Incomplete WIPs: To post or to not post?

Hey everyone, so I’m an inconsistent fic writer. And my hyperfixations jump around lol.

So I have a couple WIPs sitting in my drive that I’m not sure I’ll get back to. Some have like 20 chapters, and others have like three.

I wanted to know if it would be fair to readers to just post them. To get them out there for anyone who might stumble upon and appreciate them as they are. I’ve found stories that were last updated in say 2015 and the writer came back to complete them in like 2023. (An example is Avatar Distorted Reality)

I used to post as I wrote, but lately I’ve been trying to complete then post. This has led to me not posting at all in a while.

So I wanted to ask your thoughts or even writers in similar positions to me.

How do you handle swearing in your fics?

Hey everyone! New Star Wars writer here. I was wondering how yall handle swearing in your stories. Like wookiepedia has a long list of in universe swears and insults. However sometimes I write a scene and cringe at the word Kriff.

Do y’all eventually get used to it? Or are non Star Wars swears generally welcome in fics?

What to read next after shatterpoint?

Hello everyone. Recently got into reading Star Wars books.

I started with the living force (loved it) and then just got done with Shatterpoint.

I’m enjoying the prequel era content ngl and I like learning about Mace Windu and the other Jedi.

I’m curious at to what books you would recommend me.
I hear there’s the glass abyss which is another Windu book so that sounds fun.

Then I hear if the ROTS novelization. Apparently it’s very good.

Though I feel I might need to rewatch the prequels first. Then I imagine I’d need to read the other prequel novelizations as well. I hope they are good.

I also got my hands on the Dark Disciple Novel. So that ones waiting to be read too.

What recommendations do you have?

How do yall indicate timeskips in your stories?

I’m working on a Star Wars fanfic and the first couple chapters occurred over a period of four years.

Currently I leave the timeskips to be stated in the narrative.

E.g “It had been over a year since he joined…”

Though I’ve read some official content and other fanfics that sort of have them directly stated.

E.g

CORUSCANT
1 years later

I find myself debating on whether or not to switch to the second format, but I’m getting the feeling it might come off as Lazy or something.

So I wanted to hear how yall generally go about this.

Advice on writing a crackfic/comedy focusing on a normally professional group of characters?

So I’m dipping my toes into humor by working on a crack/comedy fic. The subjects are a cast of very important people who regularly convene for meetings. Each chapter takes place at a different disconnected meeting and the intention is to have something funny/stupid happen. However I’m not sure how to handle this without making anyone seem out of character.

Looking for advice on approaching this topic

This novel was exactly the story I needed.

I’d been craving a story that put the Jedi Council members at the forefront without shifting attention to Anakin or the others because I wanted to learn more about their characters and see them have some development.

Then I randomly came across this story on a Reddit thread. And after reading the synopsis I knew I had to jump on.

SPOILERS FROM THIS POINT ON

I never would’ve thought I’d see Mace Windu being protective over his former padawan Depa. My guy was talking about attachments meanwhile the actions he took to save her were very much fueled by his attachments to hers. I like seeing a side of him that isn’t “Skywalker No!” “The Council this!” “The Republic bla” I liked just seeing him as a Jedi worried about someone close to him.

Yarael Poof was actually a bit of a jokester. I read his dialog with the Robot Chicken voice in mind so that was amusing lol. Pairing him with Ki Adi Mundi was an interesting choice. He’s more interesting than id thought. I’d assumed he was just Windu but a different species and less motherfuckery.

My beloved Plo Koon was good to see. I didn’t realize others might be afraid of his appearance despite his heart of gold. The Clone Wars really had everyone love the guy. Pairing him with Saesee Tiin was a good choice. I never knew much about the guy other than he was a good pilot. Turns out he’s just a dude who’d rather spend hours working on ships and just so happens to be on the Council(he didn’t even think he was supposed to be on the council). Would’ve been cool to see him and Anakin geeking out together lol. A bit of a meanie but overall a good guy.

I also liked seeing Yoda and Yaddle in action and fighting together. Would like to see them together on screen. Adi Galia raised some interesting points about the Council. Who they truly served. Was it the people? The republic or the order.

Even Piell taking on and rehabilitating a bunch of kids was great. I never really paid much attention to his character in TCW but he was actually a cool guy.

Eeth Koth… My Man.

And Dogface Oppo Rancisis was there too!

That said, even though they were pretty diverse in their personalities they all were truly compassionate and caring people. Even if it was to varying degrees. They all showed why they are Jedi in the first place. And I liked that. Obviously at this point they weren’t in Jedi General Mode and were still just peacekeepers. Hell the republic didn’t even have an army at that point, but I liked to see them for the Jedi they were.

