Sometimes there's a man... I won't say a hero, 'cause, what's a hero? But sometimes, there's a man. And I'm talkin' about the dude who ran down the Flock surveillance system in Putnam here. Sometimes there's a man, well, he's the man for his time and place. He fits right in there.

The history of French burnt peanuts is spotty, but they appear to be an American evolution of Jordan almonds via German candied almonds (Gebrannte Mandeln) that substituted the peanut for the almond. The French burnt peanut (not French at all) begat the Boston baked bean and thence one of the most important confectionary inventions of the 20th century: Peanut M&M's in 1954.

Anyway, I like them.

I'm not a younger person, so it was fun to have only learned today that the ruby-throated hummingbird will feed and nest high up in conifers.

I live in Southern New England in the US. We have a Norway Spruce tree on our property that is roughly 40 feet tall.

This afternoon, I heard a crow high in the tree and was looking for it when I noticed several hummingbirds elsewhere near the treetop, flitting about the ends of the branches. I have observed ruby-throated hummingbirds at our window a few times over the years but assumed that they were passing by, since we have no flowers particularly suited to them.

How wonderful to see the hummers up in the tree and to confirm that this is a normal behavior for them that I had never known until now. I will be on the lookout for more of them when I pass this tree.

This sort of slang is a relatively recent phenomenon, appearing in the last 10 years. Not content to let dog people go on about their "doggos" and "fur babies," influencers and content creators spread other odious terms for different types of animals to horn in on the act, exploit the algorithms, and get those sweet, sweet likes and shares. The impressionable picked up these "cute" and "playful" terms and spread them like parasitic explosive diarrhea.
