METU NCC (ODTÜ KKK)

I've seen many posts here where people suggest EMU as the best uni in North Cyprus... but I haven't seen any posts on METU NCC. Is it because it's technically s turkish uni and not really a northern cyprus uni, it's just located there? I got into METU NCC with a 100% scholarship but I want to make sure it's the right choice... engineering btw

the program is ABET accredited and graduates also get some EUROPASS thing. So I will not be facing any issues at all anywhere in the world when applying for jobs or masters right? The only exceptions being Greece, Unoccupied Cyprus and Armenia?

I saw a new article a few days ago about Morocco suddenly not recognising north cyprus issued degrees, which scared me a bit... but does that only apply to degrees issued in north cyprus? Metu NCC degrees are issued and stamped in Ankara, turkey and signed by the same rector of METU. The degree is also attested in Turkey for equivalency process, so can I safely say I will not be facing any issues?

And I saw some comments mentioning how students are scammed because all unis offer a 50% scholarship in North Cyprus as a marketing tactic... which maybe true but metu has given me a 100% scholarship coz I march the criteria specified in their website clearly. What benefit will they get by giving me a full ride, so does that mean the "50% scholarship for everyone" thing only applies to certain unis which pretend like they're giving scholarship when they're actually charging the normal fees

Where to buy Mountain Bikes or Electric scooters?

I am going to be travelling to occupied cyprus for the first time this fall for university (METU NCC) and I want to buy a MTN bike or an e scooter for traveling within the cities. Where can I find used bikes, can anyone suggest some places and around how much will it cost to buy one? are there any websites, forums or apps through which I can buy used stuff?

thank you!

Future of Mechanical Engineering in the UAE

I am going to be starting uni this fall and I genuinely have a passion towards engineering, especially the mechanical aspects of it. In school I've always found mechanics very interesting and math was never an issue for me when I started to understand how things work, it just made sense.

I am going to be going to a university abroad (ranked 300 overall and ranked 130 for MechE, globally) but the country is a remote area where I will not find any internships or job opportunities during uni and after graduation so I plan on coming back to the UAE every summer for internships and then later for entry level jobs. I am going there for uni because it's ranked high and is much cheaper overall with the scholarship I got + living costs, compared to just tuition fees alone if I chose to study here instead.

I haven't really chosen what exact industry I want to go in, I am leaning more towards aerospace since I've always been interested in that, but I haven't fully committed to it (which is why i chose mechanical instead of aerospace... so that I can explore multiple industries before going into one).

However recently I came across many Reddit posts online of students and graduates asking about engineering internships and jobs in the UAE and salaries for fresh grads, and almost all of them have a bunch of negative comments saying that it's almost impossible for a fresh graduate to get a job here and if you do find one, you'll only make 2k a month etc etc. The same goes for internships. This has discouraged me alot even tho I don't see myself majoring in any other fields, even after exploring tons of fields. I wanted to post this to ask if this is genuinely the case here and is it truly not possible to land a decent entry level ME job that pays decently? Will it be almost impossible to find internships here too?

The reason I haven't fully committed to aerospace is because, even though there are many aerospace opportunities here, I keep seeing info online that such roles are only reserved for locals. I am a Sri Lankan student however, lived all my life in the UAE, and I plan on working here for a few years before moving elsewhere for masters. UAE has pretty much been my home and I finished school here too.

I wanted to post this to ask whether everything online is a little exaggerated and it isn't that horrible? We're going to be investing alot of money into my education and it's making me really uneasy as we've already reserved a uni and I am now preparing for starting uni in 2 months, I don't want to regret choosing this path just because I am passionate about it if it doesnt have any ROI.

I do understand that there will be a large number of mech eng graduates alongside me in the UAE in 4 years (2030ish)... that's expected with all the fields and I can't just expect to land a job within 3 months or so. But the number of negative comments I've read on Reddit about salaries being 2k - 3k and how even those roles are impossible to find, is frightening me alot...Is it truly that bad?

To all current mech engineers out there, what are some skills I should plan on gaining during university to stand out among other graduates?

When and How should I apply for internships in the UAE, is there a specific timeline I've got to look out for?

What are some good, decent paying industries that I should consider looking into once I graduate as a ME? I haven't really committed to a specific industry as I want to keep my options open since my interests can change change during uni..which is another reason why I picked ME as I can go into automotive, energy, hvac and more.

I am looking forward to an answer from Mechanical Engineers or other knowledgeable people in the UAE who can guide me, thanks alot for reading!

How to prep for mech eng

I'm gonna start mech eng this fall so I've got exactly 2 months of free time to prepare for uni. I did ask chatgpt what I should do but I figured it's probably better to ask here instead.

I wanna use these 2 months to begin learning in advance, like the harder classes etc. so that I can ease into the classes alot better... especially since I'm gonna be moving to another country alone for the first time.

I'm trying to target a high gpa as I've got to maintain a 3.6+ to keep my scholarship and many students told me to try and get a very high gpa in the first year so that it makes it easier tor the other years.

Here are my first 2 semester curriculum for reference ↕️

AURAK or METU NCC

I've gotten into AURAK and also into Middle East Technical University (Northern Cyprus Campus) for mechanical engineering. I have gotten a scholarship at both universities and since I live in the UAE and my dad will sponsor my visa, so there is only the cost of tuition. When you compare the total cost of living + tuition + dorms at METU NCC with AURAK's cost, it's almost the same.

