Anyone had luck dealing with property damaging birds?

For awhile I didn't know this was happening, since it was pecking at a different part of my houses siding. On the inspection report it was noted as carpenter bee damage so I presumed thats what it was.

However now that the bird has moved to the side of the house that my bedroom is on its driving me crazy in addition to the annoyance of the peck holes in the siding.

Every now and then usually in the afternoon to early evening, there will be a repetitious tapping noise that will go on for ages unless I go to the window open it and yell. Then I'll see the bird swoop off from the side of my house. However to my extreme annoyance, especially if I am trying to sleep, it will often be back in minutes until the process is repeated.

I've tried walking out to hit it with something but it always flys away as soon as I am close.

Anyone had luck with dealing with this kind of thing? It seems much trickier than dealing with rodents.

I believe I have all the pieces I need for the ending I'm going for- Is there anything I should do before finishing the game/can I boot back up from the save I was on?

If I am not mistaken I have all the offerings for each of the astrologers and was told to go get the roof key. I don't have it yet so maybe there is going to be more to do, but assuming this triggers the end of the game, is there anything else you recommend doing before ending the game? And can I just boot up my save from before the end?

A certain painter not giving me a reward?

I just did the Frederic quest and am quite confident I killed everything he needed me to- But he just has generic dialogue now the same as before? Is it a story essential item he gives or am I just screwed out of some money/gear?

Do most decisions need to be made "properly" the first you encounter them?

Enjoying the game so far, but I have encountered some early game decisions that I cannot later explore.

I ran into a man with a rat who wanted a sandwich to give his help, so since I obviously didn't have one on me, I made one that night to bring to him the next day, only for him to not offer his help.

The rat child I cannot go back and pick up, and Joel seems unrecruitable even though I was friendly. Am I missing something? Particularly with the first two.

I stupidly spilled tequila on my MacBook. How likely is it that it’s fried/how should I proceed

I very stupidly spilled tequila on my MacBook. Because I was in such a state, I don’t actually know if the MacBook was powered on, since the following morning when I cleaned it up and flipped it over since it was upside down on the floor, it just displayed the symbol to plug it in, which I did not do since I know it’s supposed to be kept off.
I opened up the bottom of it, and surprisingly there didn’t seem to be too much infiltration there, but I cleaned what little was there and have left it opened to air out and dry for the last two days.
After one more day of letting it air out to be extra safe I was going to see about powering it back on. How likely is it that it’s fried? And is there anything else I should do? Thanks!

Does seeing a roach always mean a larger presence? I believe I've seen two over the course of seven years

I know with a lot of pests they always say if you see one, that theres a host of them.

However for the first three years of owning my house I saw one(I believe it was a baby or wood roach, not a professional though) and then afterwards saw nothing until 4 years later.

Are there ever just aberrant roaches or is there almost always a larger presence, and would they even be capable of being so stealthy if so?

Definitely have a slow leak, how would you proceed?

Hey all. Around three years ago I had no hot air blowing, and had an HVAC guy add coolant, which resolved the issue until now.

It's abundantly clear there is a slow leak, but when I asked about fixing it last time I remember it was pretty expensive to get fixed and he made it sound uncertain as well.

I am debating on if it makes more sense to A. Try and do the fix. or B. Keep refilling every couple years until the system is replaced. I don't know the exact age of the unit but I assume it's 15 year or so at this point.

Also, maybe a silly question, but does coolant leak even when the system isn't in use? Just wondering if I should only fill it partially considering summer is almost over.

Nearly finished installing a toilet, but overtightened on one side. Attempted to re do it, but toilet is wobbly, what can I do?

Hey all, I thought I was in the home stretch, but when tightening the right nut on the toilet, I hard a noise and then it became loose. I took off the toilet, examined it expecting to see a cracked flange but it was intact. I attempted to put the toilet back on, but now it's still wobbly and I am afraid of over tightening yet again. How would you proceed?

Edit: I rushed back to Home Depot before they closed, got a reinforced wax ring, and full sent it- I seem to have got a seal, and its in the right spot(if I push or pull forward or back it doesnt move, but side force wiggles it a bit. The toilet is functional and not leaking water, at this point would you just use shims to prevent the wiggling? Also if there is a problem, how obvious would it be already in terms of water spilling out? To be clear about the severity of the wiggling, its not noticeable when sitting but is when deliberately wiggling it or sitting.

What degree of wax do you really need to remove from the flange?

I’ve been using the putty knife and wipes for awhile and some just won’t come off, and there’s some debris in the crevices- is this sufficient or does more need to go?

As per people’s recommendation, I replaced my stop valves guts and handle, however the stem is longer than the previous, is it a problem?

