Heartbroken

I don't really know how to put this into words.
I had an online friend from Karachi. She was 19 and deaf. Despite everything she had been through, she was one of the strongest people I knew.

She lived in a very abusive household, mainly because of her father. During university, she fell in love with a classmate, and from everything she shared with me, they genuinely loved each other. The guy even approached her father to ask for her hand in marriage, but he was immediately rejected. After that, her family pulled her out of university and continued treating her terribly.

She stayed in touch with the guy despite everything. One day she told me, "Dupatta kamzor tha, warna main aaj yahan na hoti." That sentence has stayed with me ever since. She often spoke about not wanting to continue living. We didn't talk every day, but whenever we did, I always tried to encourage her and told her to stay strong.

Eventually, she decided to move out. She worked remotely, had saved enough money, and felt she could finally live on her own. When she told her father, his response was simply, "Dafa ho jao, I don't care." The same guy helped her move places.

After that, we gradually lost touch.
Today, I received a message saying that she is no longer alive that she o***dos*d on sleeping pills. I don't even know how to process it. Soon after, her account was deactivated, and I have no way of contacting anyone close to her or confirming anything beyond that message. That message was from her friend and she said she cannot speak much about this:)

I'm attaching screenshots of our conversations.
She deserved so much better than the life she was given.
May she finally find the peace she was searching for.

Be your own company

Lately, I’ve noticed so many people canceling plans just because no one wanted to go with them.

Go anyway. Watch the movie, go for the run, grab a coffee, treat yourself to a nice meal, go shopping, visit that place you've been wanting to see, or just take a walk with your favorite playlist.

Stop waiting for others to make your plans happen. Some of the best moments come when you learn to enjoy your own company.

You’re enough!!!

First 5k ever

Last time I ran was back in 2018, and that was only 400m. Today, at 21, I completed my first 5K. Not my best run, but I'm happy with it considering it was my first attempt after years. Felt great to be back out there.

The only mistake was going too hard in the first kilometer (sub-5 min pace) and completely burning myself out. Lesson learned.

Any tips for the next one?

Corporate life

Don’t get me wrong, I am extremely grateful, but can we please talk about how shit corporate life is?
The endless meetings, office politics, fake urgency, buzzwords, and people pretending to be productive.

Karachiites who travel by bike

Do you carry your iPhone with you when you're out riding, or do you prefer leaving it at home (assuming you have an android as a backup)?

Scuba diving

I'm planning to go scuba diving at Charna Island next Saturday or Sunday. Is anyone interested in joining? It would be great to go as a group.

Help

Help:(

I'm only 21, but I have noticeable bald spots across my scalp, and my hair has become extremely thin with almost no volume. It feels as fine as a newborn baby's hair, making it difficult to style or create any hairstyle. I'm really concerned about the thinning and would appreciate advice on how to improve my hair health and regrowth

For context:

Went to a dermatologist and he said “since you don’t have hair fall, everything else seems fine and you can’t grow back the hair that are gone”

Motivation for future affiliates

Hey everyone,
A few years ago, I was a clueless 17-year-old from Pakistan who started ACCA right after 10th grade without even knowing what accounting really was. I asked countless questions, and this community was always there to help me out, so I'm genuinely grateful for that.

Fast forward to today: I passed all 17 exams (including FIA) in just 1 year and 9 months and became an ACCA affiliate at 18 in March 2024. Now, at 20, I'm working in the Deals Advisory department of a Big 4 firm and have also cleared two levels of the CFA program.

The reason I'm sharing this is simple: when you're in the middle of the journey, it's easy to wonder whether all the hard work, sacrifices, and late nights will actually be worth it. Trust me, I had those same doubts.

But one day, everything starts making sense. The effort compounds, opportunities come, and you realize that every hour you invested was building your future.
Keep going. Stay consistent. Even when it feels like you're not making progress, your efforts are counting. You don't need to have everything figured out today, just focus on taking the next step.

If a clueless 17-year-old kid could do it, so can you.

Obsession

Looks like peer pressure won, and I’ve decided to watch Obsession! Is anyone available today or Sunday? We could book tickets, watch the movie together, and head out for dinner afterward.

What went wrong?

The first photo was taken when I was 19 and the second is from just before turning 21. About 1.5 years ago, I moved to Karachi and started working. Since then, I’ve been commuting daily on a bike, which exposed me to a lot of dust, pollution, and sun. Over time, I developed severe acne, acne scars, and pigmentation, and I’ve noticed a significant change in my skin tone and overall skin condition. I’m looking for advice on how I can improve my skin, reduce the acne marks, and regain a healthier, more even complexion.
