Overland rig advice

Looking to buy a vehicle to build out into a overland/off-road rig. I’m kinda at a fork in the road and maybe the answer is obvious but I just can’t make the decision.

I’m torn between an og Land Rover defender 110 (not the junk modern ones) or a new 4Runner trd off road. I know it’s a 30 year difference but I’m trying to figure out the pros/cons for each considering they’re about the same price.

I’ve been thinking that the Land Rover has been tried and true for at least 40 years and since it’s older it should be easier to work on at home, plus it’s a 300tdi engine paired with a locker and from what I’ve heard a great manual transmission

Where as the Toyota I’d have a harder time working on it myself but every shop around me could work on it very early as well as much better parts availability

I might be trying to compare apples to oranges here but maybe someone in here could give me some guidance

Wrx purchase help

Edit: I canceled the dealer appointment

Remove if now allowed, but I’m looking at purchasing my first wrx. I feel like the price is relatively cheap for an sti especially one that’s had some work done to it, I called the dealer and plan on driving down to see it Friday

Looks to be a decent deal I just wonder if it’s going to be a lemon at this price

When I go look at it what should I look for?

Recommended gearing for extra heavy UDR?

Welp, my UDR ate another pinion gear. I’m starting to question if I have the right size for all the extra weight I’ve added to this truck, the biggest culprit being the vitavon chassis. I’m running a 42t spur and a 25t pinion.

I’m half wondering if it’s because I’m running a stock traxxas 2200 motor. Am I at the point where I need to look into different motors? I’m happy with the performance I get currently just not a fan of having to mesh my motor once a week

Should I look into bigger or smaller pinions?

Banshee fe kit + griffin mk2 lower?

Hey all I just ordered a griffin mk2 lower was planning on getting a banshee upper for it, I was curious if anyone has done this combo. I’m thinking I would have to take the ejector off the lower but other than that I can’t think of any other compatibility issues

If they won’t please drop some suggestions for upper receivers, I plan on shooting exclusively suppressed and occasionally frt (if it works)

Thanks!

In case you didn’t know, Steinel makes a 777g bullet for the 45-70. Which is 27g heavier than the average .50 bmg bullet

9mm and 5.56 for size comparison. I will be posting a video of these rounds once my bowers vers 458 is out of jail

Center diff oil weight for UDR?

Hi all, I’m rebuilding my second hand Udr and plan on redoing the diffs, I was planning on 50k in the front and 30k in the rear but I cannot find a solid answer on what I should use in the center.

I’ve heard anything from red n tacky all the way up to 1m wt diff oil. I mainly drive the truck on either hard, compacted dirt or loose soil and some sand every now and again.

I’m wondering if anyone has experience with 3-500k on dirt?

Finally got the udr back together

First big jump back into the hobby in years, definitely chose the wrong car to do it lol. Bought it on marketplace a while ago and broke the chassis where the lower rear suspension arm connects and had to do a full disassembly. I figured while it was fully apart I’d pimp it out with vitavon (almost) everything

Im excited to get it back on the ground, pretty sure I didn’t mesh the motor correctly and the steering servo isn’t working lmao so hopefully soon

Anyone have experience with vitavon Udr chassis?

I’ve hit a wall with this car, the carbon plate that the esc mounts to is not threaded and the stock screws are not long enough. What size screws would I need and are there lock nuts and washers that will fit?
I definitely bit off more than I could chew with this

I’ve got a zev 226 that’s got around 5k rounds through it and recently while shooting it the mags would randomly drop.

I took it apart and found that the shelf on the magazine catch was completely rounded off and won’t positively hold a mag anymore.

Looking for recommendations on a good extended catch that will hopefully last longer
