Should I get a robot vacuum or not?

TL;DR: ....should i get a robot vacuum or not?

It's the kind of thing I would have scoffed at for laziness. i'm a bit of a cheapskate about these things and it seems like a waste of money. my apartment is beyond tiny. i have a cat and have heard plenty of horror stories of roombas tracking pet poop around the floor. why, pray tell, would i need one?

my reasons:

  1. i am depressed, burnt out, and every time i come home to my house all dusty with cat hair and cat litter scattered everywhere i want to cry. i know it technically should only take like 20-30 min to sweep my entire house but it feels like a neverending mandala of effort, like i just sweep it and it's immediately dirty again. (it may be relevant that i have ocd, although am on meds lolol - i'm the kind of ocd person who doesn't live in a clean freak house but rather, lives in a complete dump because i'm too grossed out to clean it sometimes)
  2. i would have carpets so i don't track as much outside dust and dirt in my house, but my territorial-ass cat pees on every doormat/carpet i buy, so i can't
  3. i have an air purifier but my house is still somehow dusty and filled with cat hair (my cat is longhaired and very fluffy and constantly shedding, it seems)
  4. my cat is bored/lonely and hates other cats, so i wonder if a robot vacuum would incidentally entertain her (her favorite toys currently that i turn on when i leave the house are a robot rotating laser cat thingy that i call her boyfriend and a robot mouse, haha, so i feel like she might enjoy a roomba)
  5. it would motivate me to keep my floor decluttered, tbh

reasons not to:

  1. i hear they're not as effective as you'd think
  2. overpriced (altho i'd probably try to find a used one on fbm or cl)
  3. the classic "poop smearing" pet owner nightmares

if you've ever had a robot vacuum---was it worth it? or am i just delusionally hoping for an easy fix to a problem that is better solved by willpower and elbow grease

Songs with self deprecating swagger

In the midst of a self esteem journey and the corny self love songs just don't do it for me. What seems to get me feeling myself, my true guilty pleasure, is sorta wry, sarcastic songs about proudly being a loser/wretch

See: "punk rock loser" by viagra boys, "doin' all right" by the fugs, "wake bake skate" by fidlar, "loser" by Beck, a lot of alex cameron's oeuvre (lol) etc.....

Got any more for me? Genre preference for rock, punk, alternative, 90s rap, generally weird shit

Edit: if this helps I'm in my mid 30s so my blind spot tends to be most things after 2015 lol

Edit 2: omg I didn't expect so many recs, imma be dancing like buffalo bill in the mirror to these

Alternatives to replacing this zipper?

So a while back I made this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/sewing/comments/1mz46k6/this_used_skirt_turned_out_to_be_a_good_12_sizes/

TL;DR: i thrifted a used pencil skirt that ended up being 2 sizes too big (bought at a flea market so i couldn't try it on before buying), but was too difficult to modify so I just wore it as is. I also gained a few pounds so while it is still loose, it's wearable and now more like 1 size too big haha.

WELL, the zipper just broke off this week, unfixably so (one of the zipper teeth broke off) so I surgically removed the zipper. Now I have this golden opportunity to change something and make the skirt fit me even better, right? Not sure what to do though.

I could always buy another zipper but curious if there's an easier option (i don't have a zipper foot on my sewing machine), and in particular a way to take it in like half an inch or so....?

Does anyone else's cat do this?

She has a second, larger, analog litter box and does this there too (peeing in one end and then turning around and pooping in the other direction). If she could speak English i would try to show her the logic of - hear me out - using one box for pee and one box for poop. But here we are

Creative storage ideas for a narrow/small house?

I'm a person with an approximately 1,300 sq. ft. townhouse who is admittedly a bit of a pack rat and loves my belongings. I don't have any specific "collections," but I just own a lot of.... stuff. (records, books, movies, vintage cameras, vintage clothing, antiques, toys, art pieces, and also miscellaneous functional stuff---gadgets, tools, crafting materials, etc)

But, my house is 100+ years old and has lath and plaster walls so it's been almost impossible to mount any kind of shelving (I just feel like the plaster crumbles out into dust around any hole and/or anchor i put into the wall). because of this, i am constantly stressing over all my belongings, things gathering dust, moving stuff around to clean, clutter from things i don't use daily but use occasionally (e.g. tools, sewing machine stuff, baking equipment, etc) that doesn't really have a home and just floats from desk to table to bookshelf to counter etc.