Also, watching Palpatine pre emperor is always interesting. The guy obviously hints at his evil but everyone kind of just doesn’t notice. And we got a Maul Cameo too!

TLDR: that was some good shit and would definitely recommend.

Also.

Fucking Syfo Dias struck again lol.

I found it satisfying to see Mace Windu dealing with his own attachments

I’m in the middle of reading my first Star Wars novel. The Living Force. And I came across this exchange between Mace Windu and Depa Billaba. I hope it’s not too long.

Depa asked for the image to be paused. "That's it," she said, pointing to
the single card Zilastra had pulled from the deck. "The Idiot."
Mace raised an eyebrow. "The sabacc card?"
"Yes, she apparently reserves it for Jedi that she kills."
Mace's eyes widened.
She knew the look. "What is it, Master?"
Mace looked grave. "When the Jedi Knights discovered Xaran Raal's
body, he had a sabace card on his person."
"On his person?"
The elder Jedi exhaled. "Stuffed in his mouth."
That was news to Depa. "That wasn't in the report you gave me. How is
it you're only telling me now?"
Mace looked to Baylo and his crew-and decided to take the conversation to a more private place. He led Depa to an alcove. "I didn't tell you," he said in lower tones, "because I thought it would trouble you."
"Trouble me?"
"You seemed deflated after learning of his death. And I was concerned it would send you off on an odyssey to find his killer. That was not your responsibility. I had already dispatched other Jedi for that."
"Who came up empty." Her trademark cool slipping, Depa scowled.
"Did you tell them about the card?"
"Of course."

Depa's head swam. "Mace, what did you think you were doing?" Her former mentor seemed taken aback. "I had always taught you to avoid attachments—and you did an admirable job. You did it so well it impacted your choices when you became a master. You had the chance to take Xaran as a Padawan and chose to tutor him instead."
"I could help more students that way, instead of only the one. What of it?"
"I saw you two interact. I believe you made that choice because you feared what would happen if he were your Padawan. If he was lost on a mission_"
"T'd have mourned him. Just as I did in reality."
"And in reality, you took a mission that brought you out here, pursuing those who killed him." Mace raised his hands deferentially. "I know, you told us that you were only seeking to learn more about the region and its gangs"
"I admit it. I did care. I won't deny that it motivated me in part."
"And that is the part I feared." Mace stared at her. "Depa, your ascension to the Jedi Council is one of the proudest moments of my career. I would not see you lose effectiveness by falling prey to feelings you once handled easily."
She stared at him-and then looked back at the frozen image of her and Zilastra together. Depa's composure was shaken. She spoke sharply to him.
"I haven't been your Padawan for a long time. I am a member of the Jedi Council-and I keep my own counsel when it comes to what I care about.
My decision making was not compromised."
"And what of the girl?"
"The girl?"

"Kylah Lohmata," Mace said. "You aren't going to the celebration on Kwenn, because you expect to continue searching for her."
"Of course. I promised to save her: We promised to save her." Mace nodded. "I tried to—"
"And I'm the whole reason she's in danger at all. She begged us not to let her be taken away. I owe her. Even if I didn't already owe her my life, I owe her."
"I know." He clasped his hands. "And we're doing everything we can to find her. But that's not our only responsibility. Kwenn is important to the whole region. The larger picture"
"The larger picture called for you to bombard the Riftwalker base, not
come in looking for me. But you did." Seeing her eyes, he went silent.
Depa clasped her hands together. "Mace, we do counsel against connections-to ensure Jedi will not do harm to preserve them. But if we truly think that allowing even one innocent to suffer to stop another harm is the will of the Force-then perhaps we do not understand it at all." Her words hung in the air between them.

For those who haven’t read it. Basically Depa was going undercover in her home region and was later discovered. And imprisoned. This takes place After she’s been rescued.

While the Clone Wars did give us more Windu and showed that even he can be wrong and accept it, I like that this book has humanized him way better than TCW ever did. Admittedly he’s not in General Mode in this story and doesn’t seem to be as Republic Devoted from what I’ve read. It’s still nice to see that even he isn’t just the super hardass stoic Council Member who’s just there to tell people off. Even he has a deep care for those around him, despite how he might carry himself.

Looking for advice on how to approach building my first setup.

Hello everyone. So o recently got a. Job that puts me in a better financial position to actually start building my setup. Currently I’m working towards getting a new laptop and one of those standing desks. To me a setup is just a computer and one or two monitors, however I see all these fancy monitor stands and gadgets and I’ve also been seeing those light things at the top of monitors too.

