Guruvayur on Aug 23 with a 5-month-old - any tips/suggestions?

Planning to visit Guruvayur on August 23 for my daughter’s Choorunu. We have a 5 AM slot, so we need to be at the temple by 4:45 AM.

I’ve heard there are 400+ marriages scheduled that day, so I’m expecting it to be extremely crowded.

A few questions for those familiar with Guruvayur:

  • Is the Choorunu venue separate from the marriage area? Just so it can be bit less crowded from marriage crowrd.
  • Our room is near Mammiyur, around 1.2 km from the temple. Considering the crowd and traffic restrictions, would it be better to walk or take the car at around 4:30 AM? Is parking/traffic likely to be a problem even that early?
  • Anything specific we should keep in mind with a 5-month-old given the expected crowd?
  • Any tips regarding where to enter, parking, queues, or moving around the temple that morning?

After Choorunu, we’re planning to visit an aquarium and Chavakkad Beach. Any other places nearby that would be good with a 5-month-old? Not looking for anything too hectic.

Any practical tips from people who’ve been to Guruvayur during heavy wedding rush would be really appreciated!

Checked my CIBIL score for the first time after getting my first credit card last week. Found two closed consumer loans I never took. But CIBIL Score is 764.

Hi everyone,

I recently got my first credit card (IDFC FIRST Hello Cashback, FD-backed) mainly to start building my credit history.

I installed the CRED app and linked my card and checked my CIBIL score for the first time after getting the card. To my surprise:

CIBIL Score: 764

IDFC FIRST Credit Card: ₹1,00,000 credit limit (shows correctly)

Two additional closed Consumer Loans also appear:

Karur Vysya Bank – ₹8,000 (Closed)

CapFloat – ₹2,000 (Closed)

Both loans show:

No outstanding balance

100% principal repaid

No late payments

Reported in 2021 and 2022

The strange part is I didnt take these loans.

I have never had a personal loan, vehicle loan, or home loan. I also don't remember taking any consumer loan, although it's possible I didn't use any BNPL as well.

My questions are:

Has anyone experienced something similar?

Is there any way to identify exactly what these loans were?

Since they're closed with a perfect repayment history, should I simply leave them as-is, or should I dispute them if I genuinely don't recognize them?

I'm happy that my score is already 764, but I'm also a little concerned about accounts I don't clearly remember.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

IDFC FIRST FD Credit Card - Doorstep Aadhaar Biometric KYC scheduled. Does it require PAN?

Hi everyone,

I'm applying for an IDFC FIRST FD-backed credit card as my first credit card to build my credit history.

My application has progressed to the KYC stage, and I received an SMS saying IDFC FIRST Bank has authorized Manipal Business Solutions to conduct Aadhaar Biometric KYC. I've also received another SMS with the agent's details for a doorstep visit.

Here's my situation:

When I applied for the card and later started preparing for the scheduled Video KYC, I realized that my PAN card was missing. I couldn't find it anywhere, so I applied for a PAN reprint/reissue, which is still in process. I do know my PAN number and i have soft copy on my phone and on Digi locker.

What confuses me is that 2 days ago, I spoke to IDFC FIRST customer care, and they told me:

Aadhaar Biometric KYC is Aadhaar-based and doesn't require a physical PAN card.

Doorstep Aadhaar Biometric KYC isn't available for FD-backed credit cards.

But now they've actually scheduled a doorstep Aadhaar Biometric KYC through Manipal Business Solutions as I missed the IDFC calls as they were recieved during office hours.

So I wanted to ask:

Has anyone here with an IDFC FIRST FD-backed credit card gone through doorstep Aadhaar Biometric KYC?

During the KYC, did the agent ask for your PAN card, or was Aadhaar biometric authentication alone sufficient?

If PAN is required, is the PAN number or soft copy enough, or do they insist on the physical PAN card?

Is this doorstep biometric KYC now a normal process for FD-backed cards, or is my case an exception?

Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through this recently. Thanks!

eBike suggestions for daily commuting – Better components over maximum range

A friend of mine is planning to buy an electric cycle for daily commuting.

He's currently looking at some random/unheard-of models on Amazon, but I suggested EMotorad, as it's quite popular.

I already tried convincing him to buy a normal bicycle 😅, but he's set on getting an e-bike.

Priorities:

Daily commute

Good after-sales service

Better components preferred over maximum range

Which EMotorad model would you recommend today? If you think another brand (Hero Lectro, etc.) is a better buy, I'd love to hear why.

Looking for opinions from people who have owned or ridden these bikes for a while. Thanks!

Does Jio have a low-data annual plan similar to Airtel's ₹2,250 yearly plan?

Hi everyone,

I'm an Airtel user looking to port my parents' numbers to Jio.

They're both retired and mostly stay at home. We already have Wi-Fi, so mobile data is only needed occasionally when they're traveling. Calls are the main requirement.

Airtel has a yearly plan (around ₹2,250) that includes a small total data allowance (around 20-30 GB for the entire validity), which works perfectly for them.

Does Jio offer anything similar? Most of the Jio plans I see seem to include daily data, which would mostly go unused in our case.