Does anyone have ideas for how to reconcile packrat sensibilities with a tiny, narrow and somewhat vertically-challenged space (due to the difficulty of mounting shelves that bear any kind of weight)?

Which thank you bag design should I get?

unserious q, but fantasizing about my next ink--- many years ago I got a tat on the back of my left arm that looks like a shopping bag saying "Thank You Thank You Thank You Have a Nice Day; "I want to get a complementary one on the back of my other arm, but I can't decide if I want the rose or the smiley face. Thoughts?

edit: in case it's not clear, the first photo is me. that's my tattoo. looking for a second and different one to complement it!

Only the best polo shirt I've ever had --- butter soft, no idea of brand -- help me find another one?

Was vintage/thrifted, butter soft threadbare, kinda 70sish, and I wore it until it disintegrated completely. Label removed, brand unknown. I miss this thing!! They don't make dagger collars like this these days

The dumbest smartphone with the best camera?

edit: country is US!

New to this sub, fully prepared for what I'm looking for to be a pipe dream, but really admittedly noobish about mobile phones so i'm curious what y'all can suggest.

currently have a motorola g because it was the free option when i got a new phone carrier in 2023.

before that, i had an iphone 5 from 2015-2023, and before that, a motorola razr from 2008 to 2015.

only reason i got an iphone in 2015 is that was around the time they'd become so common my work started needing smartphone type things (like checking my email from my phone, etc)

the things i like about having a smartphone:

  • having a portable digital camera on me at all times. unfortunately, my moto g has a shitty camera whose output is reminiscent of my old dumbphones haha
  • GPS
  • listening to music (which is why i never upgraded from an iphone 5 since they took away the headphone jack)

things i dislike:

  • AI constantly prompting me to try to change things about my phone/interface/usage (idk if this is just a motorola thing, a google/android thing, or what, but i keep trying to disable any kind of AI or "assistant" prompts and yet it keeps doing it)
  • proprietary software/hardware (why i don't have an iphone anymore)
  • planned obsolescence
  • fragility (i miss how i could drop my brick phone down a flight of stairs and not worry about the screen lol)
  • typing/swiping (i miss qwerty keyboard buttons but this one in particular is a losing battle, i don't think we're ever getting physical keyboard phone back lol)

basically, i wish i had a phone that had a higher quality camera but i don't really care about ANYTHING else and wish it would be as minimal/non-invasive as possible. if i could just get a "dumbphone" i would but my work makes me use various apps and stuff (authenticators etc) so it's gotta be a smartphone alas

Any ideas?

SIGH, Back to the tried-and-true Bin Method

Mostly just posting this to hold MYSELF accountable lol, my mental health has been.... brutal and my house, a wreck.

was doing okay albeit a bit cluttered but then the last month due to a combination of (1) being incredibly busy, (2) intense trauma therapy that has thrashed my nervous system, (3) my no-contact ex popping up without warning at a concert i played and triggering some deep seated family trauma, and (4) a slide into freeze mode and unfettered neurodivergence, my house is SUFFERING and looks like a hurricane hit it.

whenever this happens i have to set aside some time (requested a mental health day off work friday because i also work this weekend SIGH) and do the Bin Method which is where i

  1. summon a giant plastic bin
  2. take everything off every surface in my cluttered/dirty-ass room and put it in the bin
  3. clean surfaces and floors
  4. go through the bin to either put things in their place if they belong in that room, another room if that's where they belong, or in the trash / donation pile
  5. take the bin to the next room and repeat

i used to have a really good friend in my old city who would sit on my bed and crack the whip to keep my adhd in check if i got distracted from cleaning, but now i'mma have to be my own accountability buddy because i live like 2500 miles away from them now ๐Ÿ˜ญ

wish me luck friends, if you have any additional tips and tricks you've learned over time i'd love to hear them! i mostly struggle with staying on task and not succumbing to overwhelm and bedrotting
