This post is inspired by someone on nameberry who just named their baby Beverly Barbara! I think the idea of a little Bev is so adorable and it reminded me of other old-fashioned names I have a soft spot for.
Lots of names that were popular in the past are already popular again - think Evelyn, Theodore, Clara - but where are the vintage gems that haven’t yet been revived? I’d love to hear your old-fashioned favorites, guilty pleasure names, or cool names of older relatives/people you know :)
I’ll start:
- Bernadette
- Geraldine
- Walter
- Ernest (little Ernie!)
- and of course, Beverly
Your turn!
My roommate (we share an apartment, not an actual room) unfortunately has really bad BO. Her room smells strongly of it and it permeates the common areas, including the bathroom, when she opens the door. Even when the door is closed, the smell sneaks under the door and follows her around.
Some days it’s better, some days it’s worse. I normally wouldn’t be picky about this because sometimes people just smell how they smell and it’s important to be able to exist comfortably in your own home - but this is now affecting my own ability to exist comfortably. I don’t want to be in common spaces as much and am constantly lighting candles, using room spray, etc because it stinks.
My roommate is a lovely person and we get along very well. We both struggle with our mental health, so I understand deeply how much energy it can take to keep up with hygiene/chores during a rough patch. I’m nervous to bring this up to her because I’m worried she would become self-conscious and uncomfortable at home. On the other hand, it’s possible she just isn’t aware her BO and room smell are this strong.
I know I probably have to say something, but what? How can I navigate this kindly?
If You Are A Shift Typer Or Former Shift Typer, Please Explain. i’m not even writing this to pass judgment. i’m pretty much healed from my past pickiness about grammar. but WHY? what causes people to type in title case (or worse, capitalize Every Single Word) when they’re not writing a title?
i often type in lowercase as a stylistic choice because i just like the way it looks - is that the reason?
do some people mistakenly think that’s how sentences are supposed to be written?
why???
I’ve been having trouble with finding motivation to make and eat food lately - most days, I can only manage dinner plus really easy snacks. I’ve always been a picky eater (I suspect related to autism), and once I find a food I like I tend to eat it over and over because it’s reliable. The appetite issue is new.
I’ve talked to my doctor about it and we’re switching my medication to see if it helps, but in the meantime, I was thinking of trying some bottled shakes or smoothies to get some daily nutrients in liquid form. Liquids are easier than solids right now.
I’m in Canada if that influences recommendations. Yop (liquid yogurt) and chocolate milk with extra protein are a couple of my current go-to “breakfasts”.
i’m curious about any real analyses people might have, but mostly looking for a laugh!
