How good is roi for maritime masters with officer license in the US?

Already did a bachelors degree and a post bacc but I’m considering pivoting to this career field possibly however their is no masters like the SUNY program in my state which means that if I did go that route it would be very expensive (100k +) for the program I’m unsure if this is worth it compared to just getting a teaching credential or something. I luckily don’t have debt but was wondering what options their are and if their may be any internationally that are cheaper than the ones in the US that give you the officers license.

Is it fucked up to type your friends who don’t know anything about cognitive functions?

Basically I’ve been the only person in the group that got really into mbti a while back. I know all about functions stacks and everything. I’ve typed the group over time in my head and come to pretty good conclusions for everyone. Besides just knowing the theory, as stereotypical as it sounds I think using the archetypes/characters we most associate with each member as pretty directly connecting with the typings I made for them.

Only problem is since they took 16 personalities, a good amount of them have mistyped themselves pretty badly. We have a clear ISTP who thinks he’s an INTP, an ISTJ thinking he’s an Isfj, and an ESFP thinking he’s an ENFP as well as multiple isfps thinking their infp or Infjs. I don’t know how to tell them they mistyped without seeming like a total dick or a know it all.

How many days a week/hours do you consistently dedicate to recording music?

I feel I can write pretty easily in terms of taking my guitar or keyboard and coming up a progression or writing a structure down but I’m terrible about getting myself on ableton over the week to actually record. Feel like I’ll never drop anything just because I can’t keep a consistent fire of it. I’ll work like 4 days consistent everyday and then 2 days I don’t and the flame dies for it. I want ideas of how hard I should be working for this to happen

Does this path paying as it shows on salary websites?

I see a lot of buzz regarding the pay for this field being extremely good in the US but websites I’m seeing say that OS and AB only make about 30 an hour (60k-70k). I feel a lot of the people on here and people on YouTube say that they get round 500 ish a day or more and are making 6 figures but the data doesn’t seem to align with that online. What are the true salaries you can expect from this career in the US?

Is it lost cause to quit or change minds on a career path after completing a post bacc for it?

22 and considering a lot for my life. Don’t know if my post bacc career is really what I want or worth the graduate school cost (competitive and easy to get in options are expensive). Anyone had similar experiences?

Do you enjoy your half year off?

What do you typically use your rotation off to do? Do you think it’s been a benefit to your life and make the time out at sea worth it for you?

Should I avoid doing pickup games while I suck still?

Kinda a new bike to soccer, played as a kid but haven’t in years have recently gotten into it again. I’ve been practicing with a friend about 3 times a week for the past month and half or so. We found a scrimmage group in the local park to which I’ve gone to few games put on defense. The other day I felt the most strongly like I was being a liability to the team completely as we had only one other defender in the back and multiple times goals were scored for my fault. I felt the vibe the other teammates didn’t want to pass to me or call me out even because of my clearly bad performance. I kept overextending and not knowing how to react in time to the block the ball and just not marking well. Poor passes under pressure too. I don’t know if I should hold off from doing these games but I do find them fun and want to improve but I don’t want to be shunned as being the shitty newbie Guy by people that obviously have played for a long time and know sorta what they’re doing.

Interested in getting into this hobby, any resources for a newbie?

Was wondering if there are any books I can read with different ships throughout history, good websites, or anything I can find communities of people that do this and are into nautical stuff in general. Very amazed by a lot of the great work here, amazing job everyone :D

Sudden burst in interests/motivation. Is this sustainable and what caused this?

I’m 22 a dude who’s probably an Infp 6w5. I think for a lot of my early 20s due to dealing with some personal problems/anxieties/depression I kinda was boxed in sorta when it came to my interests and views of myself and what I could do. I thought I was only an artsy timid type guy but that I was too niche and stuck in my ways etc. I think I have broken out of that version thankfully over the past year and a half. When I was a child I was very curious, very creative, always wanted to explore the world and learn about new things. I think I became more apathetic and boxed in when I got to my teens thinking there was only certain things for me to learn or do and just overthinking things in general.

To cut it short over this past summer I feel I’ve boomed with interests in things now. I got very into soccer with the World Cup which is funny as I come from soccer loving culture/family but never considered myself sporty but I love playing, doing exercise, improving and I love following clubs/teams and the excitement of it all. I’ve been working more on creative projects, considering different jobs I could do for a summer in the future, wanting to adventure more, build replicas, new shows to rewatch or watch, read more books.

All very positive I’d say. I don’t know what prompted all this or how long I can keep it going in my adult life but I think I’ve decided I am most happy what I have new things to learn and develop. Idk if other infps relate or have their own stories of their self development but felt like sharing

Is it lazy to constantly be using certain chord progressions?

