What if in a Cold War continued scenario that G11 got limit adopted by NATO, and continue to be improved and mordenised in the 21st Century?

Credit for pictures:

https://x.com/mgecko117/status/1732084866689466799?s=46

In this scenario the Berlin Wall never fell in 1989 (somehow), and the Bundeswehr starts to procure 1,000+ G11 for limited use just as planned in early 1990. Initially they are used by Fallschirmjäger, Gebirgsjäger and KSK in limited numbers, in the late 1990s the US had shown interest in G11 and it had been used by SOCOM and possibly 101st Airborne, and saw actions on differnt regional conflicts. It might saw wider equipment to regular forces but I kind of doubt it.

Would G11 in this scenario be more successful than IRL, and saw further development and modification by HK all the way into 21st Century, to resolve some of its problems as well as modernising it? How would it be modernised?

How would it affect other future weapon programs like ACR, OICW or LSAT? Would HK then focusing fully on the G11, or they will still push out HKM4/416, or even having XM8 at the same time?

What's the deal with the recent movie called "citizen vigilante"?

Youtube algorithm had throw several clips at me of this movie like this

https://youtu.be/JoxIpNYicbY

Idk what this movie is about, From some titles of the clips feels kind of like an alt-right/sovcit power fantasy action movie with racist contexts? But the comments are filled with stuffs like Germany banning this movie proving this being accurate/right etc, what happened? Is the movie being blatantly pro-Nazi and therefore being banned by Germany, which attracts a lot of neo-Nazi audience online?

Dont know if it is lore inconsistency or more of an irony

According to the Deserter he went AWOL just at the start of the bombing in '08, basically, he bailed out at the first sign of attack and ran away, and this is also considering that he was the comissar who was supposed to inspire his men's spirit with communism.

For him the war was already lost on the day of the bombings, but for the Commune itself it didnt work that way. According to Joyce, the war continued for two years until the ultraliberalists surrendered in '10, and this also didnt count the "city wars" in the '10-'20s which was said there were some insurgencies across the city, presumably communist uprisings.

Dros didnt attend any of that. It would be understandable that he didnt tried to contact outsiders decades after the war, but from '08 to arguably '20 the communists were still actively fighting. He didnt tried to contact or aid any of his presumed comrades but rather stayed on the island watching them being crushed for years. His obsession with communism seems to be more of a coping mechanism of him refuse to even believe there were still active pockets of resistance than himself.

The *Original* Guillaume Bevy is probably based on David Simon, the author and screenwriter of Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets and The Wire

During the ending when you talk with Jean about his alias, he would say that the original Guillaume Bevy is a reporter who joined the homicide team, well received by the detectives, but ultimately left due to Harry's disorienting mental health. Many good detectives left the Precinct as well.

David Simon has been a Baltimore reporter who embedded with the BPD Homicide Squad for one year, sort of being integrated with the detectives there. He also left BPD amid of massive leadership shift due to political climates. Many homicide detectives that he worked with were also transferred or resigned after the leadership change. The leader of the homicide squad was also a lieutenant.

After his experience David Simon completed his book which was known as Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets, then he made his way into television and helped to produce the TV series version of the book. In the wake of 21st Century, he worked with HBO to produce a brand new series, The Wire.

The Wire was also cited by Kuvitz as one of the inspiration for the game, and I wont be surprised that he had read Homicide as well. In an interview and ingame it was.mentioned that the culture of RCM is heavily based on American/Mesque cop shows, which i do think The Wire and Homicide had the most similar vibe with the culture of Precinct 41.

The closest canon ending of DXHR would be destroying Pancrea, BUT the continuation into DXMD feels like a huge irony to such choice

Short version:

Adam in Destroying Panchaea ending: Adam didnt send any message, he want the humanity to decide for themselves. He has faith that humanity will eventually do what is best, and that none should stand in humanity's way

The Humanity: Being dumb as fuck and swallow the Illuminati propaganda like hot cream, blaming everything on Augs and building a technically global Apartheid system

Longer version:

I know that the devs had expressed that either ending can work into DXMD, but the dev at one point also said that they would prefer the Destroying Pancrea ending (shortened as DPE):

> "Mary, the narrative director, will tell you that all endings are canon because the truth is buried and nobody really knows what truly happened that day in Panchaea. But when we were developing the endings, we felt that Jensen would choose to sink the facility, thus avoiding broadcasting perverted versions of the truth to the world. At least that was the original state of mind."

> Jean-François Dugas, "Behind the Scenes: Developer Interviews" section of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided - Limited Edition Guide (and eGuide)

Either way, the current canon of DXMD is closest to Adam's intention in DPE: no messages were sent, Panchaea was destroyed and bury everything underneath it. Whether it was Adam's intention or not, humanity has to decide for themselves about their fate and what should they do with the Aug Incident.

