Portland... or Europe?

I'm wanting to buy my first ever Lady Dior. I want it brand new (not resale). I live in California.

Would it be cheaper for me to drive to Portland to get the bag (Im assuming I can order a style i want and pick it up at the Dior in Nordstrom there?) And do 0 sales tax? Any catches to this?

Or, is it still cheaper in Europe? I heard theyre priced differently. I'll be in Milan in September. Should i wait to buy a bag that I like in the Dior store there (assuming I cant order ahead to Italy lol) and do the VAT refund?

Pro luxury shoppers.... this is my first time considering buying a luxury bag. Please let me know which option has the best savings route (or if you have another method I didnt think of).

Fake scammers or real police threatening us at gunpoint outside spice bazaar

Fyi this just happened to us, This evening, around 7:30pm. And I'm not looking for anything with this post except to simply report and perhaps warn others.

Some instanbul simps r probably gonna find every excuse they can for this and downvote this post but idgaf, this really just happened, we are traumatized, and if this warns and helps anyone then that's a plus.

And, up until tonight, we've been having a good time and today was our last full day in instanbul. And the day ended with two scams... first, a restaurant tried to scam us, which wasn't something I couldn't overcome, but just bad luck as it immediately led to....

My partner and I being held at gunpoint outside the spice bazaar, by two men claiming to be turkish police, demanding our passports via gunpoint.

Tldr: this was absolutely insane and we ran away after verbally confronting them for a few minutes, and everything in my mind was screaming "scammer". They were threatening other random tourists too, demanding for passports and more.

The long story:

So we were standing at a taxi waiting spot waiting for our bitaski and suddenly were accosted by two dudes who gave major red flag energy and threatened us with guns and told us they were police and we had to comply "or else". I immediately knew this was something fake, there's no way police would treat random people just chilling for a car like this?? Fyi my man is a tall white man, so people in this sub saying it's racial profiling against darker skin might also find this interesting. We are both in our 30s. I'm an asian woman. We both had on some designer items, some shopping bags, and I don't think we look "suspicious" in any way outside of being obvious tourists.

They grabbed my partner and were telling him via Google translate that they want to verify "if we have the right to leave turkey" - we were just waiting for a taxi back to our hotel so this doesn't even make sense, it's not like we're at the airport? And right from the start, they were angry, intimidating and rude. They literally grabbed my partner's arm from behind, pulled him around while we were just standing, and the first police guy was just shouting at us aggressively, PASSPORT, GIVE PASSPORT.

They flashed their guns at me in their holster when I started screaming, scammer!! You're fake!! And pulling my partner away

This was in a very public area outside of the spice bazaar, near the back of a mosque, where a ton of taksis are parked.

They were also grabbing other white girls, an asian man, and another white European man as well, and forcibly threatening everyone for wallets and passports while flashing their guns in the holsters (whether real or not, i have no idea). There are a lot of people in the square, but they were all just watching from a distance.

I read other threads on this, and noticed that everyone who insists this is real police - your real police actually act crazy like this then? Is that really what you want to claim? Accosting tourists randomly on the street, threatening them with guns?? They also refused to answer us when we asked why they wanted to take our passports, just kept saying via google translate, test us and you'll find out. I kept asking, for what? Why are you demanding our wallets and passports? And the man just kept saying, I'm police, you sure you want to test me? (Via Google translate) and then thats when he pulled out his gun and held up his gun at us.

This gave me so many red flags. So I googled "fake police scam" on the spot, saw its a REAL thing according to Google, and that they take ur passports and wallets to steal your identity and copy cards. I grabbed my guy immediately (luckily I was still holding all our passports after refusing to hand it to the two men) and screamed again, scammers!!!! Into the square and pulled him away.

The two men just stared and let us leave after I did that.

Thats 100% scammer behavior. Real police would actually try to arrest me, no? Scammers let you go once you catch onto them and make a public scene about it.

Honestly in that moment I only had sheer adrenaline. I knew we had to get out. I didn't know if the gun was real or not but I sure wasn't getting into their van, which they were trying to usher us into by gunpoint (and in fear, we had initially taken a few steps to the van as soon as they held their gun up at us. But luckily the asian man in that moment also started making a fuss and while the two "police" were distracted yelling back at him, that's when I googled and saw the scam warning, read about people being driven off in these vans, and i decided that even with guns present I was going to not get in the car. If I'm going to die in Turkey it might as well be in the open, outside the spice bazaar, instead of being shipped off to who knows where and having who knows what done to us.