I try to mix it up as much as possible and these songs tend to have different bpms Melodie’s structures so it’s not all the same but I’ve realized that when I think of Melodie’s in my head I heavily lean towards 4 - 1 (for example Fmaj7 to Cmaj7) and 4- 3 (Fmaj7 to em7 or Cmaj7 to bm7) as the basis for many Melodie’s. I just like the sound of this progression but I don’t want to be spamming it because than all my music will sound the same. Or is this ok in some situations?

Am I abnormal for graduating college a virgin?

I’m a year out now but I had a lot of friends of both sexes as a dude but I guess I was just to strange of a person and depressed back then. I feel some shame over this a lot, I feel I wasted my youth completed and I’ll never be a normal man who dated and had situations-hips/ relationships in college. You can say it’ll happen in time or that it doesn’t matter but to me it feels it does and I know it’s my own fault but I feel some despair about sometimes especially when discussions regarding sex or relationships comes up.

What are common personality traits of people in this industry?

I know the answer will be it’s a wide mix but I’m just asking generally if there is any overlap. Would you say also that you have made friends in your time in this industry or is it generally not oriented towards having strong interpersonal relationships with coworkers

Trying to figure out my life

22 male

Bachelors in Linguistics (graduated a year early), in a post bacc to become a Speech Language pathologist (would need 2 year masters)

Masters applications coming up this fall but feeling like I might not be ready to go all in. Career is good (good work life, good pay) and related to my major, benefits society and helps people.

But I feel a draw to go abroad one year to teach English in a foreign country I have dual citizenship with. I think this would be a good immersive experience while I’m young, I have a big draw towards traveling.

Parents want me to go straight to the masters because they think I’ll loose steam if I take a gap year and that programs will view me as non committal. They think it’s better I have it so I can make money and then if I decide I need to pivot I do so later.

I want a career to fund my creative passions in music and offer good work life balance. I consider going into academia as a possibility as I am interested in Linguistic research.

Finally this might sound strange but I’ve been considering becoming a merchant mariner as a possible alternate path as I love the ocean and am single and the idea compels me a bit.

Should I buy Ezdrummer or is ableton rack good enough?

I think one of the biggest deterents in my song completion process is drum writing as I feel the ableton drum rack no matter how much I humanize it sounds robotic and also I feel the work flow using the midi takes forever and gets confusing with the auto looping it does and all that stuff.

I’ve been using free Steven slate which works fine to just drop in grooves but I feel it’s also limited in a way and it’s midi rooting is a nightmare to remember compared to abletons.

I see Ezdrummer 3 and though it’s probably not the greatest software from the looks of it the workflow seems very intuitive to get grooves in and the midi seems to be also be really nice on it and designed for organizing songs in structure. The drummer feature also seems really cool. Do you guys think Ezdrummer would be worth it for my needs or do I need to practice more on ableton rack and not spend money?

Also for reference I’m trying to get post punk revival (bloc party, Interpol etc), trip hop, and kinda post rock/krautrock esque drum beats in. I also have a dub song which id love to have any recommendations on good drum tones I can find for that. Thank you and I look forward to any responses.

Should I quit?

23m, been in it for a year. I didn’t really play a huge part in writing much of the music as I was gone for school for much of it which sorta makes it feel like it isn’t my band. The band has trouble finding times to practice with everyone busy but theirs also expectations by the lead singer of us touring and stuff in the future but I have plans to be in school for a bit. Even though I’ve written more stuff I feel really sad to say this but I feel I’m not having fun nor finding my place jamming that much. I really wanted to be part of this band but I feel like love of making music isn’t as they’re here anymore and I don’t know why. The problem is we have so much music and nothing released yet. I feel if I quit, i will have wasted all the work I put in. I also feel like I’m almost alienating myself from my local scene as I wouldn’t be part of it if I wasn’t in the band.

I want to make music of my own which I’m currently writing but I feel it isn’t music people in my scene would appreciate very much as it’s very soft and I live in a very hardcore area. I feel like part of this is also the fact that one of the members of the band who’s my long time friend who got me in has grown apart from me and I feel we don’t have the relationship we had before anymore. Part of quitting also makes me feel I’ll be viewed as the bitter loser if I quit, especially the and gets big or is better without me but I know that idea should sway me

I think something is up with app

I can’t use the word for some reason in the title but I’ve had had my hinge account for like 8 months. I’ve gone through periods of getting a lot of matches and then getting none and have also gone through times I didn’t use the app for a while but now it’s been a month and I’ve gotten nothing, like not a single match.

Maybe I’m ugly or my profile sucks but on tinder and bumble I have an issue where I’ll get a few likes but they will never show up for me or it’s someone 10 years older than me (I’m 22) and not a good match. I feel like I’m completely invisible basically and like I’m futile basically. I guess I gotta work harder in person