I wanted to ask for advice on how to approach building my first setup. Currently the only things on my mind are getting a mouse, keyboard and a decent monitor after my laptop and desk

Would a ‘charity’ organization be allowed during the galactic era?

IMPERIAL* ERA NOT GALACTIC

So I’m planning a fic where one of the main characters was rescued by an organization dedicated to helping people in all sorts of need. Regardless of whether or not the empire was the cause of problems. But given that it takes place during the imperial era, it’ll be mostly cleaning up the empire’s messes however they can.

Generally the organization avoids conflict especially with the empire.

Now I’m still pretty new to the greater star wars lore. I was a casual fan up until recently I’ve decided to dip my toes into writing fanfic. I just wanted to be sure an organization like this would be left alone by the empire. Or it would be seen as another rebel faction.

One of my favorite team ups in the show

I absolutely loved the chaos these three got into. Having Anakin and Obi Wan who can’t help but be sarcastic with each other and throwing Dooku into the mix was hilarious. This show loved having the cast fire shots at each other.

My favorite moment was easily:

“Anakin”

“What?”

“Control your insolence. The Count is concentrating.”

Kenobi was one of my favorite parts of the show.

Wouldn’t have minded another hero/villain team up like this.

Just an old man with his two grand-padawans mlol.

Which brand of wireless earbuds would be good for music and gaming?

Hey there everyone, I’m considering getting a pair of wireless earbuds. I intend to mainly use them for listening to music or gaming on my computer so sound quality and battery life are key to me.

So on one hand I’m thinking of grabbing the AirPod 4,l because I’m using an iPhone, buy JBLs have always been something I’m curious about. I like the speakers so I’m interested in the buds. I also know that Sony makes great audio devices.

What advice would you give?

Looking for fics where Palpatine is successfully arrested by the council

I’m looking for fics where Windu successfully manages to arrest Palpatine and the Jedi take over the Senate. I’m curious to see how that plays out. Whether the Jedi eventually follow democracy and allow the Senate to elect a new leader, or they instead find themselves the leaders of the republic instead.

Now that I think about it, the concept of a Jedi Empire sounds terrifying lol.

Thanks to the folks on here who recommended I watch Ahsoka

I recently finished rebels and didn’t know what to watch. I came here and a huge sentiment was that the Ahsoka was basically rebels season 5.

SPOILERS BELOW!

I assumed it meant we’d get a few cameos from folks like Sabine and Hera, but I didn’t expect them to be so heavily present. I thought Hera would dip out after the first episode but she’s pretty present and active throughout the season. She’s even getting in trouble with the new republic. My guess is that she’ll focus on the political sides of the story while the others focus on Jedi/force stuff. My man chopper was pretty present too! Although he seems to have become more of a babysitter these days. Guess being responsible for kids does that lol.

And Hera’s son is there too!

And then we actually get to see Ezra lol. I expected it would take another season for us to actually get to him, but the show managed to bring him back and send him home (at the expense of Ahsoka and Sabine of course)

And let’s talk about Sabine. Never in a million years would I have guessed she would end up training to be a Jedi. I knew she would be in the show, but I didn’t realize how much had gone on in between the shows. I also didnt know just anyone could start training in the force. I thought it was only the force sensitive kids.

And well I’m hyped to see Ahsoka again! Just as I loved her in clone wars and was excited to see her again in rebels. This show is exactly what I was hoping her presence in rebels would’ve been personally. I like learning more about her!

I also really love the tension she has with Sabine. I hate that what could’ve been its own show has been relegated to comments and conversations without a single flashback at the very least. That said, I like to see these two characters try to make it work despite their own differences. I hope to see them eventually grow close.

Also there’s something about Ashoka’s actress I really like. Idk if it’s her smile or what lol.

Anyways, thanks for recommending. I also watched Maul and that shit was peak too! Didn’t realize the same inquisitor would make an appearance in Ahsoka as well. And now that I think about it, both of the inquisitors that appeared in Maul were defeated by Ahsoka.

What to watch next from here?

Just got done with Rebels and I will say I didn’t realize how much I’d enjoy it and even love the cast. I’ve been watching the animated series lately.

I started with The Clone Wars, then Bad Batch, and now got done with rebels.

I’m tempted to rewatch the prequel and Original Trilogies to see where things connect. But after that I’m not sure where to go.

I saw Rogue one apparently connects with Rebels as the Ghost and Chopper make appearances. But I also hear Ahsoka takes place after the Rebels Epilogue. Then there’s Also Obi Wan to check out and Andor is a show I hear so much about.

