Probably lost some of muscle mass I built in the last couple months on the cut ngl. Starting a lean bulk now. But very happy with my physique.

At what bfp is bulking actually beneficial?

I weigh 52kg at 170cm (22M). I am obviously pretty light but I don’t think I’m crazy lean, I’d guess about 12% (not pictured, I can see a lil striations in quads also when flexed; I’m just back from holiday so potentially still holding a lil water weight and abs aren’t as defined as usual). It’s worth mentioning that I do have osteoporosis so I have lighter bones than most and this will of course be reflected on my scale weight.

As a skinny kid I bulked the first time I started working out and just became skinny fat; it took me ages to lose the weight again. I like having abs and feel generally good day-to-day, though my lifts aren’t increasing like when I first started (again) gym 10 months ago.

Will a bulk have much benefit or can I continue to eat at maintenance and see gains?

I hope this is okay here - I’m looking for a more balanced view than the GainIt/LoseIt/bulkorcut subreddits as I think they have agendas haha.

Should I be concerned about underweight BMI?

I hope this is okay in this sub! Let me know if there’s a better place to post it.

I grew up skinny and sedentary so I’m under-muscled as a young adult. Then I got skinny-fat at uni by overeating/drinking and still being fairly sedentary (tho I started gym ish).

At the start of the month I moved to a city and my NEAT massively shot up, and as a result my weight has dropped pretty rapidly (3-5 kg in 2-4 weeks). I’ve mostly maintained strength and I’ve since increased my intake, but I’m still working it out and my weight is still dropping a little (though much slower). I now weigh 52kg at 170cm; underweight BMI is anything below 53.5 for my height.
I don’t think I am scarily/dangerously lean and my best estimate is ~12% body fat, and I feel good day to day. Should my BMI be a concern or is it not really a helpful measure in my case? Is there any point in gaining weight rapidly purely to recover my BMI, vs a small steady surplus to support muscle growth?

Tunisian mackerel potato sarnie

Tinned mackerel, harissa, mayo, tomatoes, black olives, fried egg, sliced boiled potatoes, iceberg lettuce, pickled chillies, parsley, lemon, salt.
Really good, but needed some sturdier bread for sure!

Cycling pain

Hi team,

I’ve been getting into road cycling more and absolutely love it. Did my longest ride today, 103km which I am super proud of. It was also my first club ride which I enjoyed.

However, I’m pretty sure it bruises my clit lol. After a ride, even just 30/40km, it hurts to pee for the next day or so (not a UTI!).

Has anyone else dealt with this? Any answers? Maybe my bib shorts aren’t sitting right or I should look at getting a women’s set?

Low altitude mountain huts? (Rifugio G Spirlo, Lake Garda)

This was the most amazing hike I have ever done. Absolutely stunning. I have also done a hut-to-hut hike in Southern Tyrol, but prefer the lush setting of something lower altitude like this. Any recommendations (in Europe)?

I’m looking to work in one next summer season so bonus if anyone has any experience with that.

Anyone else care a lot less about their clothes once they started getting more muscular?

Serious question. I used to be really into fashion and care a lot about what clothes I wore, the fit of each item, making sure it all worked together, making sure I was getting the nichest brands, as well as making sure my hips weren’t showing or whether I needed to pack.

These days, I still pay attention if I'm going to an event, but usually I just throw on whatever tshirt and jeans/shorts are to hand. I feel like my physique does more of the work and I’m also more confident in general, so I’m not stressing about having the hardest fits. Anyone else?

Algorithmic TDEE adjustment coming?

I can’t believe macrofactor is the only app that tracks your intake and weight change and actively adjusts your goals. It seems to me like such an obviously correct weigh to go about nutrition, is Cronometer working on anything similar?

The secret to a banging curry? Patience with the onions (and plenty of them)

Would probably let these go even longer in a perfect world but my stomach was rumbling.

Coconut and spinach dahl with fresh naan (that i overcooked when reheating smh)

Leftover black bean sweet potato chilli quesadillas with fried eggs and pickled red onion. Another banging WFH lunch, absolutely 0 points for presentation.

WFH lunch sarnie

Chicken and chickpea mix with Chinese peanut/sesame paste, s&p, dijon mustard, yogurt for creaminess. Would have liked some chilli oil in there, as well as garlic/ginger paste but don’t have any in stock atm.
Wholegrain mustard on one slice (i just love it haha). Toasted in pan.
Then added the salad: sliced tomatoes, seasoned with s&p, quick pickled carrot ribbons in rice wine vinegar, sesame oil, sesame seeds, sugar and salt, salad leaves. Then siracha and a lil miso on the other side.
Absolutely sublime. Would benefit from spring onions and coriander but ye can’t have everything.

Boyfriend relapsing again - not looking to recover, how to support

Hi guys,

TW because I will talk about how my partner’s ED is negatively affecting our relationship in a selfish way, so if you are sensitive to this then you should probably avoid this post.

My boyfriend of 3 years has unfortunately relapsed with anorexia again. He has struggled with this since before we were together (6+ years) and his longest period of recovery lasted around 4 months. He started general therapy 6 months ago, says that he discusses his ED a bit and that it helps and that he wants to recover, but I am starting to get frustrated because it honestly doesn’t feel that way. I know these things take a really long time to unlearn but this relapse in particular he doesn’t seem to be making any effort to help himself, won’t let me help, and it is getting tiring. I know this is a selfish feeling but I think I’m somewhat valid in feeling this way, and I am looking for advice - how can I accept that he isn’t looking to recover right now, and how can I still be supportive?

It impacts our relationship a lot because he withdraws a lot from our relationship and won’t come on dates with me. One of our shared interests is food and dining out which is obviously impossible now. It’s further strained by the fact that I really enjoy going to the gym and running and it feels like this contributes to his ED but I don’t want to stop my hobbies - I discuss it minimally with him and don’t discuss nutrition except to highlight how important fuelling is.

I feel like at the start of our relationship and during other recovery periods he was making much more of an effort but it feels like we’ve gone so far backwards and he just isn’t interested any more. It often feels like the eating disorder is more important than the relationship. At what point do I say enough is enough? It feels really unfair but sometimes I think he doesn’t have the mental space for the relationship and the ED. I know this would ruin him though.

Any progress pics of slim/skinny guys who successfully lean bulked?

Ive just accidentally hit my lowest weight since starting gym as a skinny kid who became skinny fat - now 170cm and 53kg. I look pretty athletic but I’ve lost a lot of muscle mass in the last few months as well (I didnt mean to drop this much). So now just wondering whether to full send the bulk (10-15% over maintenance) or whether a more conservative approach does actually pay off for people - I’d love to keep my abs!

Chicken saag, peas pulao, and masala chapatti (Shana) in the garden

I lobe Shana paratha but wanted to try something new, and I might actually prefer these.
