House sitters or kennels?

I'm in a bit of a bind with a trip coming up for a work conference in a couple of weeks. Normally my housemate stays home and takes care of things with plenty of notice but she has a friend who needs help that week with health stuff so last minute...

How do you all handle finding a house sitter or boarding kennel for your working dogs? I've got an older working line GSD, young Mal, and young cattle dog. Plus poultry and a garden.

"with or without reasonable accommodation"?!

I was just putting in some applications for campus jobs at my Uni, and they have this question with the biggest loophole I've ever seen. Is this even legal?

Favorite vendor-booth items?

I'm looking to stock up on some giveaway table items for a vendor table and I'm curious what freebies you all usually pick up at conferences and actually find useful or practical? Or do you wish you'd see more of, or any at all?

What things do you avoid grabbing at the tables because they're silly cheap or you just already have too many?

Doesn't necessarily have to be something for fieldwork, could be lab work, travel, desktop, pet, or personal.

Marmot library network

Is down? I'm having issues with getting a book, and I've even been to the internet (not just Libby) to look for some other paper books in library catalogs and it seems like all of the Marmot network sites are having issues :( am I the only one?

PS

Seems they have a scheduled server migration for August 3rd so mark your calendars, marmot users, Libby won't be able to get books for you then.

Health stats monitor wearables

I'm trying to find a HR/resp/activity wearable. That is the ONLY thing I want. I am striking out hard, every device I've looked at has GPS tracking and a subscription required (at least initially - invoxia works without it, less tracking) but you HAVE to subscribe to a plan which you CAN cancel without a refund, just to get the wearable device into your cart. Maven had what I thought could be a good offer "$88 off if you give us your email" but turned out to be predatory advertising, cancel anytime for a feeand it's unclear whether you can still track health stats without the sub.

FitBark has an activity tracker without GPS (it's on sale right now if you're looking for one) but it's only movement tracking, not health stats tracking.

Am I missing any devices? I'm so frustrated...

App questions!

 1. Notifications for completed cleanings all show the same (most recent or active) job. I wanted to go back through so I can figure out how long each room is taking so I can do my scheduling. (I do room by room scheduled cleaning so the vac will auto empty more frequently - this is something I learned from Roomba experience and seems like this guy doesn't empty as often as it should either).

 2. Photo permissions.... I'm trying to send a help ticket regarding the above via the app. I have a screen recording of the issue, but when I try to attach it, it tells me I need to allow photo permission. I think this is both a Dreame app issue AND an android issue. At some version Android changed to where it will do limited access for most apps, and for some reason I can't find a way to force it to Always allow in the Dreame app. Dreame app seems to only recognize all or nothing. But no matter which way I go to the permissions for it (through settings - privacy - permissions OR through the app settings) I can select Always allow, but when I go back out of the permissions screen and back in, it's reset to Limited. I've tried clearing the cache, restarting the phone etc.

So... Idk. I'm just hoping someone might have found a way to fix either issue.

My "black diamond watermelon" 😂

Tastes OK, but I've never seen seeds like this in a melon (not that I'm an expert melon grower or anything...CLEARLY)

Process or template for formatting a bibliography page?

I am adding a bibliography to my site. I want it to follow the style guide for Society of American Archaeology, which is a line of authors flush with left margin, then a line that begins with the year flush with the left margin, a white space (in Word it's a <tab>) then the rest of the citation info, wrapped, with it aligned with the right hand side of said white space. I don't have CMS. How would this be done? I'd love a template or css code if you've got it and willing to share.

Thanks!

Wheelchair time

Just posting an update. I decided to retire Hawk for good this spring. He's still getting around but he's kinda useless for real fieldwork as his strength/stamina only lasts 10 minutes at the most and the lengthy travel to sites is also really hard on him. He will still get to go to the detection training sessions that I go to with my working Mal, as long as it's feasible and he's enjoying (demanding) it.