Then there’s the new Maul show I’m not sure where it fits in the storyline.

I wanted to ask if anyone could share with me a guide on how to watch. I have watched Mandolorians S1-3 (not yet the movie) but I haven’t watched Book of Boba Fett.

Looking for a fic that focuses on the Jedi’s daily lives

Recently watched the clone wars, the bad batch and in the middle of rebels and became curious to see if there were fics that centered around the Jedi of the prequel/Clone Wars Era. Like ranging from Anakin and Obi Wan to the guys on the council like Windu, Shaak Ti and Plo Koon.

Like what they go through in a daily basis and their relationships with the other Jedi and or more, their views on certain decisions the council make, any behind the scenes drama going on.

I find myself curious about the Jedi and what they have going on in their lives.

I can’t believe it’s happening!

I remember having finished GTA 5 for the first time at 13 and thinking what a great game. But then I also kinda said to myself “It would be cool to play as a girl in the next GTA game”

And now here we are! It’s freaking happening. We’re getting one and I’m so psyched. I can’t wait to see what type of character Lucia is. And if Arthur Morgan is anything to go by, it’s that Rockstar knows how to write complex characters. And I’d love to see Lucia have a journey that’s memorable. If she can piss me off or melt my heart then that’s perfect lol.

And Jason too, he looks cool.

Is Rumi winning this matchup?

I wanna go with Obi Wan, but I don’t think he’s as durable as Rumi is. And I’m not sure how well the force would do against the girls. So I’m leaning towards Rumi.

But I stand to be corrected!

Finding out Rumi also does this stance lowkey makes me hc Zoey talked to Rumi about Star Wars once and now she’s kinda obsessed lol.

Just got done with the show and what a ride!

For the longest time, the clone wars has been on my backlog of things to watch and I finally did it. I watched all 7 seasons of the show and well… it’s been a ride.

I think my favorite part about watching this is the amount of context the story gives to the characters (both old and new) and the world. I initially had just watched the trilogies and played the Lego Games, so everything I knew about the cast was limited to that!

I loved seeing Anakin’s journey throughout the story. His highs and lows. Seeing him going from doing his best to uphold(or appear to uphold) all Jedi Values to seeing him force choke on a whim. I loved seeing his relationship with his mentor Kenobi and mentee Ashoka. I loved the banter they shared with each other and it was always nice to see everyone so happy. So… Alive! I loved getting to know pre-Vader Anakin.

I knew of Ahsoka mostly in name and because of the short memories I had of her when I watched TCW as a kid(plus her appearance on the mandalorian). But to actually see her start out and grow into a full fledged warrior was amazing. I didn’t expect her to walk away from the order, but she did (and I couldn’t blame her). But I’d be lying if I wasn’t happy to see her reunited with her mentors. The 501st tribute to her brought tears to my eyes. It was amazing to watch her journey

Speaking of the clones! They were my biggest surprise coming into the series. My past experience with them was mostly as either background grunts or enemies in the games. But there’s Rex, Cody, the Domino squad, the 501st… this show manages to flesh them out into real lovable characters. I like how much was put into making sure the clones felt like individuals. Like fuck, I knew Order 66 was coming, but this is when it actually hurt to see the men I grew fond of just turn like that! Fives tried to tell those geezers, but it was a canon event unfortunately.

The bad batch were an interesting bunch even though their arc kind of felt like a “go watch our show to see more of these guys” I’ll probably have to check it out.

Finally the Jedi order. I learned more names than I thought I would lol. At least now when I rewatch, it won’t just be a bunch of random Jedi getting murdered. These would be characters I know better. Shout out to Plo. He was my favorite Jedi after Obi Wan. It was interesting seeing the council getting spotlight in a way to show it as not the shining beacon of light they’re supposed to be.

The frustrating part about all of this was knowing Palpatine’s true nature and watching the cast not know anything. I rolled my eyes every time that frog appeared on screen lol. I will admit that I did enjoy seeing him handle the Maul and Savage. I love seeing displays of power like that and the Jedi weren’t scratching that itch for me lol.

The show had its high moments which really went high! But some of the arcs I didn’t enjoy as much like the younglings one. The young Wookie was adorable though lol but now I realize he’s dead and I’m sad now.

Honestly I’m not sure where to go from here lol. Idk if any of the shows will hit the same, but I suppose all good things come to an end. Is it rebels or bad batch I should jump into next I wonder. Ah well, at least there’s no shortage of Star Wars content. Still, this has been my favorite timeline in the story so far.

Oh well. Onto the next! May the force be with you!