And yes, they had a red and white van, which I'm told by hotel staff that it is official, but no way did these people act like real cops?? The two men had no badges they showed us, wore light baby blue "polizei" uniforms, had a real looking gun, holster, and walkie talkies and handcuffs on their belts that looked incredibly cheap.

And inb4 anyone tries to gaslight me and somehow imply we deserved it, all we did today was join pre-paid tour groups of the topkapi palace and two mosques, learned some Turkish words, enjoyed Turkish food, shopped at the spice bazaar, and were on our way to the hotel. We did nothing "wrong" or "entitled". This is in fact my 2nd time in instanbul and the first time was so nice hence why I came back. (After this time... I'm not sure if i ever will come back. We have traveled to many countries and never had such a scary experience).

Imo, if they're real police they shouldn't act like this, threatening, intimidating, without justification or explanation- and they wouldn't let us run away screaming that theyre scammers.

I legitimately feared for my life in that moment because even though I'm from shitty America with all the gun violence, this was the first time in my 3 decades of being alive that someone actually pointed a gun at me and threatened me with it. It was traumatizing and I dont care if anyone wants to tell me otherwise, but if you have insights to share then sure, I'm curious.

And if this helps anyone else, good.

Edit: fyi, this was written for the Istanbul sub. But for some reason I'm not allowed to post this in r/istanbul so here I am.

Munich airport TA Airlines questions

A little backstory:

I'm planning a flight from London heathrow to muc airport, via British airways. Arrival time of plane is 11:45 am.

I'm trying to catch my next leg of my journey- Turkish Airlines long haul flight, from MUC to LAX. The plane departs at 2:55 pm (14:55). This is CONFIRMED. ist layover.

We are US citizens so I imagine I have to go through customs at MUC upon landing from Heathrow, grab baggage claim (have 2 checked bags each for 2 Travellers total), then check in our luggage again for Turkish, go through security again...

So i have a couple of questions.

  1. Is this realistic? Can we do it? If you know MUC airport, (i dont know MUC airport so idk how big it is and how far I will be from Turkish terminal) Does BA and Turkish have specific terminals they will be sure to use? Is 3 hours ish enough time for me to realistically board my TA flight after getting off the BA flight?

Any advice and insight from travel savvy ppl of MUC AIRPORT Is greatly appreciated.

Also, I'm flying Business on both flights, so would i even have time to squeeze in the business lounge at MUC before my TA flight? Or naw lol 😆

  1. If I have to arrive the night before instead to not miss my TA flight, can I stay in the TA business lounge all night at MUC until the 255 pm flight lol?

  2. Alternatively, I'm K business class for TA airlines. Can I 100% safely utilize the flat tire rule? Lets say BA has 40 minutes delay leaving Heathrow, and I get to Munich too late to board TA in time at 255, but I'm still there by like 330 pm at the gate and tell them why I'm late (got off another plane). Will TA rebook me on another flight later that day from MUC to IST? Will that mess up my seat reservation and flight leg from IST to LAX? Also I have 3 nights stopover being utilized upon arrival at IST. Will this affect or cancel my stopover if I arrive a few hours later with a flat tire flight? Are there addtl fees to pay for flat tire flight? Is flat tire rebooking guaranteed if there are flights from MUC to ist later with 2 seats left? Do I lose my business tickets class if i am rebooked?

Sorry many questions....

Any other insight or tips or warnings about how TA will handle a business k flight class missing the first leg of the trip? Would love to be informed fully in advance so I can make the right return flight decision from Heathrow to muc.

Some notes: this is two separate bookings! Not the same ticket. I assume i must exit to pick up my bags and re-enter again. I'm asking with this considered - is MUC gonna be doable and walkable for me in 3 hours?

Why this craziness? Its cuz I have roundtrip LAX to MUC, via TA, ist layovers already booked long ago. Then from muc I have decided to hop to London for a few days so I'm booking BA for it. But I must return to MUC to use my original TA roundtrip return lol.

Luckily not flying immediately from IST; I'm doing the IST stopover 3 free nights program with Turkish, so its actually very chill AS long as Munich works out... (ist is like a 70 hour layover)

▲ 9 r/gamingchairs+2 crossposts

Just bought this chair 3 days ago after reading like 5 top articles on Google raving this is the best possible chair for gaming. Cnet, techradar....you're all being paid to lie.

I wanted a cool new chair so I thought fuck it, time to splurge on a cool "best gaming chair" on the market. 3 days later, I realized I'm essentially being scammed out of $650.

