7YoE Java Full Stack Dev struggling to get an interview. Seriously thinking of switching domain.

Hey guys!

I'm a Java Full Stack Dev with 7 years of experience and I'm getting very few interviews here and there, but nothing actually solid. I know that the market is currently shot everywhere, but never expected it to be this worse.

At times, I thought about switching careers even at the cost of doing professional courses/certifications, but companies need experience, so that brought me back to square one.

I'm seriously considering applying for IT admin/technician roles, but that would be a different domain, and given my experience I don't know whether I'll get considered for these kind of roles.

Advice?

What's this place in the middle of nowhere? And what do you guys think about the active serial killer in Nanaimo area?

My sister wanted to go out on a nice trip somewhere far from Vancouver so I started exploring Nanaimo. I usually survey the maps and look for odd places (kind of a stupid hobby of mine) and that's when I found this compound in the middle of nowhere.

I also heard from a local friend about an active serial killer in VI somewhere near Nanaimo. What do you guys think?

Can I gift a house to my Sister?

Hey all,

Recently retired after selling my business. Bought a nice house in an upscale neighborhood, a vacation house, and a small house in the countryside. Invested the rest in some financial instruments.

I'm kind of sorted for now, but I'm thinking about my sister. She has a family of her own and in this economy everyone knows how hard it is to own a house. So I'm thinking of buying her a house so that she doesn't have to worry about having a roof over her head.

I'm looking at a 3 bedroom condo, but figured that condos aren't great for the long term, so decided to look for houses. The budget will obviously jump two fold and I'm fine with it. If I go for a condo, I'm looking at $200k and about $400-500k for a house in a good neighborhood.

I'm mostly worried about whether she can afford the high property taxes. I can pitch in an unlikely event that she cannot afford to.

Also, if I gift her the house, would she be liable to pay any taxes?

What's the most scariest, mysterious, unexplainable thing you've come across in BC!?

In my case, it was visiting Port Renfrew. It was a creepy place for sure. It was dark and lonely, and I felt like I was being watched the entire time that i was there.

30's is when you start losing friends.

I feel that when you hit the age of 30 is when you start losing your friends due to career or marriage or moving to a different city/country or due to any other responsibilities.

It's tough and a lonely road watching friends become distant but that's how it is in your 30's.

I moved out from India 3 years ago for my higher studies, and I've been slowly talking less with my bestfriend in India. It's not that I'm not putting effort from my end but it should come from the other side too. I understand that life gets in its way. Then I'm seeing friends I made here in abroad move away to a different state or city for a job or whatever, slowly but steadily lose contact.

I feel I'm on a lonely road and it's going to get worse soon. I know for a fact that all these friends that I'm losing touch with will come back again when we hit 40.

Am I the only one?

How do i cope?

Is it better to buy cars in cash or finance them?

Hey guys,

I'm sort of in a dilemma as to whether I pay all cash to purchase cars or finance them. I'm ok with either of the options but I prefer not to have any loans since i recently sold my business and consider myself retired.

I'm currently looking to purchase a car for my parents, a car for my wife, and 2 cars for myself. I don't wanna lease any cars so that's out of the window for now. All of the cars will be brand new, as i don't prefer buying used cars.

Alternatives to Timber with Sandalwood?

I was a big fan of Timber with Sandalwood, until it was phased out. I tried Fiji but the smell doesn't last like it used to. Captain was ok but i prefer something like Timber.

Any similar alternatives or something better than Timber?

Felt like being watched by someone or something in Vancouver Island.

I was born and raised in the city, and I've never really spent any time out in the woods until I moved to Vancouver. A friend of mine who lived there took me out for a long drive up to Port Renfrew.

The moment I laid my foot at the Renfrew pub, I felt something was off. I've barely seen any car drive towards Renfrew or any people as a matter of fact. The area around the pub was so dark and eerie. I knew it was a very small town only with a handful of people, but to me personally it felt like a ghost town.