IF that was Adam's faith into humanity that they can decide for themselves, then obviously they had failed him miserably as we see in DXMD. The public just blindly followed the narrative pushed by the Illuminati and blaming everything on Augs. To an extent Augs had become a whole group under discrimination from society or arguably under Apartheid pushed by most of the countries. This had brought massive social struggle and continuous terrorism while higher classes can still profit from the chaos.

This shows that in DXMD's story, humanity CANNOT, or dont have the ability/wisdom to decide on its own. They will always look for a general narrative with a scapegoat without critical thinkings. They are sliding into a worse status while the people responsible for the state are still untouched. In short, most people are always dumb as fuck.

This becomes a stark contrast to the meaning of the DPE, where Adam continued to state that he believe in humanity can make their own decisions. As a result, regardless you chose DPE or not, humanity is regardless forced to make a decision and the made one of the worse decisions they can. That's the complete opposite to what DPE monologue want to convey to the players that almost seems that Adam's monologue in DPE sounds like an irony.

I dont think showing that humanity do not have the ability to decide was the intention of devs when they wrote the ending of DXHR, but in DXMD they've conveyed a complete different message and makes me wondering what do they feel about the topic.

Edit: typo

What if the Eastern bloc and socialist Afghan survived and the Afghan civil war never happened? Where will Bin Laden go? How would the GWOT (if there will be one) be different than irl?

Well this is part of a bigger setting of what if the Warsaw Pact somehow survived into 2010 and the butterfly effect caused both socialist Afghan and South Yemen to survive (barely, under heavy Soviet aid). In this case there's no way Bin Laden and AQ can find a stronger foothold in Afghan with the help of Taliban, and he have to stay in Sudan until being expelled in the 90s. Both sides of the Iron Curtain view Mujaheddin as terrorist threats so they may reluctantly cooperate if a major terrorist threat emerged.

Where would AQ's next stronghold in that case and how would it affect Islamic terrorism in late 90s to 00s? Would they attempt a coup in Sudan or Yemen, or even try to overthrow Saudi? Would 9/11 still happen and US invade another country because of that, or would Bojinka plan somehow succeed in 90s and changed the whole dynamic of GWOT?

"Tolkien spent a lot of time describing trees" - where exactly are them?

There's often some saying that Tolkien spent many pages describing about trees. Although it's over exaggerated but it definitely makes me appreciate him more since i fucking love trees. What exactly are the chapters are the people referring to, when they talk about writing trees and forests? Im sure the chapters on Old Forests and Ents are the most obvious example, but what else chapters in the Legendarium do you think best portraited Tolkien's love for nature very well?

I do think one of the achievements Tolkien did was, for someone who created the modern concept of fantasy adventure parties, he managed to make not one, but four party members enjoyable and relatable while not giving them immense powers

The fellowship was like the origin of modern concept of "adventure parties", further popularized by fantasies like DnD and Isekai/DQ. However, for modern DnD and isekai adventure stories, people often expect ALL party members to be competent in power, even if you are not a character with fighting powers, you should at least has healing powers or being an excellent bard who can somehow add buffs to the party members. Also, they should all agree to participate in battles.

Tolkien however didnt do that in his stories. 4/9 of the members in the fellowship are hobbits, one being a humanised McGuffin (at a first glance, not in core), other three being his close friends/servant, that's all. They only fight while absolutely necessary and they are not good fighters like the Ranger, they are naive and inexperienced and often need to be lectured about the dangers of the world, they dont have immense auxiliary powers like healing or even skilled thief like Bilbo, most of the time they are being carried/accompanied by other taller characters. Most of the time they use their tongues more than swords, to an extent they talk like curious children that even annoyed Gandalf.

Many Modern media had failed to create good characters out of such prompt. If a character's sole purpose is just carrying an McGuffin, has no fighting power, inexperienced to help, Extremely talktive, being a hard-core pacifist and has stories solely focusing on their internal struggles while other competent members actively fighting, they will often be memed, hated, and considered as a burden/princess in distress by the DnD/isekai inspired audience, which unfortunately was many people's criticism on movie Frodo (tho i do think it's unfair). Or, they will devolve into solely comical relief in the party like C3PO and Dandelion.

Tolkien managed to make not only one, but FOUR such characters into the fellowship, and he managed to make them relatable and enjoyable. Frodo is not solely a McGuffin in distress, but rather his pacifism and internal struggle were presented well and not looking like to be a burden to the story, and people all agree his character is well written, even surpass the fighting members like Aragorn.

Same goes for Sam, Merry and Pepin who also made great contribution to the story despite being relatively powerless.

I think Tolkien highlighted his theme that Evil was not solely defeated by fightings but by good deeds and hope with the hobbits. It's something rarely successfully represented in modern fantasy stories. Such characters can rarely work in a DnD inspired adventure, but fits perfectly in the fellowship.

