Gear recommendations?

Been diving recreationally for years but finally got round to getting my advanced open water and wreck qualifications and now plan on working towards dive master.

Thinking I should start to invest in some of my own gear rather than relying on shops to provide everything (as I travel all over the world to dive and the quality of rental gear varies massively!)

What would the pros here recommend as worth the investment (allowing that I’ll have to pack it and fly with it)?
