Hey guys, I don't have any academic background in history but I am fascinated by the growth of modern china, are there any books that explain how the economic and social policies or any movements made China and Chinese society what it is today.I wanna know how did China become a manufacturing powerhouse despite being an agrarian society and communist.

Also I don't understand chinese, so please recommend me english or english translated books

Since last year, I am spending too much time on reading politically charged news and venting my frustration on social media and sometimes I engage in self talk where I again vent my anger or explain to myself how it should have happened. Also rather than reading news I have started to actively search and read politically charged opinions. I understand that it's part of life, but it's hampering my daily life and also causing useless rage and frustration.How can I deal with it? Is there anyway I can go back to being normal? Take events for their face value and not think about them for entire day.

Hi, Maharashtrian here.

I grew up in Borivali and Matunga, so I was surrounded by people from all over India. Most of my friends were South Indian, Gujarati, or Marwari, and since I went to a Syrian Catholic school, I also had a lot of Malayali friends. Growing up, this kind of diversity just felt... normal. Nobody really cared where you came from.

But over the last few years, I've noticed a lot more hostility towards migrants. Politicians openly talk about sending people back to their home states, and it feels like this rhetoric is becoming more and more acceptable.

When I joined a government college, most of my classmates were Maharashtrians from different parts of the state, from Thane to Nagpur. What surprised me was how many of them genuinely agreed with these anti-migrant views. I found it pretty uncomfortable because it was so different from the environment I grew up in. There were posters plastered across mumbai saying wake up marathi, save maharashtra and we are hindus but not hindi. Luckily the brothers are promoting this hate has lost all his political power.

To me, this kind of linguistic nationalism feels like a danger Indian union. I've also seen similar tensions in Karnataka, including incidents of vandalism over language issues (maybe its not that prevalent and social media is trying to farm outrage)

What I'm curious about is this: why don't we hear about the same level of anti-migrant politics from places like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Gujarat, or the Northeastern states? They all have strong regional identities and their own languages too. Are they doing something differently, or am I just missing something?

The other reason I'm posting here is that I recently came across discussions about Tamil separatism. That honestly caught me off guard. I've always seen Tamil Nadu as being just as much a part of India's core identity as Maharashtra, Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, or any other state. So I was curious about how widespread those views actually are and what people from Tamil Nadu think about them.

I'd love to hear your perspectives, especially if you're from Tamil Nadu or another non-Hindi-speaking state.

Sup tamil bros, I have decided to learn tamil, at least become competent to read newspapers and understand it by next diwali. This is my first time learning another language. Any suggestions? I usually struggle with burn out when trying to learn any new skill.

Hey guys, I am starting webdev, I have used it for graphics programming using C++ developement and it was a great experience. I am new to this field, currently I am planning to use it for webgl, webgpu, threejs and svelte js. How to set it up for that? Also how can I set boilerplate for html? (ex. ! and !!! in vscode)

In south asia except India and Bhutan, every nation had a coup, how was Indian Government able to avoid and disencourage attempts by thier own army or foriegn actor?

Why don't we proselytise like other religions, even indic religions like Jainism and buddhism did it, why did they stop?

I am sure that late stages of colonial india and after independence, Gandhi was held in high regard and looked up with respect but now people hate him and celebrate Nathuram Godse. How similar is india to early nazi Germany or the kingdom of Italy? I ain't asking for speculation but rather comparison.