Dezi Freeman's final words to slain police 'withheld' out of respect

The Victorian Coroner's Court has heard Dezi Freeman made "appalling remarks" as he stood over the bodies of two police officers killed while executing a search warrant over the alleged sexual assault of a child.

Fresh details about the killings of Senior Constable Vadim de Waart-Hottart, 34, and Detective Leading Senior Constable Neal Thompson, 59, in August 2025 at a property in Victoria's High Country were detailed in a Coroner's Court directions hearing on Monday morning.

A third officer was seriously injured in the incident after being shot in the leg.

Two separate directions hearings are being heard in the Coroners Court of Victoria before State Coroner Judge Liberty Sanger, the first of which will examine the deaths of the police officers.

Counsel assisting, Lindsay Spence, told the court police had executed the warrant after receiving disclosure of an alleged sexual assault involving a child under the age of 16, as well as an attempt to involve a child in the production of child abuse material.

Mr Spence told the court he would not repeat Freeman's alleged remarks out of respect for the families of the officers.

"The purpose of the search warrant was for the locating and seizure of electronic devices that were to be interrogated for the potential presence of child abuse material," he told the court.

"It was also intended that the person of interest was to be arrested and subsequently interviewed."

Family of the officers, including the partner and sisters of Detective Leading Senior Contable Thompson, attended the hearing, while Senior Constable de Waart Hottart's parents joined online.

More details of Porepunkah shooting emerge

The court heard police attempted to negotiate with Freeman for about 34 minutes after he refused repeated requests to leave the bus.

When he was told police were investigating the alleged sexual assault of a child, he responded "oh for f*** sake, what bulls***".

After several attempts to get inside the bus, including one officer climbing on the roof to get entry, Detective Leading Senior Constable Thompson was able to open a window on the bus door and gain entry, the court was told.

He was shot in the face and neck after lifting himself through the window into the bus.

The court heard Senior Constable de Waart-Hottart was then shot in the head as officers tried to retreat from the annex attached to the bus.

The remaining officers took cover behind nearby vehicles, sheds and a shipping container as the shooting continued.

Mr Spence told the court that police body-worn camera footage captured Freeman repeatedly yelling "I had no choice, I had no choice".

He told the court that after the shooting, Freeman exited the bus with a shotgun before approaching Senior Constable Vadim de Waart-Hottart's body and removing his firearm and a spare magazine from its holster, before firing at officers sheltering near a white van.

One officer suffered cuts from shattered glass, while another narrowly avoided being hit after Freeman allegedly fired towards a shed where police had taken cover.

The hearing was told investigators have not recovered the shotgun allegedly used in the attack and do not know how Freeman obtained it.

"A police member was heard to call out 'Can you hear us Thommo?' with the offender replying 'F***ing scum. Die in hell … die in f***ing hell'," Mr Spence told the court.

Mr Spence said Freeman then used the stolen police firearm to shoot Thompson a second time.

"During this time the offender has stood over both bodies and said various things which, out of respect for the families, I will not repeat," Mr Spence said.

The court was also told Freeman said during the confrontation that the search warrant was "illegal" and he did not recognise police authority.

First court hearing

In a separate hearing this afternoon, the coroner will consider matters relating to their killer, Freeman.

It is expected the dates and the scope of the inquests will be set and the witnesses to be called to give evidence will be decided.

Freeman led police on one of the nation's largest manhunts after he killed the officers, who were among a team of police serving a warrant at his home at Porepunkah, 310 kilometres north-west of Melbourne.

The seven-month search for the 56-year-old ended when he died in a hail of police bullets on a remote property in Thologolong, near Walwa on the Victoria-NSW border on March 30.

The coroner will examine the three deaths in detail to establish who died, how they died and what could be done to prevent future deaths, Queensland University of Technology forensic criminologist Claire Ferguson has said.

"They'll have a full reconstruction of what actually occurred, and that might be establishing people's exact positioning in the scenes and forensic evidence," Dr Ferguson told AAP.

Speculation has been rife over how Freeman came to be in Thologolong, about 150km from Porepunkah, where he fatally shot the officers. That could also form part of the investigation.

Footage showed Freeman wrapped in a blanket when he emerged from the shipping container, which appeared to be a makeshift campsite, before pulling a gun from underneath and pointing it at police.

It is not known if he had fired the gun before multiple officers shot him dead, but Police Commissioner Mike Bush has maintained the shooting was justified.

Whether that video will be shown to the public will depend on the coroner weighing up the benefits of transparency and accountability and the probative value of people seeing police shoot someone, Bond University criminologist Terry Goldsworthy said.

Investigators had been exploring the possibility Freeman received help from others in evading police for 216 days, with Mr Bush saying it would have been very difficult for him to get to where he was without assistance.

A full coronial inquest is tentatively set for March next year.
