While many people started discussing a metro for Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in recent years, one young voice had already raised the issue in 2024.
Shubham Rameshwar Kakde, a youth leader and student from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, wrote to government authorities demanding that the city be considered for a Metro/MetroNeo system. His argument was simple: a growing city should plan for the future before traffic and urban challenges become unmanageable.
At a time when most people were discussing current problems, he was thinking about the city’s next 20–30 years. With the expansion of AURIC, Shendra, Waluj, Chikalthana, CIDCO, and increasing population growth, he believed that modern public transport would eventually become a necessity rather than a luxury.
Despite sending the proposal, no response was received from the authorities.
However, the lack of a response did not change the core question:
Should a city that serves as the economic and educational hub of Marathwada continue to rely only on roads, or should it start planning for a modern mass transit system today?
Whether one agrees with the metro proposal or not, it is encouraging to see young citizens participating in discussions about the future of their city and demanding long-term infrastructure planning.

Emphasising that development and environmental conservation must go hand in hand, the Chief Minister said no decision would be taken by overlooking public sentiment, ecological concerns, or the interests of local residents.
