FND is the main cause of my dysphagia
Yesterday, I was diagnosed with FND. I originally thought my swallowing issues stem from oral thrush and acid reflux, but no, just FND.

From these two listings, are these accurate? Like, which one is better? If I’m to buy something, I would like it to be accurate as possible. Thank you for helping!
Hi all,
My dysphagia started out of nowhere, about a month ago. I went from eating so much, to very little. I was diagnosed with oral thrush (finally cleared, as of now) and reflux esophagitis (I am on PPI’s). They also said my anxiety can be a main factor, as well, and have been put on Ativan (it has helped immensely and my heart rate is down). I was in the hospital for five days for this and the SLP said my swallowing mechanic was normal (I was able to swallow a piece of graham cracker and pretzel in hospital. I tried this again, yesterday, and was able to eat a pretzel, but my throat felt weak and tired after). I have been trying different things: mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, sushi fish, baby food. The mashed potatoes and mac and cheese were a bit difficulty to get down, but I think it was because they were thick. The sushi fish I had no problem and I even chewed it and swallowed it. Was this all because I was sick and now I am getting better? Will I be back to how I was before this? My endoscopy was clear, besides the reflux esophagitis (which was seen in the biopsy) and my barium swallow was fine (besides mild reflux). Below, I will provide the report from the SLP, which was from a few weeks ago when I was in the hospital and was the final report. Also, I have autism, so that can be another reason why it feels so more profound. My throat still feels weak and I feel residue (mucus) in my throat, plus I need to spit a lot more frequently. Especially, if I was able to eat a pretzel yesterday (still needing to use a little water), that shows there really isn’t a motility issue? I just need time to recover? I am also able to swallow pills (my Ativan) with no issue and even chug water. I’m also worried about a feeding tube, but I don’t think I’ll need one as I’m able to take things by mouth still, plus I’m able to keep my weight (150). Before I was sick, I was in the 170 range, so I did lose about twenty pounds, but I don’t mind because I needed to lose weight anyway and am back to wearing clothes that I haven’t worn in years.
SLP REPORT:
Subjective:
Pt was awake and alert upon arrival, agreeable to trials of PO. Pt reported consuming yogurt following procedure yesterday, reported no difficulties.
** **
Objective:
Materials administered: dental soft, regular textures and thin liquids - SLP spoke to RN who reported pt could trial regular textures.
Pt w/ adequate labial seal for bolus retrieval and containment, no anterior bolus loss present. Adequate mastication of regular textures w/ functional bolus breakdown and transfer, pt independently used liquid wash to mitigate globus sensation. No oral residue noted. Suspected prompt swallow initiation and fair hyolaryngeal elevation to palpation. No overt signs of aspiration.
** **
Assessment:
Pt presents w/ s/s suggestive of functional oropharyngeal swallow skills ?esophageal component vs presence of thrush causing globus sensation, as characterized by description above.
** **
Plan/Recommendations:
Regular textures and thin liquids
Meds as tolerated
Swallow strategies: seated upright, slow rate, small bites/sips, alternating liquids/solids
Frequent oral care
SLP to f/u x1 as able and appropriate for diet tolerance
I am glad to have such a rare Queen item in my collection. This is a PROTOTYPE of the Hot Space tour jacket that was given to the band and crew. Unlike the sought out orange lining jacket (the one given to the band and crew), this prototype has red lining (and is missing the epaulette with QUEEN on it like the official one). Only one of these are in existence. The jacket is brand new and never worn. It still even has its original plastic bag. As far as I know, this jacket was given to Meredith Day in 1986 by Terry Lee Haefer, who was the owner of the band merch company “Great American Curve Company.” This jacket was designed by Warwick and Karen. The first three photos provided are the prototype jacket and the last two are the jacket that was given to the band and crew.
Hi all, as a Syracuse student, I have access to the Ronald G. Becker Collection of Charles Eisenmann Photographs, which are available through the university’s library digital collection. These photographs are of sideshow performers and are ORIGINAL. I can try my best to get copies or whatnot and maybe even speak to the university and mention this forum (maybe they’d be even more entitled to share these photographs with us and work with us). This will take time and I will work with the head of this forum to get this done. If we are able to get copies of the original photographs, we will post the collection here. I am only an online student, so this may be a bit more difficult. If there are any in-person Syracuse students among this forum and willing to help, that will be very helpful. Thank you!
Stop sending me message requests about meeting up, how tall you are, what you look like, etc. I don’t care and I don’t know you, nor asked you to message me. Stop being weird towards women. It’s inappropriate and makes me (and others) uncomfortable. I know it’s the internet, but please be mindful. It’s creepy. Thank you for listening to my TED talk and please, ladies, be safe out there and ignore those messages (if you receive them) from those creeps. They’re everywhere. Plus, this is not a dating forum, so get a hint.
I randomly lost the ability to swallow solid foods a few weeks ago and was in the hospital for it. I was diagnosed with oral thrush and reflux esophagitis (via biopsy) and I’m on medication for both now, plus a strong medication to help with my anxiety. Yesterday, for the first time, I was able to swallow a solid food, raw salmon. Yes, this a huge feat for me and I love sushi. I know it melts in your mouth, but still, that means I most likely do not have a motility issue and it was just from me being sick and my anxiety, which is now under control. I am also able to chug water and swallow a PILL. I still know I’m a long road to recovery, but this is just the start. Before this, I was even starting to consume baby food. Soon enough, I won’t have to worry about ensure and baby food, but be back to my normal self, hopefully.
Plus: My Speech Pathologist said I had a normal swallow and this was most likely from the thrush and would see what was pending from the endoscopy (turning out to be reflux esophagitis). Having both of those at the same is not fun, but if you were or are in a situation like me, there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel and TAKE YOUR MEDICATION. The feeling that I mainly feel now in my throat is excess saliva/snot.
I’m on solutab (PPI), fluconazole, and anxiety medication (I won’t share which one)
UPDATE: I was able to CHEW both salmon and tuna and swallow without an issue, not really needing water. I guess my swallowing (well it’s always been fine according to testing and etc) is finally healing and I’ll be back to eating like normal in no time!

