Happy birthday to the amazing Audra McDonald!🎊

Happy birthday to the amazing Audra McDonald!🎊

It's incredible that she's the most awarded and nominated actor in Tony history but even crazier that she won her third Tony when she was only 27 years old.

Found this wonderful homage which is a compilation of all her wins. It's really cool to see how the Tony's have changed over the years across so many ceremonies.

Elderly woman thought the hospital was "whites only"

I was getting an MRI yesterday and after I checked in, the nurse took me to this area that had a couple chairs, lockers, and a changing room so that I could get into a hospital gown and store my belongings away.

When I came out, an elderly woman who was waiting made this shocked face and told her daughter, "I thought this place was whites only". I was so taken aback and didn't even know how to react. Somehow I felt ashamed and said "oh, sorry". Her daughter gave kind of a regretful look or at least that's how I interpreted it but she didn't speak a word; just took her mom into the room.

I should've simply ignored her, there was no need for me to say anything and least of all apologize. I couldn't think of anything else during my hour long scan which only made me more miserable because an MRI is already like being stuck in a coffin.

I'm honestly more upset that my immediate reaction was to apologize. For what was I saying sorry?

I later realized that she probably had dementia but it didn't occur to me in the moment because it was a brief interaction. I'm in my 20s and I don't know anyone with dementia so it's not something I think about. I wanted to share my experience and learning here in case anyone else has been subjected to such wild remarks by elderly people. Apparently, dementia patients say all kinds of BIZARRE stuff that's racist, sexist, and just generally bigoted. It's so weird to be on the receiving end and my heart goes out to people who've probably experienced something way worse than this.

What's your FAVORITE cover by a theater star? Like they completely owned it.

I don't like the original but I absolutely love Zegler's version of "Fame is a Gun" and how Broadway coded it is. I'm also a sucker for "Baby One More Time" from &Juliet it just hits different...

Is babysitting common in your country?

When I was a kid, my parents would leave me home alone and it was never an issue. Even when I was 7, I remember I would come back from school and just hang out until my parents got home from work. None of my friends ever had babysitters either. I only knew about babysitting from watching American movies and shows. I honestly thought it was some kind of joke in American media until I grew older. It would've made more sense to me if parents were asking other adults to watch their kids and not teenagers because they're children too?

I live in America now and my friends who have kids will complain about how they want to leave the house for just an hour or two but can't because they couldn't find a sitter. But their kids are like 12 years old so I don't really understand what's wrong with letting them be home alone for a bit because they'll probably just watch TV or play games...

If you grew up elsewhere, was it the norm to hire people to watch you when your parents weren't home? I wonder after what age it's considered acceptable to leave kids alone at home where you're from?

P.S. I of course agree that children need supervision up until a certain age for safety reasons, especially toddlers. I used to go to a daycare until I was 6.

Does anyone know what happened to the Ragtime reunion concert from 2023?

I was so excited to see Audra and Brian together again. Also, Kelli O'Hara as Mother! I feel like Audra and her compliment each other really well.

The last news I can find is 2024 and even then it mentioned that it was cancelled last minute twice. It was clearly recorded professionally for a TV release so I don't know why it's been 3 years and this is nowhere to be found.