However I've got to decide which university I want to go for. METU NCC is a large Campus and is under the main campus in Ankara, turkey. METU NCC is located in Northern Cyprus, which is not internationally recognized by any country except turkey. It's part of Cyprus which is now sort of taken by turkey but it does have it's own government etc but only turkey recognises it as a country.

But since the degree is from turkey, people say it won't create problems... but the degree will have the text (northern cyprus campus) on it, which is making me second guess going there. Especially since I plan on finishing the degree and coming back to the UAE as NCC doesn't give any time to find jobs there or in turkey like in Europe, so I'm worried if UAE will accept the degree or not. Studying at AURAK won't cause these issues cause it's accredited by the UAE, Abet (USA) and some other UK accreditation. METU NCC however is accredited by YOK (turkey), YODAK (Northern Cyprus) and also ABET.

The benefits of studying at AURAK instead would be that the uni provides internship opportunities for students, plus there are many companies in the UAE for students to intern at. METU NCC is located in a very remote area with almost no internship opportunities so I will have to try for internships in either turkey (which will cost alot coz of visa, ticket, accomodation, living costs). I could come back to the UAE during the summer and try here instead but won't there be alot of students already in UAE unis who are also applying, which makes it more competitive and won't they be given more priority? The university doesn't directly help with internships like AURAK does

I'm open to suggestions or any advices that'll help me make my decision. I've still got like 2 weeks to decide on one and pay the reservation fees btw.

iPhone 17 PM vs S26U

In terms of camera and UI, which phone is better?

is it true that the 17 pro max's camera is wayyy better than the S26U.

And uh the ui, although Samsung has way more features, iPhone's UI looks much better to me... but honestly idk if it's that big of a deal. I need to get a phone before starting college so I'm having a hard time picking one.

I'm currently using a 2023 Samsung A05 btw ☠️

but I am a hardcore user and I tend to use every feature on my phone, so s26u having more features seem to be the better option...but I plan to use the cameras alot too so people saying the s26u's camera is bad makes me second guess.

WHAT'S IS A HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA?

I did IGCSEs (grade 10) and AS (grade 11) and now I'm waiting on my final IAL grades that's gonna come in August.

I'm applying to a university that's based on turkey but they require students to get their "high school diploma" attested by the Turkish embassy before travelling to the uni. I emailed them back saying that I completed my high school studies under the Pearson Edexcel curriculum and I don't have any such singular high school diplomas. But they replied with the same email to upload high school diplomas and transcripts.

I've got plenty of time till August tho but I really want to get this cleared out now itself so that I can atleast get my IGCSE and AS certificates attested for now.

has anyone faced this issue before? is a high school diploma in this case basically all 3 documents combined?

Part-time jobs during the summer?

I'm 17 years old and I've got like 3 months before uni starts and I wanna make some money and save up for stuff I'll be needing for uni like clothes etc without having to ask my parents.

I've got real no work experience tho, mostly just volunteering.

Can I secure any parttime roles here that require no experience (in Sharjah)?

It doesn't have to be alot, and I'd prefer part-time because I'm currently spending my remaining days studying and learning new skills.

(If this is useful): I'm skilled at video editing and social media management and I've been running a YouTube channel for like 6 years so I'm pretty experienced at it. But I'm unable to find roles online, it's mostly just random fake 'remote' jobs that I see on LinkedIn which I applied to weeks ago and never heard back from them

AURAK uni schedule

hi guys, i recently got accepted to aurak and i got sent my schedule. i noticed that i have classes monday to friday, and i live in sharjah so im gonna have to use the free bus that aur gives to go to uni and come back home everyday.

the thing is, the bus timings are kinda weird 😭 like on friday i only have 1 class, but ill still have to wait till 5:45 for the bus back home because the 2:00 bus doesnt really drop in sharjah, it drops at the rak bus stop. so id basicaly be waiting around in uni for hours for no reason 😭

i just wanted to ask if its possible to change the schedule a bit or maybe make it 4 days a week instead? or maybe change the timings if thats allowed.

thank youu

How many days per week of uni/college do you guys have?

I js finished high school and I am tryna understand how uni works. I got into an american uni in the middle east and apparently it follows an american sort of curriculum method, whatever that means.

Everyone who is currently at uni, how many days do u guys have uni for, per week? Do we get to choose what classes we go to a day and can I like change my schedule. The uni i got into gave me a schedule of 17 credit hours for the first sem. Ive got 5 classes a day (mon to fri) but it's weird how I have ONE class on friday and then I've got to wait till 5pm to go home by bus (the uni is an hour away from my home and the uni provides free transport)

Is it normal to go to uni 5 days a week, i thought its lower than that 😿

Khalifa University Physics Entrance Exam

I did Edexcel IAL so I wanna know from another A Level student who took the test about how it's like. How is the test like and the difficulty etc.

Also is it true that engineering degrees don't get a 75% scholarship option? That's kinda odd and was kinda disappointing so I want to know if that's just bs. I saw a comment from some person on Reddit so idk.

WHY AM I NOT GETTING STUDENTS

I have been trying to get some students and begin tutoring (Grades 3 to 8) + (grade 9 & 10 Edexcel IGCSE) but literally noone has texted me. I sent the same advert in like 5 6 groups and still no luck. Am I doing something wrong

I am charging only 100 AED for 4 one hour classes btww. Others are charging like 50 to 70...

Is SRH good for BEng in Mechanical Engineering

I am a student coming from the UAE and I'm looking to pursuing my undergrad in germany. All the public universities in germany teach ME in german only except one (HAW Hamburg) but their intake is in April and application begins in October but I unfortunately cannot wait till then. Can anyone who studied their please give me an insight to how the university is like, and if the quality of education is decent?
