Massa had overtaken both Alonso and pole-sitter Sebastian Vettel at the start, maintaining the lead until lap 49 when he received a coded message: "Fernando is faster than you." Subsequently, Massa allowed Alonso to pass, leading to Alonso's second win of the season and Ferrari's first 1-2 finish since the 2010 Bahrain Grand Prix. Vettel completed the podium in third place. The incident sparked widespread criticism, resulting in a $100,000 fine for Ferrari for breaching regulations against team orders.

The race had significant implications for the championship standings. Lewis Hamilton finished fourth, extending his lead in the 2010 Drivers' Championship to 14 points over teammate Jenson Button, who finished fifth. Michael Schumacher and Andrea Stella shared one of Formula 1's most successful driver engineer partnerships during Ferrari's golden era. Stella joined Ferrari in 2000 and became Schumacher's performance engineer from 2002 to 2006, working alongside him during the final five years of his record breaking run with the Scuderia.Together, they helped secure five consecutive Formula 1 World Drivers' Championships and five Constructors' Championships and this was filmed at the height of Scuderia Ferrari's golden era, right as Stella was serving as Schumacher’s dedicated performance engineer (a role he held from 2002 to 2006) and in this video Michael introduces him to the camera, saying he is proud to work with him and hopes for another good season. Stella politely explains his job as a vehicle engineer who uses telemetry data to analyze how the car is performing and Michael laughs and jokes to the camera that Stella's eyes are square from working on the computer all day and this was filmed inside the Scuderia Ferrari engineering workshop at the Fiorano Circuit, located in Maranello, Italy

2012 #OnThisDay 22 July, Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso had secured pole with a time of 1:40.621 and maintained his lead throughout at the 2012 German Grand Prix, taking his third win of the season and 30th career victory.

McLaren driver Jenson Button finished second, while Kimi Räikkönen in the Lotus-Renault secured third place. Michael Schumacher recorded the fastest lap of the race on lap 58, his 77th and final fastest lap of his Formula One career.

There was a post-race penalty coming to Sebastian Vettel, who had initially finished second, and received a 20-second penalty for overtaking and gaining an advantage by going off the track on Jenson Button during lap 66. The penalty demoted Vettel to fifth place, promoting Button and Räikkönen to second and third, respectively.

OnThisDay 22 July, Fernando Alonso won the 2007 European Grand Prix at the Nürburgring, narrowing the championship gap to just two points between himself and McLaren teammate Lewis Hamilton. A rainstorm hit the circuit after just one lap, resulting in the extraordinary sight of debutant Markus Winkelhock leading his first F1 race by half a minute in a Spyker. Unfortunately for Winkelhock, the conditions were so severe that the race had to be suspended.

On the restart, Kimi Raikkonen led Felipe Massa and Alonso, but further rainfall and more pit stops shuffled the order, allowing Alonso to win ahead of Massa and Mark Webber in a Red Bull. BBC radio listeners enjoyed the commentary of Murray Walker for the first time since his retirement in 2001.

The race began with Piastri leading into Turn 1 after a three-wide battle with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen. Piastri maintained his lead for much of the race until the second round of pit stops. Norris was brought in first to cover Lewis Hamilton, resulting in Norris emerging ahead of Piastri. Despite several team orders, Norris hesitated to relinquish the lead for several laps. It wasn’t until Lap 68 of 70 that Norris finally allowed Piastri to pass. Piastri secured the win, finishing two seconds ahead of Norris for a McLaren 1-2 finish. Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton secured third place for Mercedes, overcoming his own challenges following a late-race collision with the Red Bull of Verstappen.
