Hear me out: heritage units for fallen flag railroads

I think Amtrak should do heritage units for the fallen flag railroads that originally operated some of Amtrak’s current routes. ALC-42’s in the same paint schemes of these similar to Norfolk Southern’s heritage unitsSome examples may be:

Great Northern (empire builder)
Pennsylvania (Pennsylvanian)
New York central (lake shore limited/wolverine)
Southern (crescent)
B&O (capitol limited when it returns)
Seaboard air line (silver series)
Illinois central (city of New Orleans)
Rio grande (California Zephyr)
Burlington (Illinois zephyr)
ATSF Warbonnet (Southwest chief)
Southern Pacific (sunset limited)
Milwaukee road (Hiawatha/borealis)

Stealing is always wrong and I’m tired of pretending otherwise

Stealing is always wrong. Before I get called a monster, I do have sympathy for homeless people who steal to feed themselves, but it’s still wrong. Depending on the situation I may not call the cops on a thief, but I’m not gonna sit here and act like what they did is ok. The mentality of “if you saw a homeless person steal food no you didn’t” is why Walgreens has deodorant and toothpaste locked up. It’s why several Walgreens and CVS stores in downtown San Francisco have had to close in recent years. Stealing is always wrong, regardless of the thief’s personal situation, and I’m tired of pretending that it’s ok in certain situations.

How do I go about getting fake nails and how do they work?

I (19M) have been a chronic nail biter for probably close to a decade now. I want to have normal hands again. I know that getting fake nails are probably not the best way to break the habit but it's what would be easiest for me.

I don't want anything flashy for them. I want them do be normal length, with the tip of the nail probably just barely extending over the end of my fingertip itself. I also don't want any fancy colors or anything, I just want skin-toned nails. Basically I just want these things to look as normal as possible, and not for it to be obvious I have fake nails. I also work part-time in a warehouse, and while I wear gloves, i don't want nails to interfere with it.

I don't know anything about getting them. Where do I get them? Ulta or Sephora? Am I gonna have to trim them to the right length and/or paint them the right tone? if so, how do I do that? How do I even get them on my fingers in the first place? thanks for any tips

Thoughts on Stoeger?

I'm looking at a few different shotguns to get for my first; two of them are Stoeger's. The first is a P3000 12 gauge with a 3" chamber and a 24" barrel. The other is a P3500 12 guage with a 3.5" chamber and 26" barrel. Which of these would be better in your opinion?

Also I know that this is a stupid question (i'm new to gun ownership and shotguns in general) but would 2.75" shells be able to be firied out of a larger chamber like a 3" or 3.5"? thanks.

Part one of a series of route/service proposals: Michigan

First thing, bring the trains back to Michigan Central Station and have the wolverine be a Chicago-Detroit train with 4 roundtrips/day.

For the north-of-Detroit stops, i propose a train called the Cherry Limited, which will have a daily roundtrip most of the year with 2 daily trips between Memorial Day and Labor day weekends. The train will go Detroit - Royal Oak - Troy - Pontiac - Durand - Owosso - Alma - Mt. Pleasant - Cadillac - Traverse City. This train should have high ridership in the summer with tourists going to northern Michigan, and also with Central Michigan students as well.

Another proposal I have is to replace the Blue Water with the International the way the train gods always intended. Instead of terminating at Port Huron, the train would go into Canada and run along 2 VIA lines. It would stop at Sarnia - Wyoming - Strathroy - London - Ingersoll - Woodstock - Brantford - Aldershot - Oakville - Toronto. I think there should be 2x daily trips, one that takes the whole day and an overnight run. Since the Chicago - Port Huron run is about 7.5 hours and the (slightly different route) Toronto - Sarnia run is about 4.5 hours, I think the day train should leave Chicago around 7:00 AM, and the night train should leave around 7:00 PM.

For the Pere Marquette, I think Amtrak is hindering what the route could be. There is currently only one westbound trip, which leaves at the crack of dawn, and the singular eastbound trip gets to Grand Rapids late at night. There should be 4 daily roundtrips, one early in the morning, one in mid-morning, one mid-afternoon, and one late-evening. The train should also stop at Hammond-Whiting.

I have one more proposal for a new route. This one I think could have a lot of ridership in the summer months and also from MSU students. Hence, it will have 2 daily roundtrips most of the year and a third from memorial day to labor day. This new route will be called the Regatta, and it will run from Detroit - Dearborn - Plymouth - Howell - Lansing - Lake Odessa - Grand Rapids - Holland - Grand Haven - Muskegon

Mossberg VS. Benelli?

