Thumb picks for very large thumbs?

Looking to get better at finger picking, and I can't find a pick that is comfortable and feels natural on my huge thumb. They are all too tight.

Metal ones won't work unless they don't have a rolled edge (I'm cross picking, and the rolled edges catch on the upstroke). Prefer something fairly light -- let's say .7 or less. I use the .66 Clayton for my everyday pick, and I like the feel of that thickness.

Can't find type C pots.

I'm building a Stratoblaster circuit for on an onboard application rather than a pedal box.

I need to find a through hole, board mountable type C (reverse taper) pot that is 50k. I can find a limited number of type C in other values, but I'm not finding 50k in anything other than large assortments-- which would mean I'd end up with a whole bunch of other pots that I don't need.

I do have some type C that are 500k, but I'm assuming they will kill all the low end, and thus not fit this application.

I'd welcome any thoughts, ideas, or sources...

Anybody from NY? I have questions...

NY has been clear about the laws-- they won't register a Kei truck. Yet I still see them on the road.

My son really wants one for his first vehicle, and there's a Honda van for sale locally. My concern is that I'll go to get it registered and I'll be told no, then I'm stuck with a vehicle I can't use.

Microphones?

What do you all use for microphones? Anyone build your own?

I've been thinking about building a bullet mic. If you've done this, what mic insert did you use?

Speed controls gone? Can't pin chords anymore? Popup videos?

Are you guys TRYING to kill your app? Two of the most useful features you had-- scrolling speed control, and the ability to pin chords-- are suddenly gone.

And random videos that often aren't even the right song popping up when I click on the autoscroll? If I wanted to watch a video of a song I'd go to youtube.

PLEASE apply the KISS principle here. You're complicating things and killing your product in the process. Your audience doesn't care about play along videos... and those who do can open another tab and play along from there.

Old and In The Way recordings-- trying to compile a complete archive.

I've fallen down the Old & In The Way rabbit hole. As an archivist by nature, I'm compelled to locate and download all that I can.

Using the available setlists from jerrygarcia.com as a baseline (assuming that the setlists there indicate a tape might exist, and the absence of a setlist meaning is likely doesn't) I've identified 6 of shows that might exist, but aren't on youtube, archive, or any other source I could identify.

I also found 4 recordings on archive that are undated. 2 rehearsals and 2 shows.

Can anyone point me to any of the missing shows, or put a date to the unknowns?

Anybody built a Stratoblaster circuit?

I'm interested in building one of these in the way that Alembic built them (with an on-off switch), but the kits and completed ones that are out there now all seem to use a potentiometer.

Anyone aware of a kit that uses an on off switch?

I could certainly build it on a throughhole breadboard, but I'd prefer the cleaner look of a printed PCB if possible.

Why do guitar/banjo/mandolin etc. chord books all start with C rather than A?

Title says it all. I have several chord books for different instruments, and they all start with the variations of C chords rather than A chords.

Why is that?

Substitute for Delta sander backing plate?

I was given a Delta stationary belt sander today. It has a 6' sander on the side, but the backing disc is missing. In looking online, the only site I can find them on is selling them for $75.

Are there backing plates from other brands that would fit? If not, I'll probably end up turning my own out of some aluminum stock.

Craftsman 103 series bandsaw issues

Anyone own a 103 series (1940's-50's) Craftsman bandsaw?

I recently acquired one. Ancient blade broke almost immediately when I turned on the machine to test it. I purchased a new 80' blade, but cannot get enough adjustment to get the new blade on. The tensioner moves freely, but it doesn't come down far enough to allow me to roll the new blade on.

I've changed lots of bandsaw blades... this one has me stumped.

Edit: I may have figured it out-- do the threads on your tensioner come all the way to the top of the tensioner? Mine appear to be stripped out. Looks like I'll be ordering a helicoil kit if I'm right.

Favorite thin humbucker?

I build guitars out of exotic woods-- they tend to be much heavier than commercial guitars.

I've been commissioned to build a guitar with a body made out of Paduk, Lacewood, and Ebony. All are very heavy woods. The customer has requested that I make the body as thin as structurally possible to keep the weight down. That also means I'll need to come up with shallower-than-normal pickups. They have specifically requested humbuckers.

So... the usual pickups I use are not going to be viable for this build. The customer does not want surface mount (the kind you might use on an archtop). What's your favorite slimline/thin humbucker?

05 Rav4 -- help me identify this part name or number please!

My son has an 05 Rav4. In the trunk, there's a little trim piece that is in the middle of the wheel humps that pops out to expose the end of the strut to access the nut for removal.

We're missing that piece on the driver's side. My google searches have been useless because I don't know what to call this piece.

Can anyone assist with the proper name, a part number, or a link to the correct part?

Anybody own a Crafter M70E?

One has popped up on my local facebook at a pretty attractive price. I'm not finding much about them. Anyone have feedback on how they sound, quality, etc. before I drive an hour away to find that I hate it?

High quality SMALL table saw?

I currently have a craftsman tabletop table saw. It's not very good. I think the limitation might be the fence rather than the saw, but it simply can't cut a straight line.

My shop is very space limited. I would love to buy a full sized table saw, but the 5 foot wide ones simply aren't going to fit.

I'm mostly doing thin rips and pen blank sized pieces that get glued together for my custom guitar builds (process is basically the same as building a cutting board), and I build some jewelry boxes-- so I don't need a gigantic saw, but I do need the ability to cut absolutely straight lines.

Feeling a little stuck, and I'd welcome any ideas. Too many of my projects get stalled out while I wait for the opportunity to get to my woodworking club and get some saw time.

Two issues with my '02 C5.

Anyone have issues with the transmission overheating? It only happens to me on long trips, but the transmission fluid gets to about 225 degrees, and the transmission starts to slip (and throws a code). If I let it cool off, the problem goes away completely. Would a transmission cooler help with this?

Also, my cruise control works fine most of the time, but does not work when the headlights are turned on. That one has me baffled.

Open to any ideas folks might have.

Anyone use a raptor sharpening system?

This weekend I bought a bunch of higher end turning tools (Taylor and Sorby mostly, plus a few others I haven't identified yet) from an older gent who is getting out of turning and has sold his lathe. A total of 41 tools for $50. I reached out regarding a Sorby thicknessing tool, and he just threw everything else in. I was pretty shocked-- easily $1500 or more worth of turning tools.

He offered me a Raptor sharpening setup with 5 of the Raptor angle gauges, the holder, and an 8 inch Bauer (Harbor Freight) grinder with a BCN wheel for $150.

Trying to gauge if this is a good deal or not. I don't really need it, as I can do basic sharpening at home now, and if I need a BCN I can sharpen at my wood club, but it would be nice to be able to do everything in my own shop.

Storage cases

I just picked up a Mevo Plus to record my son's baseball events. I'd like to get a small case that is designed to hold one of these. Any options out there? I'm not coming up with much online, but may not be keywording it correctly.

Also, I can't find anything specific to my model. The label on the bottom says it's "Mevo-55NGK" and I'm not finding ANYTHING about the specs.

What's your favorite online store?

New to all of this. I want to get started making guitar straps to go with the custom guitars that I build. The only local place I have for buying leather goods is Hobby Lobby, and I'd rather limit my support of them as much as possible.

I know of Tandy, but have never purchased from them. What other places are there that you would recommend?