He's also been falling a lot because "damn it, leg, do what you're told!" Some of this loss of strength is, of course, due to the FM but he's been losing muscle tone now for several months since he's nearly 12 years old (August)! The muscle loss is really starting to show up in the rest of his body (face, core, feet, chest, etc).

He's the kind of dogs whose joy is in movement, so just letting him lounge on the couch all day is not an option for him - he would absolutely hate it and I suspect it would just accelerate the end through depression.

I knew from the point of diagnosis that a wheelchair was in his future. I should have started saving for it sooner, but alas I didn't foresee a job loss this March with a continuing period of unemployment. Fortunately, I put in some search terms somewhere (Google or Reddit) and it got me to a Reddit thread for doggie wheelchair options and I contacted one of the organizations mentioned in the thread, and we got a (brand new) Walkin' Wheels loaner sent to us. By some miracle of shipping, we got it in 2 days from our request and confirmation (fortunately as I'm out of town next week).

We started the training and acclimation process today, once I got it set up and adjusted. I want him able to use it like a pro before he REALLY needs it.

Here's just a repeat of the list I found in the other post, in case you need help getting one for your dog.

And Walkin' Pets has a list of more organizations on their website

Also, if you're not in need of help getting a wheelchair and you have the resources, please consider donating to these organizations (some also accept used wheelchairs).

Bumper tear down leftover parts

Tldr; anyone who's done a complete tear down of the iRobot S9, do you know where these go??

OK I know S9 is old but having a recent job separation I need to keep it running for a bit longer. A couple of weeks ago, it started doing something wonky (one of many many things I've had to fix and had it entirely replaced for under warranty - so many issues) and I exhausted all suggestions except for a full tear down and cleaning (and yes, it needed it!), still didn't work and last ditch effort was about cleaning bumper sensors so I tore it all the way down to the bumper, and even started to try to disassemble the bumper module but gave up out of total frustration and exhaustion. I'm back at it now because dust bunnies are taking over the floors and I'm recovered and finally have a free day to go through the whole process again because now I'm getting a bumper stuck error and I suspect it might have something to do with these washer things.

I just want to put these two rubber washer things back and I don't even remember where they came from. 😭

If anyone has any idea where they might go, I'd sure appreciate it! I took it apart again and I don't see where they should go.... (but my vision is not super, even with glasses (a lot to do with lighting).

Please help if you can!

Thanks!

Litter barnyard mix hatched yesterday

Brooding mama is a black Astralorp, but who knows whose egg she hatched (she got to keep 5 fresh ones from whoever used the nest before she claimed it). Papa is either a blue cochin or a lavender Orpington.

I want the Icon to CHANGE in the FAQ open/close sequence

I want my little "toggle" icon to change from a dog laying down when the answer is closed to a dog standing up when the answer is open. I have gotten as far as both icon images added, and the "open" one hidden for the page load, but after that I cannot figure out how to set up the swap through the animations menu without messing up the rest of the animation for the text blocks. https://preview.webflow.com/preview/canines-for-heritage-preservat-a72dea?utm_medium=preview_link&utm_source=designer&utm_content=canines-for-heritage-preservat-a72dea&preview=50fcb00aab4db49e0822d2625e4b4396&pageId=69a7ac087dcf29e7806011c5&workflow=preview

I just completely re-did the FAQ section from a template because the original (with a rotating toggle arrow) was having crazy issues I couldn't figure out and every change I made made things worse.... It's clean again, but now I just want these images to swap for open/closed.

Thanks for any help on this!

Got our results back today! It was mostly curiosity, but also wanted the MDR1 checked. I had my suspicions and was correct on all 3 counts though I was expecting a more even distribution of Boxer/APBT. He has very strong Boxer personality traits. And I was expecting some spitz breed in there somewhere for the sickle tail. But the ACD is strong in this one!

Anyone doing scent work with theirs?

u/aamuraya — 4 months ago

The ACD is pretty obvious with the red spots, but he has a really broad head so APBT and the completely goofball, punch-you-every-chance personality of the Boxer. I've had a lot of dogs in my life, personally and working with them, and he's quickly becoming my favoriteish (adopted end of Feb).
