Pornstars per Million inhabitants across Europe

This map shows the number of pornstars per million inhabitants across European countries. The data comes from adult industry databases that list performers by nationality or birthplace, then divides those numbers by each country’s population. It includes people who have appeared in adult content over many years rather than only those currently active, so the figures are cumulative.

Czechia and Hungary come out far ahead of every other country on the map, both sitting well above 70 per million. The next highest are Latvia and the United Kingdom, but the gap is still large. Most of Western and Northern Europe falls into a much lower range, while several countries in the Balkans and Eastern Europe show very low rates.

The concentration in Czechia and Hungary is often linked to the fact that both countries developed large, low-cost adult film industries after the 1990s. Prague and Budapest became major production hubs for European and international studios because of lower costs, available infrastructure, and relatively permissive regulations compared with many Western European countries.

It’s worth keeping in mind that these numbers depend on how databases classify performers and how accurately nationality is recorded. Different sources can produce slightly different rankings, but the overall pattern of Czechia and Hungary leading by a wide margin has remained consistent for years.

What People Google About Dreams in Every Country

The map above shows the most frequently searched dreams by country, based on Google search data analysed using Ahrefs. Each country is colour-coded according to the broader theme of its top dream, covering categories such as the human body, animals and nature, love and relationships, money and objects, family, and death.

Snakes emerge as the single most common dream worldwide, ranking first in 52 countries. Teeth falling out is the second most widespread, coming out on top in 17 countries, Other recurring themes include pregnancy, marriage, and dreams about an ex-partner.

In North America, teeth falling out dominates in both the United States and Canada, while lice appears frequently in parts of Central America. South America shows a mix of animal-related dreams. In Europe, teeth falling out is strong in the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden and Norway, while snakes appear more often further east and in the south. Africa is heavily weighted towards snakes, though marriage, death, sex and even shoes also feature in individual countries.

It’s worth noting that this map does not show what people actually dream about most often. Instead, it reflects the dreams people are most curious about or unsettled by, measured by how frequently they SEARCH for their meanings online. That distinction helps explain some of the more unusual results.

P0rnhub 2025 Year in Review: Global, U.S., generational and gender trends and demographic breakdown

P0rnhub's 2025 Year in Review compiles anonymized, aggregated viewing and search data collected throughout the year, highlighting how preferences differ across geography, demographics, and user behavior.

This gallery summarizes the report's main findings, including:

• The most-viewed categories by country and the most distinctive ("relative") search term in each U.S. state.

• The categories that over-index among different generations and between men and women.

• Global traffic distribution, the countries contributing the largest share of P0rnhub's audience, and differences in average viewing time by country.

• Worldwide search trends, the year's fastest-growing searches and categories, and other notable statistics from the platform.

Unless otherwise stated, "relative" rankings indicate terms that were disproportionately more popular within a specific group or region compared with the site's overall user base, they are not necessarily the most searched terms in absolute numbers.

Country-level statistics are based on users' apparent locations as recorded by P0rnhub. As with any online platform, factors such as VPN usage, travel, shared devices, and regional restrictions or blocking (including age-verification laws in some jurisdictions) may influence geographic patterns.

The results should therefore be interpreted as platform usage and platform-specific trends rather than precise measures of national preferences or a a direct reflection of the general population.

Comparing Adult Obesity Rates: U.S. States vs. European Countries

This map compares adult obesity prevalence across U.S. states and European countries using the same color scale. The contrast is striking: nearly every U.S. state has a higher obesity rate than most European countries, although there is considerable variation within both regions. Southern and Midwestern U.S. states generally have the highest rates, while many Western and Northern European countries have the lowest.

Obesity is a complex public health issue shaped by a combination of factors, including diet, physical activity, urban planning, socioeconomic conditions, healthcare access, food environments, and demographics. The map is intended to illustrate geographic patterns rather than explain their causes.

Keep in mind that the figures come from different national health surveys and reporting systems. Although the data have been harmonized for comparison, small methodological differences mean the map is best interpreted as a broad overview rather than a precise country-to-country or state-to-state ranking.

Source: U.S. CDC and European/OECD/WHO-based national health statistics.

