Any sites like eloshapes that we can use to judge mouse wheel stiffness?

The existence of comparison databases like eloshapes is a blessing if you're looking for mice – they helped me to find suitable alternatives more than once.

But the thing that I'm missing in there is an indicator as to how stiff the mouse wheel actually is... This is often only revealed the moment you actually unpack a mouse.

As stiffness is not defined by the encoder itself but rather by the wheel mount, one cannot simply expect another mouse with the same encoder to behave the same way.

With the increasing push for high-quality components "heavier" mouse wheels seem to become the norm in models like Endgame OP1 V2 or Razer Cobra (which effectively is a Viper Mini V2).

Most gamers don't seem to mind, but if you're a dev and have to scroll through code files the whole day, this just isn't tolerable.

So, do we have a database with indicators for scroll wheel resistance somewhere? Or are there any other indicators one can use to judge the resistance in advance (scroll wheel steps, manufacturer, common encoder-mount combinations, etc.)

Endgame OP1 V2 - how to put silicone oil on the scroll wheel properly?

As expected, the OP1 V2 has one of the highest-friction scroll wheels of all mice I tried - besides though, it's perfect for me.

Now I've seen a few people who put krytox or silicone oil on their wheels to make them go smoother... Before I actually destroy warranty by opening up the mouse though, I would like to know where I have to put this and how I should ideally apply the lubricant.

Do I need to put a drop on the encoder?

Or is resistance actually determined by the frame holding the wheel?

Designing a mouse

I want a mouse that is light like the x2 crazy light, ergo or...

...

...we remember that, right?

Well... no, I certainly don't want to go down the same path. Designing, printing will repeat in an endless loop, and the end-result is going to become a lot more expensive than what is currently on the market.

But does anyone have any insight into how shapes that are as complex as the ones of modern gaming mice are CADed?

I already get headaches while imagining how to 'design' something three-dimensional in SketchUp that's not based on a angular or oval layout, but a mouse is likely one of the most complex shapes you can come up with.

So... how is this usually done in practice?

I'd imagine you design several 2D "layers" bottom-top, and then let CAD interpolate the shape changes between the layers?

Or are you basing off your design on an oval / rectangular shape, and then just move / nudge edges / dull out areas, until you sort of get to the weird shape of a vertical or an MMO mouse?

Do you think there's any way Angels Punishment would work out as piano-solo arrangement?

...as in, did you ever hear a piano arrangement to a similar growling-focused track that actually sounded decent?

Just for fun I've been trying a few things, and I believe it *might* be doable if you get the beat right (e.g. smash a bunch of quaver-fifths in the right rhythm), and then just play plain intervals (no triads) in violin clef for the voice.

I've never done something like this before though, and I halfway expect the result to sound like a hot mess if I listen to it by next week lol

OP1 / OP V2 mouse wheel resistance

It's impossible to find reviews on that since apparently no-one cares, but I'm highly sensitive towards it lol

How would you rate mouse wheel resistance on the OP1 / OP1 V2?

Does it require significant strength to rotate (for reference, as it is for the Orochi V2 / Keychron M3 / G203), or is it as buttery smooth as the wheel on the Viper Mini / VXE R1 / Rival 3?

So, in Angels Punishment XX we hear news broadcasts about the Corona Virus. The track itself is about being freed from someone's lies. Scabbia herself was not an anti-vaxxer. ...what was the point of including these broadcasts at the beginning of the track, then?

For reference, there appears to be a public statement by her back when she got vaccinated:

https://blabbermouth.net/news/lacuna-coils-cristina-scabbia-on-getting-covid-19-vaccine-i-trust-in-science-doctors-and-nurses

So... what was the point of including that message in their re-recording, then?

Everyone probably still remembers Bergamo and how hard Italy has been hit by the pandemic in general, but did they have a problem with public broadcasters supporting conspiracy theories / urging everyone to avoid vaccination of any kind?

Because that's the impression I get from the track in this context lol

Like... why not include news broadcasts about the Trump administration from back then? Wouldn't these have been a more suitable target than what I feel are random Italian news stations?

Ferro's growling on XX grew on me, but out of all tracks I still consider Comalies itself the only one that actually improved from the additional dramaturgy

Rival 3 sensor issues on Roccat Sense Pro

I've been testing a Rival 3 today, and noticed the sensor is apparently not capable enough to be used on an ultra-smooth Roccat Sense Pro deskmat... The cursor was randomly lagging and jumping around on screen.

As soon as I placed the mouse on the table itself this behaviour stopped, so it must have had something to do with the deskmat.

Is the Rival 3 known to be picky about the surface?

I'm somewhat surprised tbh, as I never had any issues with all Logitech and Razer mice I tried before, and even extremely budget Cherry mice work just fine with the Roccat... I would rather not want to replace it, since I'm using two mice (left/right hand alternately) and still need it for my ergonomic mouse in order to kill its (heavier) friction.

Did you encounter similar issues with your mousepad / table surface?

If so, what low-friction mousepads are recommendable for the Rival 3?

Anyone who has an explanation as to why Superstition (and by extension Hide and Seek) worked out so well, in contrast to what came after?

Regarding these two albums it pretty much doesn't matter what track you listen to – they're all awesome. There are just no bad tracks on them, and all of them seem to simply *work*.

Nothing falls out, everything fits into scheme.

Now if I listen to anything on Under your Spell to Fascination I very well still hear this old talent, but the tracks are much more disjointed. The contrast between an absolute banger and something that could be played in an elevator as background ambience is much bigger.

