Just opened my laptop. Boom. "Please keep you computer on". Then it restarts and says "Updates are underway". DUDE ITS NOT EVEN CONNECTED TO WIFI! And this repeats twice.
Also I didnt download any new drivers or updates before closing. Makes me wanna switch to linux, sadly tied down by CAD software
Hey gais, so I've been using Linux for a while and have really enjoyed it, now I'm trying to make my family swicth over on our T430s Thinkpad that is running windows 10. I know it shouldn't even play roblox at that age, but its a requirement from my 9yr old brother who is stuborn as hell and the main user of the laptop. Im just wondering, anyone knows how well (or shitty) Sober for Roblox will run on i7-3520m and 16gb of ddr3? I really can't stand it being abused by windows and all, my brother complains its srlly slow yet is so stubborn at the same time.
And if you're saying "Just get a new laptop", I personally do not have the budget right now, while my parents just refuse to get a new one because they see "No point in it" and "Nothing a phone can't do" (We're also quite well off financially if anyone wants to berate me abour money.)

Hi, I just recently acquired a Latitude 3410, and it's my first more modern dell laptop. Today when I booted into live debian iso via a usb stick, there was a very loud "BEEP" sound. Is there anyway to disable that sound, like a quiet boot option like on other dell laptops?
Hi, this is a Acer Chromebook R753TN, the LCD is doing this weird thing with cyan and pink colours. And if you're wondering why I havent gone to the IT dpt of this chromebooks org, the warranty has ran out so we have to fix ourselves. Anyone knows which part is broken? Got the interview email for Mechanical Engineering at SP, and they asked for a portfoilio. I did slides for it, but today I realised: What is the portfolio supposed to look like? Bc my slides are more of a presentation style, not a list. All the email said was:

Like in title, anyone has bought a box of unclaimed parcels before? To like resell or own use or wtv, where do they come from even? I see a couple of listings on them on carousell, and Im kinda curious and maybe try luck with them.
Ok so randomly today, when I turned on my laptop, there was no wifi option in the menu (as shown in image) for some reason. I have a BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY (rev 01), and running lspci it is detected and listed there. I have firmware-b43-installer right now, I have apt autoremove b43-installer and b43legacy-installer and wl and then installed again, but Ithere still isn't a wifi option in the dropdown menu from Network manager, only ethernet. Running lsmod -v I also don't see anything with "broadcom" or "b43"

Debian 13.5 stable
XFCE 4.20
Anyone knows how to fix it? It was still working fine till recently
I have a Dell Inspiron 1440 from 2009, and in taking it apart 1 of the contacts on the power button ribbon cable broke, now it cant turn on. It charges and all, just the power button can't send anything through because of the broken contact. The ribbon cable is a AWM E118077 2896 80C VW-1 4 pin 0.5mm pitch, Im planning to replace it when I can with a 2064. But for now, how can I turn it on? Can I short it or smth?
Hi, I am a sec 4 applying for EAE to Mechanical Engineering (DME) at SP. I know that its a bit late, but I was wondering for the 1000 word write up do we write in point form or in paragraphs? I've heard some polys & schools prefer point form, but I'm not too sure. I more or less know what achievements I want to list down, I'm just want to make sure.

The broadcom chip I have is BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY (rev 01). I've managed to enable Wifi, but I can't seem to enable Bluetooth. I did see this thread on r/debian from a year ago, but the Bluetooth part doesn't work.
Running dmesg | grep -i bluetooth in terminal doesn't work, no results pop up.
Any ideas? I'm still new to Linux, this is my third day running it

Dell Inspiron 1440 from March 2009. Just repasted it yesterday and running Debian 13 with XFCE. Sure, the touchpad is broken and some keys are too, but it still works in most of its glory. Old Dell was something else.

Im running linux Mint(Cinnamon) of a usb boot drive for the first time. I did enable persistance on Rufus so that 96GB is partitioned for Mint. I downloaded FreeCAD, tried to update to newest stable release, but get this error. I tried using apt-cdrom add, but that doesn't work.
I just use some isoproply alcohol and a microfibre cloth, but sometimes it can get smudged by the mircofibre cloth if that makes sense? Its not the most reliable way imo. How do yall clean the elements?
