Tinley park: Are they going to start this concert or not?
Well?
One person won't stop talking
Usually, it's a car trip with my mother-in-law and 1-2 other people. We all love her dearly, but she won't stop just talking. It's about her friend from church choir and their medical issues. It's reading every sign on the road and saying "oh, that's interesting." No matter what she says, it's not something that there's really a response to, other than "oh." So, no one responds, and she keeps talking because the silence is uncomfortable to her. "Oh, look, 'Here Comes The Bride' bridal salon, that's a really clever name for a bridal salon." NO IT REALLY ISN'T, MOM.
When she rambles like this, I sometimes wait for her to stop, then I count the seconds until she starts again, and it's rare that I make it to 10.
She's also a very concrete sort of thinker and she doesn't really understand sarcasm, so she can't really participate when the rest of us get snarky about something... and then when sometimes one person in the car / room has a specific thing to tell someone else that's not her, she HAS to know what it was, and then ask for details, when all we wanted to do was pass a little info along quickly to someone else during one of her pauses for breath.
Gah! I told my own teens that if I ever get like that, they need to tell me I'm babbling and they would prefer a little quiet once in a while.
Thanks. All that said, she's a kind soul and one day we'll miss the rambling on when she's gone. :(
Many
What is the town of Many, LA like? I saw it on a map and thought "what a quirky name."
Setting vs. Arrangement
One of my pet peeves on here is the word "arrangement" being used to mean "setting."
"Who can help me find this choral arrangement of Ave Maria?"
Arrangements are based off of previously existing music. You don't arrange a text. You set a text. If there had only ever been one Ave Maria melody, and all other versions were based off of it, then fine, you could have an "arrangement" of Ave Maria. Or, if you had already specified "I know it's the Schubert, but I don't know which Hal Leonard staff writer cranked out this SAB adaptation." (Spoiler: It was Russ Robinson. It's always Russ Robinson.)
Sorry for the rant, but I believe this problem starts with high school teachers and other directors either not knowing the difference or not explaining the difference to their choir students. Maybe I should post in r/choir instead, but it would get lost among the "listen to my voice and explain why didn't I make it into chamber chior [sic] this year?" posts.
Is our rear differential off kilter?
2016 Subaru Legacy with AWD. Backing up out of a driveway , the rear tire went over a curb barrier and settled on the other side of it... hanging over the ditch. So, the weight of the car probably was on the axle/suspension.
Driver went about 1/4 mile on that, complained of "grinding and scraping sound" and thankfully stopped driving.
Here's a view from behind. I feel like the differential shouldn't be angled like that.
Puddles Pity Party song at Weird Al concert
Hey all. We just saw the Chicago concert last weekend. Does anyone remember what song Puddles sang that had a video of "unsatisfying" images in the background? Like a cake being cut into uneven pieces, or wine glasses falling to the ground but never smashing?
Bandsaw... Time for a new throat plate, right?
My last saw blade just broke... So I replaced it. Looks like it's time for a new throat plate as well, right?
Just typing more stuff here to get 200 character minimum.
Variations on the Chicago style hot dog
Here's my Chi-sconsin dog. It has shredded Cheddar cheese added.
(I was out of pickle slices and poppy seed type buns. I also subbed in green onion instead of chopped regular onion.)
What are your favorite variations on the Chicago dawg?
EDIT: Picture added in comments.
First time, had fun, but...
Went Sunday with my 20 year old metal fan son. Had a great time.
Took me most of the day to figure out that "Demons Behind Me" was not a band.
[TOMT] [CARTOON] Probably early 1980s cartoon where a character gets powers and tells someone to "bug off" and the person turns into a human sized bug
Old style Scooby Doo type animation. I feel like the guy that gets turned into a bug is sitting behind a desk reading the newspaper.
Slow
Appreciation post for the use of microtonal tuning in "Slow."
Apparently it uses a scale where the octave is divided into 19 equal intervals instead of 12. Wild!