Hey all- just swapped out the guts and handle of my stop valves, however the stem comes out way further than the previous one. Is this a problem for functionality? Or only a cosmetic issue? Thanks!

Got all the tools and supplies for a stop valve replacement, but someone pointed out it’s soldered on? Confused on how to proceed

I gassed myself up to do the whole thing DIY, but I posted in another thread and someone said it looked like this was a soldered sleeve and that my compression might not work?
My main concern is starting the project and then hitting a catastrophic road block that keeps the water off for an extended period for the other residents.
If this is indeed soldered on, what are my options? Or should I just swap the toilet and forget the stop valve? It’s not leaking, just nonfunctional…

u/burnerofc123 — 1 month ago

Going to DIY swap my stop valve and toilet- Specially for the valve is there anything that could go wrong or that I should know?

I had hired a plumber but they no showed so I took it as a cosmic sign to just do it myself since I know its not the hardest job in the world. I've been watching tutorials, but my one concern is the valve, since until thats replaced the houses water will have to be off and other people live here. I plan on doing it at night to give myself the most time, and once the valve is on and closed I can get the water back on and not need to rush the rest.

I've bought sandpaper, a pipe wrench, and the special ferrule removal tool. As said I have watched tutorials, but I am wondering if there is anything I should look out for, or that could provide unforeseen difficulties that would hinder getting the valve swapped. Thanks!

One of the unsung triumphs of Sorcery is how great its booster boxes are

As in the literal box itself. But coming from magic, the aesthetic of the Arthurian legends box, and the feel and functional use of the Gothic box really impress. Admittedly the beta box is pretty standard but it was the games first outing.

Definitely makes you feel better to have dropped that much $ when you are opening something that you don't immediately jam in the trash.

Recommendations for a seasoned MV player?

Heyo- Metroidvanias are kind of my comfort game but as a result I have played an absolute load of them. I'll attempt to conjure up a list(though I might forget a few), but am curious if there are any worthwhile ones I missed based off the ones I liked/disliked.

Great/good ones I've played:

Hollow Knight - Silksong - Mio - Ori 1 and 2 - Nine Sons - Blasphemous 1 and 2 - Prince of Persia - Metroid dread - Deaths gambit(what a redemption arc this game had)-

Mid/Bad ones:

Grime 1 and 2(though 2 was way better), Constance(a solid attempt, but felt a little undercooked), Last faith(the rare metroidvania I absolutely hate, felt like a really bad blasphemous), salt and sanctuary, ender lilies and the sequel, mandragora

How dangerous is leaving rat poison in just the attic if theres cats in the house

So I don't really know what to do- My attic is a service attic only, so really even getting into it to deal with the mice I hear up there is tricky. My solution was to leave some rat poison up in the attic which is utterly sealed off from the rest of the house(in a rooms closet, past a screwed shut entry panel), so the cats would have no direct access.

While the cats do hunt any mice foolish enough to enter the house, that is pretty rare, and even when they do, they don't actually eat them.

However I thought I would check in with people with experience. Again, there is no poison in the area with the cats.

My friend has stupidly exposed themselves to scammers, how to do a full reset?

This will sound preposterous, but my friend has been giving money to Nigerians and being brutally scammed. I have set tomorrow as a day to reset all of their information. Is there anything people can think of that would be a good idea during the process? Planning on remaking his email and all accounts it's tied to. His WhatsApp is compromised, is there any particular way to go about remaking that?

Kind of at a loss but something has to give.

Edge of the air intake of central air is dripping water semi steadily

Hey all, I've owned my house 7 years and for the first time have a weird issue. At the edge of the intake there is a steady drip of water. Kind of near the bottom left part of whats pictured here. Of note, the actual interior itself, and the tube does not seem to be wet at all.

I have a brand new roof, and it is not raining so anything related to that is doubtful.

There is no piping with water above it so that is not a factor either.

Things that could be a factor is that while not too hot, it's been rather humid today.

I've turned off the unit for the time being, any tips would be appreciated.

Whats a fun/good dex weapon to compliment my throwing knives?

so far I have just been using throwing knives since they really are quite solid, but I want to mix it up. Whats a good dex weapon that would fit the bill for closer encounters? Want to know before investing the materials.

Need to do some roof work and saw what I presume to be a queen trying to start up a nest. What should I do?

Just need to clean my gutters and saw what I assume to be a queen next to a little baby nest. Shot my last bit of raid at it and assumed it was resolved and now saw it nestling into my bathroom vent where there had been a wasp nest I went to war with a previous year. I blasted it with a direct couple shots of bleach since I was out of raid. Hoping that finished it off but if not what can I do to stop this before the ball gets rolling? If they do set up in the vent is there something I can do from the inside to deal with them?

Fuck wasps.
