Taking a distribution from 529 - questions

My husband passed a few years ago and I have had a HELL of a time getting a small 529 at Edward Jones moved over to myself as the owner. My son was always the beneficiary.

Now it only has about $5400 in it. I can log in online and see the money but I cant initiate a withdrawal online. I wanted to take out the costs for his college laptop + iPad for school and I paid his $500 deposit earlier this month. The total for this would be about $2839. I messaged the advisor (who is someone special that takes care of estate accounts) and I received a reply that I need to initiate a withdraw with a verbal consent. OK....

Now since this is such a pain can I just withdraw the entire amount now and use the remaining money (~$2561) to pay his tuition when the bill comes due in August? I hate to have to call these people and do this song and dance again in a couple of months.

Lenovo Thinkpad for college laptop? 14"?

My son is starting college in the fall. We are trying to figure out what laptop to get for him. He's going to be a business student. The recommend a windows laptop with an Intel Ultra 7 processor, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, and FHD Graphics or better.

We were looking at this Lenovo Thinkpad at Costco. https://www.costco.com/p/-/lenovo-thinkpad-t14s-g6-14-touchscreen-laptop-core-ultra-7-255u-processor-32gb-ram-1tb-ssd-windows-11-pro-wi-fi-7/4000424260?langId=-1

I'd prefer to get something thats a little nicer and wont need to be replaced in a year or 2.

He already has a gaming desktop. he thinks 14" screen will be fine since thats what he has now and its easier to carry around.

WDYT?

Noticeable decline between 11-12 years old?

My english lab is going to be 12 this summer. I've had her since she was 8 weeks old. She looks great for her age and the vet thinks so too and i've had multiple people who meet her be surprised when I tell them she is almost 12.

Anyways, I got a puppy last year (another english lab and her 1/2 great nephew). And in the past year it feels like she has gotten much older. She doesnt always want to walk (we just go 1/3 mile around the block, 2-3x a day). Sometimes she lays down, but if i drop her leash she immediate gets up, puts the leash in her mouth and follows me. So its hard to tell if she is just tired, or if she's trying to get me to give her a treat or what? If I take her for a long walk at the park, so will be off-leash and walk the entire time and not stop. So it seems like she may just be sick of her leash?

She was recently put on 75mg of Carprofen 2x a day (as-needed). I feel like its helping her.

My new puppy is now 17 months old, weighs 80 pounds and likes to bother her by humping her, and instigating wrestling matches, etc...She's too nice to really put him in his place. She does bark at him and make "leave me alone" noises. I usually try to interfere so he will leave her be.

Also she recently got diagnosed with a soft-tissue sarcoma on her front leg. I had it removed and the vet said they got clean margins.

Anyways, just seeing whats "normal". Its hard to tell if she's in pain because like I said she walks just fine when she's not leashed and keeps up. But when going around the block on a leash she often stops moving or lays down. Sometimes I am unsure if I should leave her at home and only walk the younger dog. Because she seems sad to not go? but at the same time if she is laying down, maybe she isnt wanting to walk? Also I sometimes bring treats and I've noticed when i go bring treats she lays down more and its like she does it purposely so that I will give her a treat to get her to move. lol.

She still runs when she sees something she wants to get, like a cat or a squirrel. I would say i usually go around the block about 4x a day but I bring her maybe 50%-75% of the time.

Just hoping to hear from others and how much walking they do with their older dogs.

My late husbands aunt died and the funeral was 3 weeks ago. I was unable to attend because of timing and it was out of state and I didnt have pet-care lined up. I absolutely would have gone if it were local. Anyways, I have cards for her children and I want to write a nice note. Do I mention not being able to attend? or just say I am sorry for their loss and that their mom will be missed?

First off, I am 48f and widowed for over 3 years now. I made some online dating profiles to see whats out there and I have chatted with a few guys here and there. Nothing leads anywhere and its kind of a relief because if i have to be honest I am nervous about meeting strangers for a date. I did it a few times in my teens (not for dates but just online friends) and it was always so awkward. The more i think about it I really cant see myself warming up to the idea. I feel like there is alot of pressure to like the person and be attracted to them and I really cant tell that until i meet people and I dont want the pressure of having to decide that on a blind date when we both KNOW the reason we are there. I know this is a ME problem...i'm kind of shy and introverted to start with. I know that there's a good chance that if i cant get over this online dating thing I might never meet someone too. Any tips on that? OTOH its not lost on me that if you meet someone ASAP maybe the pressure to like them is not really there as much as if you drag the texting on and on.

Ok, on to my other issue - I matched with someone last week who was also widowed. I asked him how long ago his wife died - it was less than 5 months ago! That seems way too soon for me. Now he's talking about meeting in person and I just dont want to right now. its kind of giving me the ick that he just lost his wife so recently. Other things are that he seems like a church-goer, and I am not. Luckily we live like 200 miles away from each other. So how do i say i dont want to and be nice about it?
