltrane.

Steely Dan - Fire in the Hole

I enjoy arranging piano parts for guitar because it really scratches my itch for wide chord voicings and forces creative solutions to physical limitations. Friend of mine requested it as a challenge and it was fun to play.

Angra - Nova Era Guitar Solo

A masterpiece of a solo from Kiko Loureiro in his pre-Megadeth days. One of the more difficult things I’m capable of playing on the guitar. Unfortunately had to cut out the neoclassical shred at the end because the copyright holders block the video if it’s over a minute long.

For Bonnie Tyler. Total Eclipse of the Heart

Total Eclipse of the Heart. I remember from my youth getting hyped by this song when it would come on soft rock radio in the car because it had an epic sweeping quality to it most other songs didn’t quite have. Later in life when Imogen Heap covered Holding Out For A Hero I was reminded of my affection. Now she’s through a glass darkly and I can only offer tribute. R.I.P. Bonnie.

The Sultans of Swing Solos

Sometimes there’s a good reason why certain pieces of music are over performed. Case in point. If these kinds of licks positively affect multiple generations of musicians then I don’t care how overdone they are. One of the great guitar solos, originally performed by Dire Straits’ Mark Knopfler.

Technical Difficulties Intro

Paul Gilbert is the man.

A buddy let me take his LTD H-301 home to give her a setup and deep clean, so I recorded a little clip with it. I don’t currently have a speedster in my arsenal so I wanted to shred something while I could.

I Can’t Stop Thinking

Can you? Little song idea in 7/4 I developed using the looper. I love that little thing, being able to accompany myself and orchestrate parts. Once again included the broad strokes of the musical thought process.

Feeling Contrapuntal

Even the simplest melody quickly becomes far more difficult when you play it in counterpoint. Your brain has to decide whether to focus on the individual voices or the interactions of their motion. Highly recommend.

Life is but a dream.

Television - See No Evil (dual guitar arrangement) (Saturday cover)

From the masterpiece that is Marquee Moon, one of my favorite guitarist duos across any genre in Tom Verlaine (“a thousand bluebirds screaming” à la Patti Smith) and Richard Lloyd. The guys who both figuratively and literally built the CBGB stage in the early 70s. Here’s my arrangement of both of their parts on this great track with a little vocal melody in there as well.

Jolene

Dolly you are a gem; not waiting for you to pass from us to offer my flowers. This version tries to capture the profound helplessness of the original while also incorporating the influences of the 33 rpm record version as well as the incredibly emotive live White Stripes version. Thanks for checking it out.

Help Me Rhonda Guitar Arrangement

A very meaningful song for me, and also very fun to perform. The reflection in the pick guard is disorienting in the way I imagine a parallel universe probably would be. Hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed playing.

Looping and layering (with thought process)

A little layering and the basic ideas behind them. As always, doing my part to combat against slop. P.S. Sorry about the sound imbalance

Cover of Doctor My Eyes

Crazy that this was his breakout song, my guy matured as a songwriter at a very young age.
