AIO church play group keeps offering me food parcels

and i am embarrassed to the point that i haven’t been for two weeks.

i got talking to a nice woman at the playgroup i take my toddlers too a few weeks ago, and i thought she was one of the other kids grandmas.
we weren’t talking about anything in particular or of importance. nothing about my income, home life, anything was mentioned. i could’ve been a millionaire for all she knew. and i enjoyed her company. i asked her which one of the kiddos were hers, she said oh none im a volunteer here. i thought that was nice that they sit and talk to people (i usually sit alone as i am socially awkward lol).

it was coming towards the end and we were getting ready to leave when another woman came up to me and introduced herself as a volunteer. she said i could take any toy i wanted for the kids to take home because they get them for free anyway. i was confused, i said oh no thanks they have plenty of toys. i continued to get them ready to leave and noticed she didn’t ask anyone else.

strange yeah but didnt think anything of it. the week after, another volunteer (all old women) comes up to me and asks how i’m doing for food. i replied saying “oh we get groceries delivered every week” (i was confused by her question at the time because it came out of nowhere) and she walked off. towards the end of the playgroup, she came up to me and pulled me aside. she said she’d taken my pushchair and put some food for us underneath it. i said excuse me?… she said it’s just essentials, rice and beans etc. i asked her why she had done that, i said we don’t need it our cupboards and fridge are full of food at home.
she said “oh just take it anyway, i would if someone offered me free food”.

then for 3. consecutive. weeks. she has done the same. put my pushchair into a “private room” to load it with a food parcel. i have told her, i have told other volunteers that i do not need it. i am not in need. and they just will not listen.

now i havent been for 2 weeks and i feel guilty because my kids love it. we live in a rural area so there is only this one, and we have to travel 20 minutes to it anyway.

i have been taking the food to a local co op to put into their food bank thing. i dont want it or need it.

Seller ignoring me

hello i’m new to DHGate, this is my first order. i made a purchase on 25th June and noticed it says “will be shipped before 28th August” and i inquired about this with the seller, saw they read my messages and didn’t reply.
i asked again, and they said “OK”. didn’t answer my messages.
last night i got scared that it is a scam and the only thing i could see was to request a refund so i did so.
it says the seller has to respond before 2nd July.

my question is, will DHGate step in on 2nd July and refund me automatically?

is it allowed to transfer money into children’s bank accounts?

i am a carer for my partner and 2 infants, i can’t currently work so rely on universal credit. can i afford to save money for them? probably not. but i want to start them a “nest egg” of sorts no matter how small it is.
planning on working part time when they start nursery so my finances will hopefully look a little better then.

will it affect me at all? obviously the bank accounts will be in their names so im not worried about capital or savings over £6k because obviously it isnt my money once its transferred. i just want to give them the world and in the situation we are in right now i cant, and it makes me incredibly sad. i feel like a total utter failure and having universal credit sanction me or anything for transferring money over would be the cherry on the cake. thank you

anyone have experience with Home Group?

been placed in the “01 Urgent DIRECT” band in March. haven’t heard anything yet. anyone have an idea of how long the wait could be?

their stock is in Plains Farm and South Hylton. anyone from them areas, what’s it like living round there? i’m from other side of water so never lived in them areas. had couple friends years ago in South Hylton and i remember it being decent.

another extra question if anyone can help, toddler due to start nursery in January, am i able to apply for nurseries in those areas without actually living in them? i’m actually miles away currently haha

reading patterns makes me feel like a cave woman!!

i got this mini hare kit from a charity shop and it’s my first pattern. it’s mean to be for beginners and i just cannot understand it at all. i’ve tried multiple times and it just doesn’t work.

does anyone have any tips on how to read patterns or how you came to understand them?

i taught myself using videos, i have only made blankets so far. oh and a shawl. but i really want to up my crochet game, i love doing it so much. it’s so relaxing. and i feel this bunny deserves to be crocheted instead of her ingredients sitting in my bedside table lol.

thank you

posting on behalf of a friend as she doesn’t have reddit

basically, she is in private rent. signed last November for a 12 month tenancy, i do know that it has converted to a rolling tenancy now and told her so.
however, she is disabled and the council have told her they expect an accessible house to be ready in around 2 months.
she can’t work currently and is stressing over the 2 month notice. she won’t be able to afford rent for 2 houses during this notice period.
is there anything anyone can suggest? i’m at a loss at how to help her. i suggested using the deposit for one months rent but that doesn’t cover 2 months.
she is on UC and receives PIP.
thank you!