If anyone has a similar use case, which Jio prepaid plan would you recommend?

My wife captured a candid moment I'll probably watch forever

My wife captured a candid moment that I didn't even realize she was recording.

I was sitting with our 3 month old daughter on my lap, where my daughter is facing me in the morning in our balcony. We were having a full conversation in our own language. Me babbling, her babbling back, and every now and then she'd give me the biggest smile.

Ever since my wife showed me that video, I don't think I've gone to bed a single night without watching it multiple times. I can't really explain what it makes me feel. It just fills me with so much happiness.

I'm only ~4 months into fatherhood, and moments like this completely overshadow the sleepless nights, tiredness, and everything else that comes with having a newborn.

If this is just the beginning, I genuinely can't wait for everything that's still to come. I'm really looking forward to this beautiful journey...

Has anyone else had a random candid photo or video become one of your most treasured memories? I'd love to hear your story!

Best places in Palakkad to take a 3.5-month-old baby?

Hi everyone!

I'm a new dad looking for suggestions on places in and around Palakkad where I can take my 3.5-month-old daughter for short outings.

We're looking for places that are Peaceful and not too crowded, Good for a 30–90 minute visit

We're not looking for trekking or long drives at this stage. Parks, gardens, lakes, viewpoints, cafés with open spaces, or any hidden gems would be great.

Thanks in advance! 😊

Edit: I was checking about Malampuzha aquarium. Is it an right choice or its too early for 3.5 year old?

Pixel 8a got the new Quick Share-Airdrop feature, but Pixel 8 hasn't?

I'm using a Pixel 8 and noticed that after the recent Android 17 update, the new Quick Share feature for easier sharing with iPhones seems to be available on the Pixel 8a, but I still don't have it on my Pixel 8.

What confuses me is that the Pixel 8, 8 Pro, and 8a all use the Tensor G3 chip, so I wouldn't expect this to be a hardware limitation.

Has Google said anything about this? Is it just a phased rollout and coming to the Pixel 8/8 Pro later, or is there some reason those models aren't getting it?

Curious if any Pixel 8 or 8 Pro users here have received it yet.

Pixel 10 made me realize how overrated Google's hardware still is

I bought the Pixel 10 at launch expecting a true flagship experience. I'm not a gamer, but I use my phone heavily for pretty much everything else. Camera quality was my top priority, and for the most part, I was satisfied with it.

Today, however, I discovered something that completely changed my perception of the phone.

I was trying to switch from 4G to 5G for better speeds and noticed that the indoor network reception on the Pixel 10 is shockingly poor. To compare, my dad's OnePlus Nord 5, which costs roughly half as much, gets significantly better reception indoors and maintains strong 5G speeds in the exact same location.

That got me thinking. With the Nord 5, you're paying half the price and getting:

Much better modem performance and signal reception

Faster charging

Better battery life

Sure, the camera isn't on the same level as the Pixel, but when a phone struggles with something as fundamental as cellular reception, it's hard to overlook.

As for many of the software features Google heavily markets, I personally find most of them to be gimmicks. They may be useful for some people, but they haven't added much value to my daily use. To make matters worse, a lot of these features eventually make their way to other Android phones anyway.

This is probably my last Pixel. Great camera, but I'm no longer convinced the overall package justifies the premium price.

Raincoat / Rain Gear Suggestions for 25km(up+down) Cycle Commute (with Laptop)

Hi everyone,

I ride a hybrid bike and commute about 25 km in total(12.5kms+12.5kms), mostly on city roads. I carry a laptop, charger, extra shirt/t-shirt, and lunch box, so keeping both myself and my belongings dry is important.

I'm curious to know what other cyclists here are using during the monsoon. Are you using a full rain suit, just a rain jacket, a poncho, or something else? How well does it hold up?

Also, how do you protect your laptop and other electronics? Which setup do you use?

Amul has increased their Whey pricing. Order it soon before it's reflecting for your pincode

Looks like AMUL has increased the price of their Whey.

The 1kg pack which was around ₹2070 is now showing to ₹2500 for many pincodes. Initially this was happening only for North India, but now in Kerala are also seeing the new pricing. Tamil Nadu still seems to have the old price for now.

So if anyone was planning to buy, this might be a good time before the updated pricing reflects for your area too.

You can also use code RAJAT10 for an extra 10% discount.

I already stocked up 😅

Parents of babies around 2 months old. Can we use Thooli in night and crib in morning times?

Our baby sleeps okay during daytime naps in a crib, but nighttime has become very difficult. She wakes frequently and settles only when carried/rocked in arms, which is becoming physically exhausting for us.

Today we tried a traditional thooli (cloth cradle/swing) and she slept much better in it. We’re thinking of:

  • crib during daytime naps
  • thooli during nighttime sleep

Did anyone else do this temporarily?

Main concerns:

  • Did it create long-term crib refusal or sleep dependency?
  • How did you eventually transition back to crib?
  • Any tips to reduce constant carrying/rocking at night?

Baby is otherwise healthy, feeding well, gaining weight well, and around 2 months old.
