WTF is up with Google TV ads?

Some of these commercials are so bad it almost makes me want to switch back to Roku! (Kidding ... nothing would make me go back!)

Maybe because I live in New Mexico, but I just watched 4 GECU commercials back to back in one ad break, and all 4 were in Spanish. They do the same thing with Allstate ads, but those are in English ... are they short of advertisers?

Question about bringing my car to the UK

This is an off the wall question, but I currently live in the US (but I'm originally from the UK) and I'm considering moving back - and a thought has crossed my tiny mind ... I can ship my US suv in a container from the US to the UK for around $5000, and by using a container, I can load up the suv with all the possessions that will fit (and because it's in a container, it's allowed and secure).

So, this post is really intended for ONLY those who have moved to the UK WITH a vehicle.

My questions (I have several) are:

1 - if I do this, what do I have to do once the vehicle arrives in the UK? Does it need UK plates before I can drive it immediately, or is there a grace period where I can continue to drive with US plates?

2 - does it need any modifications in order to make it street legal in the UK?

3 - Insurance. Obviously I need it, but how do I get UK insurance in time to pick up the vehicle at the docks and drive it home?

There is probably more, and I am still only considering this as an option. I might just pack up what I can and have it shipped by another method and then buy a car there, but (feel free to call me crazy) I would really like having my Ford Expedition Limited over in Yorkshire 😂😂

Moving to Hull

I am looking at flats and homes for rent in the Hull area and I keep seeing several listings for Rosedale Gardens. From the photos, the places look nice and well maintained.

Can anyone tell me if this is a good area, or if there's a hidden reason the rents there are as low as they are?

Sorry, Rosedale Mansions, not Gardens.

EDIT: Wow, thanks for all the responses, didn't expect so many so quickly. I will take a look at Rosedale, but now with an eye on the neighborhood. I'm not 100% sold on Hull, but I'd like to base myself somewhere near a decent size city and I have family in Pocklington, York and Filey, so those are the areas I'm searching - not so much York, since it seems to be significantly more expensive, but I do like the coast, so if anyone can suggest anything from Easington up to Whitby, that would be the ideal location.

Warning: Home Chef

NOT A READY MEAL COMPANY!

Couple of things I need to rant about - first off, you don't get to see any of the meal options until AFTER you've handed over all your information including payment method. Second, EVEN IF YOU CANCEL immediately, you still get charged for the first order.

Ok, so I'm not happy about that, cancelled immediately and even told them why - most of the meals are high in sodium, and the prices (after the intro order) are not cheap, averaging around $13 per meal if you avoid the premium choices. I'm also VERY unhappy about the fact that every meal comes in separate bags, the instructions are pretty complex, and require a lot of additional steps and additional things they don't include (some minor like pepper or cooking oil).

I consider a ready meal something that is already put together and you just stick it in the oven or in the microwave for xx minutes, this is full blown cooking.

Returning to the UK from the US

I am planning a move back to the UK (Yorkshire specifically) from the US. I am retired and get social security AND a New York state pension, which I will continue to get when I move.

My 2 main questions are: How do I rent a place to live (preferably furnished to keep initial moving costs down), and how do I start to build credit there? (My US credit score is on the 800's, I assume I would be starting from zero after the move).

2018 Limited is starting to get noisy

My 2018 Expedition Limited (which has an extended warranty) has started making a whining noise most noticeable at around 40mph when I take my foot off the gas. The oil change place I take it to say they believe it's timing chains but suggested I try Lucas Oil next oil change to see if that helps. Mileage is currently at 85k.

Have any of you gone through this and if so, what was the solution and cost?

Edited to add picture and mileage.

Thoughts on Tovala

I just cancelled my account with Tovala after buying the 6 weeks of meals, (required to get the free oven). These are my thoughts/opinions.

Could have been significantly cheaper for what you get (around $100 a week for 6 meals).

Packaging is horrible ... all the ingredients packaged separately in plastic, 2 or more foil baking tins per meal. Doesn't seem environmentally friendly.

Meals seem very hit or miss in terms of quality.

Extreme lack of vegetables.

Some meals could easily be created at home for way less money (one example: Meatballs w mashed potatoes, and that is literally IT, no other ingredients).

The barcode scanner on the oven seems hit or miss - I've had several occasions where I had to rescan multiple times to get it to read.

Pros: Convenient, easy prep.

Anyone here have Tovala and still happy with them?