Edit: There comparison graphic appears to have a couple of errors in slide 1& 2. Oklahoma should be about 39.4%, not ~42%, and Mississippi (about 40.6%) should also be present as the highest-obesity state. Those discrepancies seem to be mistakes in the graphic rather than changes in the underlying CDC data.

The Scottish Watershed: The Line That Divides Scotland's Rivers, (Only 7 People Have Managed To Complete The Whole Route)

The Scottish Watershed is the principal drainage divide of Scotland, separating rivers that flow east into the North Sea from those that flow west into the Atlantic Ocean. A raindrop falling on either side of this line will ultimately reach a different coast. Till date Only 7 People Have Managed To Complete The Whole Route by walking.

Stretching for roughly 1,100 km (680 miles) from the English border to Duncansby Head (though some define the northern end as Cape Wrath), the watershed follows some of Scotland's most remote and mountainous terrain, averaging around 450 m (1,476 ft) in elevation and crossing 44 Munros.

One striking feature is that it passes through very few of Scotland's major population centres, instead traversing vast areas of sparsely populated wilderness. Because of its length, rugged terrain, and isolation, only a handful of people have completed the entire route on foot.

Male Life Expectancy at Birth by Country: 2019 vs. 2023

These maps compare male life expectancy at birth by country in 2019 and 2023 using the same metric and methodology from the UN World Population Prospects.

Period life expectancy at birth is the average number of years a newborn boy would be expected to live if the age-specific mortality rates observed in that year remained constant throughout his lifetime. It is a statistical snapshot of mortality conditions in a given year rather than a prediction of how long babies born that year will actually live.

Between 2019 and 2023, many countries experienced declines followed by recoveries in life expectancy, although the extent of change varied considerably across regions. Comparing the two maps highlights where male longevity has remained stable and where it has shifted over this period.

Global Suicide Rates by Countries, WHO Estimates

This map shows the estimated age-standardized suicide rate per 100,000 people by country in 2021, based primarily on World Health Organization (WHO) estimates.

The rates are age-standardized to allow fair comparisons between countries with different age structures. In many parts of the world, however, suicide is believed to be underreported due to social stigma, cultural and religious factors, legal consequences, and differences in death registration systems. As a result, the reported figures may underestimate the true burden in some countries.

Note: Some countries and territories with populations under 100,000 may appear to have unusually high rates because a small number of cases can significantly affect the per-capita statistics.

Why are there two maps?

Both maps are based on the same WHO 2021 age-standardized suicide estimates, but they were created by different organizations. The red map groups countries into fixed rate categories (e.g., 0-5, 5-10, 10-15), while the blue map uses a continuous color gradient to represent the same underlying data. As a result, some countries may appear lighter or darker between the two maps, even though they are illustrating the same WHO estimates using different visual styles and legends.

Doggerland: The Lost Land That Once Connected Britain to Europe (18,000 Years Ago)

The map shows Doggerland, a vast prehistoric landmass that once connected Great Britain to mainland Europe. At its greatest extent around 16,000 BC, much of what is now the North Sea was dry land rather than open water.

Far from being an empty plain, Doggerland contained rivers, lakes, marshes, forests, and grasslands that supported large populations of animals such as deer, aurochs, and mammoths. These rich environments were also home to Mesolithic hunter-gatherers, who lived, hunted, fished, and travelled across the region for thousands of years. Archaeologists have recovered stone tools, animal bones, and other artifacts from the seabed and fishing nets, confirming that people once inhabited this now-submerged landscape.

Doggerland existed because sea levels were much lower during the last Ice Age, when enormous amounts of water were locked up in continental ice sheets. As the climate warmed after the Ice Age, glaciers melted and sea levels rose gradually, flooding more and more of the landscape over several millennia.

Around 6200 BC, the Storegga Slide, a massive underwater landslide off the coast of Norway, generated a tsunami that swept across the North Sea. While the tsunami probably wasn't the sole cause of Doggerland's disappearance, many researchers believe it caused catastrophic flooding in areas that had already been weakened by rising seas, accelerating the abandonment of the remaining land.

Today, Doggerland lies beneath the North Sea. Its most prominent remnant is the Dogger Bank, a shallow underwater plateau. Modern seismic mapping, sediment cores, and underwater archaeology continue to reveal ancient river systems, landscapes, and evidence of the people who once crossed what is now open sea.

