Jaani Dushman: Ek Anokhi Kahani was a massive box-office disaster back in 2002, but those endless TV reruns turned it into a genuine childhood staple for our generation.
It has the craziest ensemble casts of the era - Sunny Deol, Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Manisha Koirala, Arshad Warsi, Aftab Shivdasani and even Sonu nigam.
Rajkumar Kohli made his final film with massive sets and heavy VFX investment that was heavily hyped as
"groundbreaking" for Bollywood at the time.
The whole reincarnation-cursed lovers plot with a big massive snake spirit exacting vengeance felt completely bonkers and unique. Those transformation scenes and over-the-top supernatural sequences looks epic even now (and are gloriously meme-worthy now). The music by Anand-Milind and Anand Raaj Anand was catchy as hell too.
Arshad Warsi has even called it a cult classic in hindsight and joked about smiling during his own death scene because the shoot was that much fun.
Looking back, this is the perfect example of a theatrical flop that found its real audience on the small screen and earned legit cult status. Way more entertaining at home than it ever was in cinemas.
