Should I get a robot vacuum or not?
TL;DR: ....should i get a robot vacuum or not?
It's the kind of thing I would have scoffed at for laziness. i'm a bit of a cheapskate about these things and it seems like a waste of money. my apartment is beyond tiny. i have a cat and have heard plenty of horror stories of roombas tracking pet poop around the floor. why, pray tell, would i need one?
my reasons:
- i am depressed, burnt out, and every time i come home to my house all dusty with cat hair and cat litter scattered everywhere i want to cry. i know it technically should only take like 20-30 min to sweep my entire house but it feels like a neverending mandala of effort, like i just sweep it and it's immediately dirty again. (it may be relevant that i have ocd, although am on meds lolol - i'm the kind of ocd person who doesn't live in a clean freak house but rather, lives in a complete dump because i'm too grossed out to clean it sometimes)
- i would have carpets so i don't track as much outside dust and dirt in my house, but my territorial-ass cat pees on every doormat/carpet i buy, so i can't
- i have an air purifier but my house is still somehow dusty and filled with cat hair (my cat is longhaired and very fluffy and constantly shedding, it seems)
- my cat is bored/lonely and hates other cats, so i wonder if a robot vacuum would incidentally entertain her (her favorite toys currently that i turn on when i leave the house are a robot rotating laser cat thingy that i call her boyfriend and a robot mouse, haha, so i feel like she might enjoy a roomba)
- it would motivate me to keep my floor decluttered, tbh
reasons not to:
- i hear they're not as effective as you'd think
- overpriced (altho i'd probably try to find a used one on fbm or cl)
- the classic "poop smearing" pet owner nightmares
if you've ever had a robot vacuum---was it worth it? or am i just delusionally hoping for an easy fix to a problem that is better solved by willpower and elbow grease
