What's the best way to print a staff-like object?

What's the best way to print a staff-like object?

I know common knowledge usually says tilt the model back about 45 degrees and then a little to one side. But is that still true for staff-like objects? I feel like I would want it as straight up/down as possible.

And for the image I provided specifically, should I split it up? The staff+arm as one item, the relic as a separate item?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Looking for cause & (hopefully) a fix

Kind of a weird error on a print. The first image shows my print, with a hole circled in red. Then the other image shows the stl file I used, with no hole.

I feel like I've seen plenty of beautiful cloaked minis on this sub, so surely it can't just be that the cloth is creased in there. Is it that the model is extremely thin there & needs bulked up a little?

Any suggestions are welcome!

How often does the Triumph's height matter?

I keep thinking about kit bashing my own Triumph that fits better into my army, but I'm hung up on those cherubs. Would it be modeling for advantage to leave off stuff at cherub height?

I don't feel like a models height comes into play very often, but I wanted community input.

Is MMF going to stop doing big sales?

I was kind of expecting the MMF Summer Sale to begin to today, just based on previous dates. Obviously, it hasn't started.

But it seems like a lot of creators have been doing flash sales recently. Is there any indication that MMF might be leaning away from larger sales?

If extra steps don't add anything, should I just ditch them?

More context: I was going to have the players investigate a missing agent by checking some of their known dead drop locations. At one of them they will find an attack scene and a random note.

But, if I didn't have anything meaningful going on at the extra spots, should I just ditch them and say "check their one dead drop location" instead?

Looking for space rogues

Hoping the community can give me suggestions for some good space rogue models. Bonus points if its a modular kit.

I've tried searching for space rogues & space pirates, but I tend to get results that focus more on the fantasy versions.

Do you paint your allied units to match your Sister colors?

Just a question of curiosity. If you use some Imperial allies, do you paint them to match your Sister color scheme? Or do you do something different with them?

Looking for suggestions for a dino park ttrpg

Pretty much the subject line. Anyone have good suggestions for dinosaur park TTRPGs? Or adaptations to existing systems to fit the theme?

Edit: For clarity, I'm looking for something where the PCs are trying to survive / escape after a dino park fails. As if that would ever happen...

Seeking tips re: upgrading equipment

Upgrading equipment is always something I suck at with video games. My mentality is always "save those resources for when you REALLY need them" and then I never use them at all.

So I'm just looking for tips when it comes to upgrading my stuff in Shadows. Some questions that have gone thru my head...

- Should I only upgrade the Legendary stuff?

- Should I upgrade the stuff I like every level?

- Should I engrave everything I use?

If there's any other useful info I should know, I'd appreciate it too!

Hobby snips recommendation?

I've gone through two pairs of (admittedly cheap) snips in the six months since I've started 3d printing. The spring eventually breaks on them. Just seeing if any of you have ones that have lasted a good while & perform well?

Are the books too large or am I overthinking it?

Just looking for some opinions on this alternative flight stand idea.

I printed off a stack of books last night and was excited about how it looked. But looking at it again today & realized the books are about the same size as the model's torso.

Does the size of the books make the setup appear too ridiculous? Or am I overthinking it too much?

Need input on dryer use, please

I use my printer relatively infrequently. There are weeks I don't touch it, then there are weeks I'm busy with it.

Currently battling the humidity full time, so the dryer is absolutely necessary. But when it comes to drying filament, whats the best practice? Fully dry it, use it, then store it until I want to use it again? Or is it fine to let it sit for a week or two? If I let it sit, does drying it multiple times damage it?

Details, if it matters:

Printer: A1 Mini

Dryer: Creality SpacePi SE

Filament: eSun PLA+

Please help me make a lower skill list.

TL;DR - I started playing Sisters partway through 10th and haven't won a game yet. Please suggest more idiot-proof list ideas.

The Problem: I've been playing 40k since the end of 9e, and with Sisters since about halfway through 10e. I have yet to win a game with them. I always see people describe Sisters as a high skill ceiling army, where a good player can do great things with them when they understand how & when to trade. I, however, am not a good player. Most battles I feel like my Sister army is comparatively smaller and capable of less than my opponents. Which brings me to my request...

The Request: Help me make a (somewhat) low-skill Sisters army. I'm not looking for anyone to make a whole list for me or anything, but suggestions on what units might work best would be awesome.

Here is the (now slightly modified) list I've been running since end of 10e / beginning of 11e.

-------

Vahl + Warsuits

  • I'm really leaning towards dropping Vahl & the Gals. The squad has always been in my list, but typically either hides & accomplishes nothing, or destroys a unit then gets nuked. They're starting to feel like an expensive trap (365 points for the squad).

2 squads of 10 Sacresants, both with Hospitalers

  • These are a holdover from 10e. They still do amazing, but they're really expensive now. 225 for the first squad (with Hosp), then 250 for the second. Thinking about dropping at least one.

1 Canoness w/ Jump Pack (eq. Clarion of Urgency)

1 Battle Sister Squad

1 squad of 3 Arcos

1 Dominion Squad (flames split in the Immolator)

2 Castigators (1 auto, 1 battle)

1 squad of 5 Seraphim

1 Exorcist (eq. Symphonic Payload)

1 Immolator

1 Rhino

  • When it comes to transports, I feel like I should take them. But again, I feel like I leave them underutilized.

Thanks for reading! Any suggestions, tips, and/or tricks are appreciated.

Getting stringing but only when printing multiple things.

I'll start by saying this isn't a major issue, more of an annoyance.

Anytime I print more than one mini thing at a time, I get very noticeable filament cobwebs between the pieces. Is there a setting I could change to help with this?

Printer: A1 Mini

Settings: Mostly FDG with some edits.

Got Novitiates second hand, have a couple questions

I bought an on-sprue (no box, no instructions, no bases) Novitiate set. I found the instructions online, but I still had a question.

The GW site says the kit comes with ten 28.5mm bases and one 32mm base. Does the Superior always go on the 32mm base? If so, why ten smaller bases?

If it matters, I'm building them to play "regular" 40k, not kill team.

Thoughts on 'City of Prague Philharmonic' performance?

Found their vinyl music from LotR movies. I'm sure it won't be the same as the amazing movie soundtrack, but was just curious on people's feelings.

Looking for approx dimensions of the previewed 11e terrain

There's been a lot of news about 11e, so I might have missed it. But has anyone seen any approximate measurements the terrain GW has been previewing.

Just to be clear, I'm not talking about the terrain footprints. I'm interested in the dimensions of the actual 3D terrain pieces. I'm especially interested in the non-L shaped ruins.

Whats the cheapest and/or easiest way to secure terrain for priming?

My friend printed me some terrain pieces for 40k and I was about to prep them for priming, then realized I wasn't sure how to do all the pieces.

I usually use sticky tack to hold minis for priming, but I don't have enough for all the terrain. Before I go buy more sticky tack, any better methods I could try?

Thoughts on the Quacks expansions? And a couple other questions...

Question 1: Just making sure I'm interpreting this right. The "grey bearded man" box is the base game; the "glasses lady" is the base game but fancy; and the "All In" edition is fancy and also includes both expansions. Is that all accurate or did I miss anything?

Question 2: On the prominent online store, the base game is $40, the All In version is $100. Are the expansions worth the extra cost? Do they really improve or heighten the game?

Question 3: Quacks used to called "Quacks of Quedlinburg," right? Box art looks like a busy Renaissance market. If I found the older version, is it the same? Or did anything major change between these editions?

Anything else you'd like to add about this game?
