Singing Praises for Our Former Night Nanny (she has some last-minute availability)

Hi all. I'd like to recommend our wonderful night nanny, Beverley, who we used for the first 2 months of our son’s life. She recently had a last-minute cancellation and is currently available until October; she's also taking future jobs.

Beverley M was a kind, loving, and knowledgeable presence in our house. Her expertise and reliability allowed us not only to sleep but to more deeply enjoy the ‘fourth trimester’ as rested parents. She was always on time (and often early). During the first weeks, she helped guide us (new parents with little knowledge of babies), answered questions, and relieved me during the night. She is easygoing and not pushy if you are an experienced parent or have strong preferences.

To give a rough idea of our routine for anyone unfamiliar w/ what a night nanny does: Beverley arrived at 8 pm and changed into her work clothes (scrubs). She took over or helped (depending on how involved we chose to be) with soothing/changing/bathing/swaddling. If I were finishing a feed, she washed bottles and prepared nighttime formula (we combo-fed). I went to bed. In the first few weeks, I was recovering from an emergency C-section and immediately went to sleep. But eventually it was nice to read and have a little "me time" before bed.

She woke me to feed as necessary and took our son back to burp/swaddle/soothe until the next feed. I slept about 3 hours at a time. By week 4-5, I was sleeping through the night (pumping before bedtime, Beverley feeding formula overnight, waking to breastfeed or pump in the morning).

Beverley also specializes in gentle sleep training, which we planned to hire her for. But since she helped so much in the beginning, we established a routine that got our son sleeping through the night by 3.5 months. Hiring Beverley was easily the best money I have ever spent. I trust her wholeheartedly.

I am happy to speak on the phone with anyone interested. I will pass along her info in DMs. She can also provide additional references.

A page from a man’s journal, 1840s

Purchased at an estate sale. Entries mostly recorded items he sold (oats, eggs, etc) and labor he did (building chimneys, laying foundation) but then there was this chaotic page. Many pages missing unfortunately.

Photos from Frederick Cook’s collection. Cook claimed to be the first person to reach the North Pole in 1909 but his credibility is debated.

From a large lot of glass negatives I purchased at an auction. Any idea of the year? This was the only photograph of a black person in 50+ photos.

Neglected dog at 69 Coffey howling to get inside in the heat, no water visible

Hi all. I’ve posted about this dog before and I remember people wanting to report it to 311. Now would be a good time. Can’t see any water. Dog is sitting outside the door to the house panting and howling. It got distracted from crying and howling because I walked up to the gate but you could otherwise hear it down the block. It’s so depressing. Why get a dog to leave it outside in all sorts of weather with no enrichment, trapped in a concrete cell? He occasionally hoses the shit out from under the fence and into the street. Very nice.

Recommendations for floor mats and seat covers? New (to me) 23 Sport

I kind of don’t want to hide the nice leather seats but I know I’m going to wind up eating in there. Also have 2 dogs and a baby to protect the seats from. I have the CoverCraft Carhartt covers on our Jeep but wanted to see if anyone has other recommendations. Floor mats too. Thanks in advance :)

How can I clean this outdoor light without damaging it?

Bought this light for $5 at a garage sale. The back plate is damaged with rust. Do I take it apart and clean the whole thing? Or do I just clean the non rusted part and accept that the back plate is going to be rusted? Any tips appreciated :)

Know anyone who does weekly garbage and sidewalk maintenance?

Hey all. Do you know anyone local who takes care of the trash in front of small apt buildings? Putting the cans out and back in, making sure the sidewalk is swept and free of debris, leaves in the fall, and snow in the winter? Thank you in advance for any leads!

Hey all. I’m looking for recommendations similar to The Terror (season 1) or The Damned (2024). I like old timey, but more importantly remotely set, stories of survival against paranormal forces. I like it when they’re really stranded out there in extreme weather conditions. I also found The Damned to have great characters. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Was not expecting this! I also thought this book was older at first glance. Turns out it was just an ironically terrible gift between partners in what seems to be a failing polyamorous marriage. The rest of the notebook is blank.
