First time ever grilling

Went for some basic burgers and dogs for my first time, they turned out great. I grew up with my stepdad grilling a lot, but I’ve never owned a grill in my adult life. I’m staying somewhere right now that has a grill so I thought I’d give it a shot. Mission success.

Do stations normally close prior to the last train arriving?

I don’t often take the metro late at night, but last night I attended an event and needed to take the last train. I checked the last train time on the WMATA website, made sure that I was looking at the weekday time rather than weekend, and arrived at the station about 8 minutes prior to that time just to find the station entrance already locked. At that time, I also checked the “next train” feature to confirm that the last train had indeed not arrived yet.

Is this normal? There was no station manager or any WMATA employee in sight, so there was nothing I could do. It was very frustrating to have to spend money on an uber when I should’ve been able to take the train. Was I uninformed, or did somebody screw up?

What about people on the last train who would’ve needed to get off at that station? Would they have just been locked in? This was a very confusing experience.

This was Waterfront station. I took the attached picture while on my way back up the escalator after realizing that I wasn’t going to be able to get in.

Crème brûlée

The Pembroke in Washington DC. Possibly the best crème brûlée I’ve ever had. Smooth, creamy, rich, full of fresh vanilla bean, the sugar crust was perfect. I couldn’t ask for anything better.

Too many people don’t understand the difference between an accent and a dialect.

A dialect is a variation in speech and pronunciation within a language. An accent is the coloration of one language on another. More people need to understand this.

If both of your parents worked full time, what did you do during summers as a kid?

My mom was a teacher, so she was always home with my siblings and I during summer break and never needed to worry about childcare. I never had the experience of my parents needing to figure out what to do with me while they worked. I'm curious about all the various things that parents do to keep their kids safe and occupied when they can't watch them, from leaving them at grandparents' houses to summer camp and everything else.

Tonight’s dinner made by me and my partner - pulled chicken breast tossed in sugar free BBQ sauce, charred corn, massaged kale with an apple cider vinegar dressing, and pickled onions. Added some hot sauce to the chicken after taking the picture.

Everything is homemade.