I've getting a shotgun for trap shooting. At first I was looking at a Maverick 88 security because it's cheap and reliable. The salesman at Cabela's recommended a Benelli NOVA 3 pump action because the longer barrel is better for trap shooting.

For the trap shooting club i'm a part of, one of the guys has a long-barreled semi-auto, and he has to assemble the gun and disassemble it every shoot because his gun case is smaller than the gun. I don't want to spend double the price of a Mav 88 on a shotgun that is more complicated to use. From what I've heard the Mav 88 is a very fine gun and its reliability would be similar to that of a Benelli. I also have more experience using a 20" barreled-Remington than the longer barrel and am more familiar with it.

But then again the salesman is behind the counter for a reason, and he recommended a 28+ inch barrel. Money isn't that much of a concern but if I can save a few hundred bucks I will. What do you guys recommend I go for? thanks.

How do I take care of my feet so my shoes and socks don't smell?

I (18M) start a new warehouse job and got a new pair of boots for it. I also bought some crew socks since I'm going to be wearing shorts and I don't want the boots rubbing against my legs. The only issue is that my socks and shoes tend to smell absolutely foul. I wash my feet in the shower every day, but the sneakers I've been wearing for the past year reek.

My feet have actually rubbed through the lining of the sole and the balls of my feet lie on the exposed foam in the bottom of the shoe. Part of me thinks that this is why I've gone through so many socks in the last year because of holes in them (I've tossed 3 pairs in the last 6 weeks). I think the holes in the shoes are also leading to the smell. How do I stop my feet from smelling so bad and causing it to get stuck in my boots? How do I also stop the inside soles in them from getting those holes in them as well? Thanks.

What happens if I put synthetic motor oil in my car when the owners manual says semi synthetic?

I have a 2020 ford escape sel and the owners manual recommends 5W-20 oil for reference. I like pennzoil but are I’ve been able to find from them is full synthetic, so I’ve gotten the ford brand motor oil from Walmart and have put that in previously. Not sure what was put in when I took it in for its last oil change. What would happen if I put full synthetic 5W-20 pennzoil in the car when the owners manual says to put in semi synthetic?

A couple questions about flying in storms...

My first one is that on flight radar i often see planes take roundabout routes to avoid storms. That mostly makes sense to me, but I thought that because airliners are pressurized they can fly above inclement weather. If that's the case why do they still take longer routes?

Also I saw that a delta flight from new york to Raleigh the other day that did a swap escape route where the flight leaves early to avoid weather but stays at lower altitude. That delta flight flew the entire route at 5,700 feet. Isn't that too low to avoid weather, or other planes, especially in a corridor as busy as the northeast?

Are seed oils good or bad for your health?

The head coach of the tennessee titans said that the team no longer uses seed oils in the cafeteria. Instagram was giving him his flowers for it because seed oils are unhealthy, but reddit is flaming him for falling for joe rogan pseudo science. I'm not a doctor or a nutritionist so can someone who is chime in?

How is traffic on the north side of town?

My parents are loosely contemplating moving to Columbus from Rochester NY. My mom's work would be north of downtown so my parents have been looking at the Dublin, Powell, and Worthington areas. I suggested Delaware because my mom is mildly picky about what she wants in a house and, at least on zillow, Delaware had a bit more of what she wanted than the suburbs closer to downtown.

My mom is leaning away from Delaware because its a bit far from where she would be working. She really wants a 20-ish minute commute because that's what she has in Rochester, but the Columbus area is about double the size. How is traffic on I-270, I-71, OH-315, especially coming from Delaware and the closer suburbs on the north side of town? Thanks.

What ever came of the cougar craze from last summer?

I know the dec came out to investigate and I heard that some suspected it was hiding in Seneca park, but did anyone ever figure out if there really was a cougar roaming around here last summer?

When I (18M) was about 10 I came home from school and my dad had me come into his office to show me something. He showed me the music video for Stacey's Mom by fountains of Wayne, which I knew he always liked the song. I vaguely remember about halfway through the video when there was a slow-mo shot of a woman coming out of a swimming pool, my dad looking over at me and saying what a great music video it was. Even nowadays whenever the song comes on the radio my dad will still mention what a great music video it was.

At the time i didn't think much of it other than it being a random slightly weird thing, but when I was about 13 or 14 I started putting together the dots on it. I'm pretty sure I already know the answer to this, but did my dad previously crank it to this music video when he was younger?