I was diagnosed with gerd a few months ago and recently had an upper endoscopy done. I was admitted to the hospital for a few days because I have trouble swallowing solids, which came out of nowhere. My barium swallow was normal, besides mild acid reflux, and endoscopy was normal. I still have trouble with solids, but I still have thrush and not on PPI’s at the moment. I think I found my answer? Also, the speech pathologist in the hospital said my swallowing seemed normal and I was able to chew and swallow correctly, with water. I was able to swallow fine before I got sick. So, less likely a motility issue?
Hi all,
About three weeks ago, I lost the ability to swallow solids and was diagnosed with oral thrush. Since then, I’ve been mostly living on ensure plus and water. Had a little bit of yogurt yesterday. I was admitted to the hospital for a few days and the barium swallow found nothing except mild acid reflux and my endoscopy was normal, but they took a biopsy and results are pending. I also saw a speech pathologist and they said my swallowing looked normal when I had a piece of graham cracker and pretzel. Is it possible they just didn’t see the oral thrush in the endoscopy and the biopsy will show the answer? Also, when I sneeze, it makes my throat feel weird. My doctors said it’s most likely from the oral thrush and maybe a bit of anxiety. I love food and just want to eat food again.
Is this normal? I don’t really feel any chest pain (more like gas, because I did have an endoscopy done two days ago) or my heart racing (only a little, because of my anxiety). My heart rate is 77, my blood oxygen is 98% and the ecg on my Apple Watch says normal. I have medical anxiety. I was literally discharged from the hospital yesterday and I really do not want to go back. It’s 40 mg, but have to take 2.5 ml which is 100 mg.

Is this normal?
I was diagnosed with thrush yesterday and started using the wash. I started having difficulty swallowing solids (and now soft foods) last Thursday (out of nowhere) and since then, I have been living on ensure. I don’t really have any pain, just a little burning here and there. I have GERD and GI issues. I am having an endoscopy on Tuesday. I’m just frustrated and nervous. Has it spread? I’m unsure if I had this for a while, I didn’t really notice the thrush or think about it until Wednesday. I’m a 22 f, so I really think the GERD and GI issues caused this. I don’t have cancer nor diabetes and have never been active.
