A few small issues - help appreciated - UK

Garden is generally pushing on and stuff is starting to be read for harvest (had a few tiny potatoes from a test dig), french beans, Swiss chard and baby courgettes. However there’s a few spots in the garden I could do with a few bits of advice.

Potatoes - are we thinking this is blight or just dying back one plant has withered back quite a bit, the rest generally look pretty green but I noticed brown developing on the leaves of another this morning. Not sure of variety it was from a bag of Lidl potatoes that sprouted in the bag.

Corn, one of my corn looks like this with the middle looking a bit destroyed and the leaves feeling rough and almost scarred, rest of plants unaffected.

Tomato - I shared my mutant tomato on the tomato sub the other day but now seeing other posts, I’m thinking it’s actually a negative for the plant. It’s off a giant double bloom and as you can see has a stem with flowers growing through the tomato. Do I leave it to ripen? Will it ripen even? Or is it causing such harm to the plant I should get rid so the plant can focus its energy elsewhere. If it was still a flower I’d get rid, but I’m kinda invested now in finding out what happens with it.

My “mini farm”

I ask a lot of questions on here but thought it time to share my “mini farm” in my back garden.

Front - yellow courgettes, and runner beans with the bare spot to the right where I’ve just sown some late Uchiki Kuris in a Hail Mary attempt to get some this year.

Middle left strawberry bed, only bought 2 plants this year but the runners are starting to establish themselves for next year. Middle right bed marmande tomato and couple of cucumber seedlings I just planted out, to the right dwarf beans which haven’t done great and have been feeding the slugs. About to succession planting some more out shortly.

Back left “empty bed” 3 rows of carrots (chantenay, Nantes 2, Amsterdam 2” have gone in this morning. Middle back sweetcorn and Swiss chard. Back right potatoes. To the left out of view my 4 cluckers who give us eggs.

2nd picture, my 10 tomato plants mamande and tigerella and maybe a couple of others ( I threw all my tom seeds in one pot and let them go, so no idea what germinated)

5 days in bubbles galore

My BOOCH generally chugs along and forms its pellicle and then I bottle. I’m not used to see such activity under the surface though

Late sowing - southern UK

I’m late to the party on my winter squash this year and I’m wondering whether sowing some Uchiki Kuri squash today will get me any squashes? Or whether to just leave it until next year.

Also thinking about what goes in the ground after I pull the potatoes and thinking about starting some leeks off? Again will this get me leeks for after Christmas?

Talking about drugs with your kids

How do we tackle this subject as parents? I took plenty of recreational party drugs in my late teens early twenties (the usual music associated subjects). My partner didn’t, she maybe smoked a little bit of weed but that’s it so I think it should be me to speak with my kids about it, but how do I address it with them? What age? Do you give real world examples / anecdotes? Or keep it formal? Any advice appreciated.

Meet the mutant

Think this is a marmande (sowed all my seeds together) anyway first tomato is potentially an alien in disguise

Shore Fishing in Dorset in August .

Long time fly fisherman though don’t get out these days with a young family and running a business. We’re heading down to Dorset for August Bank Holiday and I’d love to introduce my 6 year old to fishing (though he does have it in his head we’re bringing them back as pets.

Has anyone got any advice on beginner friendly spots. We’ll be using pretty lightweight gear so maybe somewhere for mackerel if they’re still around?

Any advice appreciated

Rocket battles and trainer battles resorting to auto loss instead of loading in

Had it twice this morning once for a rocket battle and once for trainer battle where once I’d selected lineup instead of going to battle, it went to the defeat screen. Both were fine when I redid them.

Starting Elvanse in the morning, hit me with your advice

Starting Elvanse titration in the morning with 30mg and I’m a mixture of excited and anxious. I read breakfast was important, so my partner has made some overnight oats for me to have.

Other than that not sure what to expect. Bit sad I won’t be able to have my morning double espresso I usually have first thing as it’s a bit of a ritual.

Edit update - taken my first dose along with some overnight oats and a couple of scrambled eggs on toast. Waiting for it to kick in, mixture of excited and nervous

Edit 2 - took dose about 4 hours ago, thought it hadn’t kicked in as still felt pretty brain foggy, until I realised I’d cleaned my kitchen, living room and hall way and applied for 20 jobs. Feeling a little whoozy now so sat down having a break. HR seems steady around mid 80’s. Making sure to drink a glass of water on the hour

Edit 3 - was actually really hungry by 1pm so had a tuna melt. Though not done any of my usual snacking. Been drinking a glass of water per hour. Now 2.30 and feeling like the meds are wearing off. Managed to be pretty productive, and generally more attentive, but still felt some brain fog. Starting to yawn now and resting heart rate is up in the 90’s

Winter Veg

I’m probably late already for most things but I’m starting to think about what winter veg I can still sow to get a harvest this winter? I currently have circa 1 x 1m free thanks to my peas not germinating and then will have another 1x1 once French beans finish and then 3 of 2x1m once potatoes (1 of the beds), courgette and runner beans (another bed) and sweetcorn (final bed but this also has Swiss chard which will hopefully go through) finish. Is it too late for leeks and carrots to go in? I have a 0% success rate in getting brassicas to finish with getting decimated. I also have Uchiki Kuri squash going into a final bed this next week or so which will hopefully store for the winter season

Purifying water

Just reading through this sub, water shortage seems to be a real concern to many. Is it possible to purify any water? I have 3 water butts in my garden which I use for plants / giving to the chickens = maybe 500L of water. I used to have tablets of use on mountain stream water when hiking, but this is a bit more yucky. Any advice on if it’s possible to get it to drinking quality?

Keeping Corny Kegs Cold at an Event

I've got a small pallet bar being built that I plan to have a double beer out of the top of, with space for a couple of corny kegs underneath. has anyone got recommendations for keeping these cool during an event, anywhere from 4-8 hours. Many thanks,

Posted a few days ago about making level 20, I managed to make Ace for the first time. Now back to tanking

u/bibipbapbap — 1 month ago

Will I make it to 20?

Finished sets for today. This season has dragged mainly because I’ve not tanked and thought I’d give it a go reaching Ace for the first time as you can see I’m level 18 (think I’ve won 5 battles so far) and have 2 days left is it possible to reach 20 still with 2 days worth of battles left?

Which one to push beyond level 40

Looking for which on of these to push on beyond 40. Had the shadow for a few months, and kept having the urge to purify for the hundo, thankfully got a separate hundo on comm day. Which one should I continue to level past 40?