And generally, the tracks feel much less "dense" and way calmer.

This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but is there any explanation as to how it came Hide and Seek and Superstition became these two enormous flagships amongst their releases?

Like...

- did they just rip off other tracks, that have been proven to work? (in my experience this is the most common reason for such "banger-albums")

- Did they hire a particular producer, who shaped the sound?

- Or is it actually true (at least) Superstition has been "co-produced" with fan-inputs? (samples, lyrics, melodies, synth-effects, etc.)

I believe the one thing we can be sure of is that they intentionally picked a more poppy / hip-hop style drum rhythm and added A LOT of reverb and delay effects to their guitars / effects. These albums no longer sound as raw as Walking with Strangers or Pins and Needles.

What genre does this style classify as in your mind? Is it mainly new wave / dark wave? Is it shoegaze? Is it industrial rock? (I don't really know what classifies as industrial, but if Superstition (the track) doesn't sound like an industrial soundscape then idk what would lol)

Just asking about this since we can perhaps draw the line at the genre as well... But technically all these descriptions still match their last four albums too, so this is probably not a good criterion.

But really, I feel *something* significant must have happened back then... The very reason they never came back to that dense soundscape tells me they weren't capable of producing it out of their own accord from the get go.

There must have been some kind of external input... right?

I find it kind of sad TBM dropped in quality so much post-Superstition... Today (ironically on my birthday) I was reminded of just how good they once were. I miss these crazy-talented weirdos from back in the day so much <3

What is hands-down the most melodic metal band you've ever heard of?

Not sure if they really qualify as "metal", but if they do my suggestion would be The Birthday Massacre (from Walking with Strangers up to Superstition; potentially not counting the latter two in the span... stuff like "The Other Side" would be a top contender though).

Is Swamped somehow stitched together by random lines, and lacks meaning overall?

I love their track, but each time I listen to it I fail to grasp what it actually is supposed to be about.

It certainly seems to be about fear of your destiny, sure...

But what is the "shame" Cristina sings about that's supposed to be gone? Shame for leaving behind what was expected from you perhaps?

Idk...

Any ideas / personal interpretations?

Anyone who can judge mouse wheel resistance on these mice compared to Razer Viper Mini?

Is mouse wheel resistance on any of these mice as buttery smooth as it is on the RVM?

ATK X3

VXE R1 S

SteelSeries Rival 3

Pulsar Xlite V3 Mini

Corsair Katar Pro XT

I'm trying to find an extremely lightweight mouse in a similar shape, since it's the only one my left hand seems to get along with for some reason... Just to have a cheaper alternative to the RVM, in case Razer ever abandons it or my RVM breaks.

Mouse wheel resistance and weight seem to be the critical factors for my arm... Anything heavier that requires more force to turn the wheel causes instant muscle strain after a few minutes ;(

(for reference: I'm using the RVM as secondary left-hand mouse at work, not for gaming)

Would be great if someone can compare and could provide a bit of insight here.

Thanks!

How does opponent matching work like in your club?

Might be a dumb question, but do you just go in with some friends and play with them all the time, or do you casually ask random other club members whether or not they're up for a match?

Or is there a more sophisticated system in place that classifies everyone by their experience level?

I also keep seeing people even here on this sub that are searching for match opponents, which makes me wonder if these aren't needed by some clubs before you can join them...?

Do I train any part of my fitness significantly with badminton?

I've been considering to start badminton – probably more as main reason than in part – to save up on costs for a gym.

Now... I don't expect it to be a good training for arm muscles ofc. But is there any significant impact on the rest of my body?

I'm joining what's allegedly a "mixed" badminton club here in Germany – they claim they have everything from total beginners to experienced competitive players. Even if true, I'd still assume to play against equally bad beginners as I am at first, so there's probably not a lot of "competitive gameplay" happening in the first few months.

My question now is just:

Will it even be exhausting / demanding at all?

If possible I'll try to play against actually experienced pros to avoid doing matches that end up "too easy" for me, but I'm not sure how often I'll have the opportunity for this.

If I end up being "matched" against other newbies, will I then benefit from doing this sport as fitness training at all?

I just pulled an instrumental to the original Comalies via UVC, and the results work absurdly good as standalone lol

I've always felt the original album was just in need of a good remaster, not necessarily of a re-recording... By now though I feel all they really had to do was to release an instrumental of it.

Here's an instrumental to the Heaven's a lie track I could find on on YouTube - it's from XX, but it should still give you a quite good impression how my UVC rip of the original sounds like right now:

How is badminton-club culture in your country?

Like... Is it beginner friendly enough for late starters, or does everyone expect you to already have picked up everything back in your childhood?

And generally, how welcome friendly are these lol

I've gotten to know several people that happened to be in sports clubs over the years, and while they were all great guys (for the most part at least), they certainly all were fairly conservative and rather of the "yeah, I understand your point perfectly after like 2 seconds of explaining" attitude, after which they become locked into their personal viewpoint, not allowing for any sort of objective discussion anymore.

Like: "Yeah, you absolutely have to do the smash like this and that, that's how it's properly done", and if you ask other, more experienced guys, you'll hear a completely different explanation. Yet if you go back to the guy you initially talked to, he'll just insist he was right all along unless you do an extended reasoning lol

I've had my fair share of those encounters, and am somewhat worried "know-it-all" culture will be similar amongst badminton players as well... Stuff like this really makes any sort of productive learning / training difficult.