Let's start with deets:

Bought the Secretlab TITAN Evo - Regular - SoftWeave™ Plus Fabric (0107)

Soda Purple color.

I'll start with the good:

- fast shipping. I got the order by 12 pm on the 3rd day after I ordered (shipped to me in less than 72 hrs).

- the look. The soda purple looks like the pics and is very pretty to look at. My boyfriend came home and was like "wow nice chair". Definitely gets attention and compliments. (UNTIL YOU SIT IN IT).

- since there's no other plus, I'll throw them a bone: the packaging is great! Really cool box, nicely laid out packaging, clean sealing around seat cushions, and really ups the excitement factor as you unbox.

Cons:

- the whole fucking chair

Please watch this guy for a detailed explanation: https://youtu.be/9tNUQ-cVJrY?si=2YudID70ARlDP6fT

I wish I had watched this BEFORE I bought it 3 days ago. He ain't lying.

The chair is HARD AF. I expected clouds for 650. The fuck is this almost wooden feeling? The seat should feel like the free pillow, very soft and nice. (The free pillow is another plus and probably the only actually good thing about sitting on this chair).

Levers are all clunky, unintuitive, loud and awkward, like you would expect on a $50 chair. Wtf?

The lumbar adjustments knobs are a joke. You barely notice anything changing. They're hard to turn. I wanted real smooth ergonomic fluid movement, like a massage chair can deliver. Nope. This adjustment thing is pretty much nonexistent.

My old office chair from Amazon for $135 is more comfortable, ergonomic, and softer than this. It's also durable af (had that chair since 2020 and it still looks new). I game on that chair for 10 hours at a time occasionally and had 0 back issues. I SHOULD HAVE JUST STAYED HAPPY WITH THAT CHAIR AND NEVER LOOKED ASTRAY.

The trusty Amazon chair is ugly, yes, and plain. But she works!!!

Secretlabs chair is like putting makeup over a wooden stool. It's pretty, yes, but it doesnt work!!!!

So don't buy it!! Every positive review is in SL's pocket. There is no way someone who has sat on an actual good chair before will sit on this $650 joke and still claim its the best chair on earth without being paid to do so.

I also didnt read return policy before buying, because I'm used to 100% of all retailers i buy from accepting a return if I'm not happy with it with shipping covered or capped at $9.99.

Apparently secretlabs wants you to keep their trash because they know they will have a million returns of their trash if they allowed free returns.

Apparently it will cost $100+ to return this stupid chair. That's insane. I have returned $2000+ mattresses and couches and other expensive items before for FREE RETURN SHIPPING, which is how an honest company would operate. Selling an expensive chair and then stating we pay heavy item shipping to return at our own expense is quite literally the first time I've heard of such an egregious practice before, and I shop online every week!!!

So now I'm stuck with a stupid chair no one is going to be able to use. I will be damned if I pay willingly $100+ to return an item and support this malicious practice.

PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DONT BUY ONE. stop letting this scam company get away with misleading us. Buy that 5 star Amazon chair instead you were considering as an alternative.

Edit: this warning is maybe for the girlies based on comments. If you're shorter/smaller/feminine shaped idk, you might have a similar experience to me where the chair just does NOT seem to fit your body shape and make you comfortable. Ig a lot of taller/bigger guys like it, if so cool, but I'm a girl reviewing this for 1. Other girls in my shape and size, and 2. For people who like soft furniture and chairs like me. This is not soft at all!! So this is my warning for people who have preferences like mine. Also if you're a chick that loves the chair genuinely and you're not being paid to say it, that's cool too! But doesn't take away from the fact that people looking for a soft ergonomic chair will not want this, or if they have a build like mine - they might not like it too! 🫡

Question for frequent flyers of Turkish - this is my first time. I booked econ from LAx > Munich on TA, and then business from Munich back to LAX, because for some reason business was going to be 6.8k going to Munich but only 2.3k going back to LA.

My curiosity is, if biz seats are still available closer to the flight date, will it become cheaper than the current 6.8k price? Or will the price to change from econ to biz stay the same? If prices do go down, how soon before the flight should i start checking? (24, 48 hrs?) And if I'm able to upgrade to business for cheaper closer to the departure date, do i call with credit card to pay or do I do it at the check in counter in LAX the day of the flight with credit card? Or is it only possible if I have miles and smiles already (which i don't?)

Any tips, tricks etc for how upgrading from econ to biz works (for cheaper than current 6.8k price) is appreciated!!