Cheek-Kissings A Form Of Greeting Including The Number Of Kisses Given by Countries

The map shows where cheek-kissing is a common social greeting and, in some countries, the number of kisses that are traditionally exchanged.

Cheek-kissing is especially widespread across Southern and Eastern Europe, Latin America, and parts of the Middle East and North Africa. The number of kisses varies by country and sometimes even by region, ranging from one to four, with a few local traditions using even more.

It's generally reserved for friends, family, and acquaintances rather than strangers or formal business settings. The custom has deep historical and cultural roots, serving as a non-verbal expression of affection, familiarity, respect, and hospitality.

As with many cultural traditions, practices differ by region, generation, gender, and social context, so local customs may not always match the national pattern shown on the map.

The Closest Point Between Russia and the USA

The map shows the Diomede Islands in the Bering Strait, where Big Diomede (Russia) and Little Diomede (United States) are separated by just 2.4 miles (3.8 km). Despite their proximity, they lie on opposite sides of the International Date Line, so they're typically 21 hours apart because of their respective time zones rather than a full 24 hours.

In winter, when sea ice forms across the strait, it's sometimes possible to walk between the islands in theory, although doing so is prohibited because it would mean crossing an international border.

Few places on Earth better illustrate how geography, politics, and time zones intersect. These remote islands sit between Alaska and Siberia and have long been a meeting point of history and Indigenous culture, making them one of the most unusual borders in the world.

The Name “John” in Different European Languages

This map shows the most common equivalent of the name John across Europe. As the name was translated, each culture adapted it to fit their linguistic patterns such as;

English: John

Spanish: Juan

French: Jean

Italian: Giovanni

German: Johann

Russian: Ivan

The name spread throughout Europe due to the influence of Christianity, particularly through biblical figures such as John the Baptist and John the Apostle. As the Bible was translated into different languages, each culture adapted the name to fit its own pronunciation and linguistic traditions, producing the many regional forms seen on this map.

The same process also gave rise to feminine equivalents like Joanna, Jane, Giovanna, and Juana, all of which share the same origin and meaning.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_(given_name)

> Edit: Thanks for all the corrections and local insights! Like many maps of this kind, this is a simplified overview and many countries have multiple valid regional or linguistic variants. In several countries and regions there are multiple valid forms, and some local variants or smaller languages may be omitted or generalized. I appreciate everyone sharing local knowledge in the comments.

The Paternal Genetic Map of Europe

The map above shows the distribution of major Y-DNA Haplogroups among modern European populations. Haplogroups represent paternal lineages that share a common male ancestor and are one way of examining the genetic history of populations.

Because this map is based only on Y-DNA (passed from father to son), it reflects only paternal ancestry. It does not include mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA), which traces maternal lineages, or the vast majority of a person's genome (autosomal DNA), which better represents overall ancestry.

As with any genetic map, these frequencies reflect population history rather than the ancestry of every individual. They should not be used to rank or stereotype countries or peoples. Human genetic variation is continuous, and all people are equal regardless of ancestry.

America's Drunkest and Driest Counties & Cities

The map above shows the drunkest and driest US counties based on the share of excessive drinkers.

The drunkest is Gallatin, MT where 26.8% of people are excessive drinkers.

And the driest is Utah, UT where only 9.04% of people are excessive drinkers.

The map leverages data from the latest annual datasets of the CDC’s Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System and the County Health Rankings & Roadmaps (CHR&R) program.

In every county on this list, more than one in every four adults drink excessively, while nationwide, fewer than one in five do.

Counties are ranked on the share of adults who either binge drink or drink heavily.

CHR defines binge drinking as consumption of more than four drinks in a single occasion for women and more than five drinks for men, while heavy drinking is defined as more than one drink a day on average for women and more than two drinks a day for men.

Credit: mattsurelee

Edit: Some people have pointed out limitations with the map, which is fair. The county estimates come from CDC survey data and are modeled (MRP), so they're estimates, not direct measurements. Self-reporting, nonresponse, and statistical modeling can introduce error, especially near state borders. The map is best viewed as showing broad regional trends rather than precise county-to-county differences.