Anyways, my buddy took me out on a hike near Renfrew, and I felt like I was being watched by someone or something the entire time that I was out there. I could hear the sounds of the woods go silent all of a sudden for a couple of seconds and then everything would settle back to normal. I felt a sense of dread and wanted to get out of there.

Is there something wrong with that place or is the entire Vancouver Island that way?

Buying a house or building one from ground up?

Hey all,

I recently exited from my small business and ended up with mid 7 figures in the bank. I'm also consulting a financial expert with regards to investment strategies.

With that being said, i already own a 3 bedroom condo but I want to sell it and get a bigger space which can also accommodate my parents. I'm torn between 2 options, I either buy a house or buy a piece of land and hire an architect to build a house for me as per my taste.

The only benefit I see going with the 2nd option is that i get more land and can customize my house accordingly. I'm not really worried about permits because that can be taken care of.

I have a budget of $1.5M which I'm not sure I should be spending given how much I have in the bank. I have no idea how much net worth I can tie into a house alone. Should I keep it under a mil or go all in with 1.5 mil. Advice?

If I buy a house i can immediately move in, and if I go with the 2nd option I have to wait for 2-3 years. I'm alright with both options.

For the first option, I'm getting less land area and square feet for the house, but I'm getting more for the 2nd option.

▲ 10 r/Stutter

Stutter is ruining my job interviews and talking to new people on the phone.

I've been quietly suffering with stuttering since childhood. It was more prevalent when I was a child that everyone around me would notice and point me out from the crowd. It was awkward and spiked my anxiety out of the box. It wasn't manageable at all and I would open my mouth less to stray away from embarrassment.

As I grew older, the stuttering became less noticeable to people around me. Family and close friends knew and understood me, but random people could never figure it out until and unless they spent a lot of time around me. More the reason for me to stay away from random people.

The one thing that never helps is stuttering very badly in job interviews and talking to random people on the phone. It's 100% noticeable then and I've been asked to repeat what I just said a couple of times. It's honestly very very embarrassing and costing me my job interviews as they are very hard to get these days. I've considered asking for special accommodation but figured nobody would go out of their way to help me out.

Is there any way that I can overcome this problem? Maybe a surgery or speech therapy sessions?

Are there any 3bhk (preferably 2000sqft) apartments available in Hyderabad within the range of 1.5 to 1.6cr inclusive of registration and amenities?

Same as the above, but my preference would be north Hyderabad. I'm looking to purchase hopefully next year or before. A gated community is not an important preference but I can settle with a semi gated. Hospitals nearby are a must.

BC doctor wouldn't update WorkSafeBC until I get an MRI even though Ultrasound report proves workplace injury and matches with Ultrasound report from out of Canada.

Hello all,

I had a workplace injury last year which was reported to WorkSafeBC by my manager. I visited a local doctor and was then sent to a physiotherapist by WorkSafeBC. I was still working but with accommodations in place during the time of treatment. I was back to work 100% without any accommodations post treatment. I was still in pain but worked with it.

I visited my home country a few months ago, and got an MRI and Ultrasound done. Turns out the injury was much worse to begin with. I was basically misdiagnosed by the doctors in Canada. I reported the same to my workplace and stopped going to work. The manager at work asked me to reopen my old case with WorkSafeBC to see what my options are. WorkSafeBC told me that reports from out of the country aren't valid unless verified by a local doctor.

So i went back to my old doctor who misdiagnosed me and explained the situation I was in. The doctor told me that reports from out of the country aren't valid and that I have to get an MRI and Ultrasound tests done again here in Canada. I accept the tests and the doctor immediately gets me an ultrasound done for my injury. Sure enough both the ultrasound reports are 100% match. I then asked the doctor if they are going to update WorkSafeBC about this, but apparently the doctor wants an MRI just to be sure.

I know for a fact that getting an MRI would take me months and I don't have any other job at the moment. I'm running out of money so I call WorkSafeBC and explain my situation and ask if they can accept my old claim with new medical findings and the new ultrasound report. Turns out the doctor didn't update any notes to WorkSafeBC. I'm stuck in a limbo.

What are my options at the moment?
