How do you handle MIL that doesnt look toxic for others?

This is going to be a long post. Got married & Settled abroad post marriage. He never attended our engagement and i was all alone standing and finishing the ceremony. Later i got to know from him that his mom told him not to spend on tickets. Things seemed fine initially. Since it was a covid wedding we never got a chance for a honeymoon immediately. We had to stay with in laws for couple of months. But the sad part is we never had a chance to go on a single date as a couple. His cousins and brother accompanied wherever we went. They were in our room watching movies till 12 AM. First time I went to my parents place post wedding his brother accompanied to celebrate his birthday with us. Finally when we moved abroad we had to call them once in 2 days and show every little purchase we made. I slowly started waking up and set boundaries but now I realised I should have done it day 1. Continuing the story now. We had multiple fights and everything was due to his family topic. As soon as we moved they started a topic of getting his brother stay with us and search for a job here. I said if there is a timeline of one month, two months etc its fine. They dint agree to commit and finally it dint work out. And couple of years later his dad passed away unfortunately. And 13 days ceremony we had to wash our hair thrice a day, clean the house by ourselves etc arc and i fell so sick on day 7. I dint expect my husband to take care of me but he dint even acknowledge my presence or me being sick. And worst part all his relatives blamed me for not giving a grand child. And after a point it gave me anxiety to even go there. So we were asked to travel again for 70th day or something..I stayed for couple of days and went back to my parents place scared to face those relatives. Later my husband made me apologise to his mom. But I also got to know from him that the relatives were saying that I should have done enough punya (holy things) to attend the 70th day. Looks like i dont have that enough. And finally i became pregnant. Throughout my pregnancy his mom kept torturing him mentally with some news or the other. She was telling his brother and sister in law will likely separate (while looked like it was just arguments and they were fine)..or she is having fever, his brother fell down and injured his shoulder (while he was out and about) this that so he was always stressed and guilty about his mom facing all this. And my SIL wanted to move to a separate house, 5 min away from my MIL and that became an issue. My husband dint make my pregnancy memorable. And now my child is 1.5 years and I have thyroid cancer. I recently went through a surgery and dint want to tell his side of family because its like a FM. So we just told his mom that its a removal i will let everyone know post surgery. She has now told his brother and his brother is asking why is he hiding such stuff and i told I am the one who is suffering and I get to decide when to tell folks. Now my husband is not talking to me. While he is a good man he keeps asking why can't I like his family. But I don't know what else I should go through mentally or I dont even know if I am overacting. Just let me know your thoughts.

The endless urge to do nothing

Hey mommies. 35F here with a 1.5 years old daughter. Postpartum has not been very kind. I am at a senior position in an American MNC. From Jan this year, I strongly started hating my job (while I know I should be thankful). But I want to do something else in life. While I don't know what. Sometimes I just have these random thoughts on helping children etc etc (I also know it's just too random without any vision). Any of you have the same problem? I just want to have fun with my daughter..eat good food..go for a good walk and watch some shows.

Remote working possible from anywhere?

Hey folks. Just a random thought. So if there is a remote role in India and if I am working outside India - can I still apply and continue to get the salary in Indian account? Is this even an option. Just curious.

Recommendation for British curriculum school for expats

Hey people!

Mother of a toddler here. I know I have some time before I start worrying but I am anyways super worried about which school to put my daughter in. I am mainly looking for a good atmosphere and friendly teachers and management that's receptive to feedback. And ofcourse that one school where our children learn to become good human beings and become successful. I keep hearing about students being brats & spoiled, excessive bullying etc etc. So experienced parents & teachers, please drop your recommendations!

P.S I am still going through postpartum spiraling and worried that the world should be kind to my daughter. So please no mean comments.

Lost the spart to work

Hey all,

Mom of a one year old. I am based in the UAE, I am in a senior position in an American MNC. In fact I got promoted just before my delivery. Somehow when I joined back, I slowly started losing interest. I don't know if I can term it as laziness. And unfortunately I have also been assigned a most complex project which is not going anywhere. I always thought I would fight back. But for the last 3 months, I cry a lot, can't focus, I was guilty because I can't spend time with my daughter and also I suck at work. Can't take criticism and think about days when I was celebrated. When my husband questions how come I lost interest and why can't I just take it as a challenge and prove myself in the new project. Honestly I am tired. The work environment is also toxic with constant taunts, pressure and escalation. I feel guilty that I have become lazy. Scared to quit because I have always worked and the thought of depending on my husband is worrying me. But I just feel like I want peace. A LOT OF IT.

Share your experience.

Burned out in big tech. Want to spend the next chapter helping kids navigate AI.

After 12+ years in tech I want to work with schools, families, and kids on digital wellbeing and how AI is reshaping childhood. But I can't find a clear career path for this. Is there a profession dedicated to protecting children's well being in this space? Very interested in hearing from someone that's already working at this intersection.

Why is internal transfer so difficult in UAE

Almost all the roles that I apply to have a standard response where the HM doesn't even want to move ahead with informational chat or they already identified an internal candidate for the role. And the current org situation is bad. Atleast if I flunk an interview I can be at peace. But getting to the interview stage is so difficult. Job market outside is also not so great. Anyone else facing the same?

Do you really like what you do?

How many of you are passionate about what you do? After 10+ years I feel I am just here for the salary. Sometimes it feels like we are solving problems for the leaders and not for customers.

What motivated you to switch Career post maternity leave?

I feel like my brain stopped functioning post maternity leave. Of course priorities change. But I am not passionate about doing what I do anymore. 12 years of successful corporate life and suddenly I feel like I am desperate to make a shift. I want to do something more peaceful, meaningful but decent money. Is it Practically possible?

Hi folks,

Any recommendations for a good therapist for mental health in Dubai? Tried and tested? This is kind of my first time, so any lead will be helpful.
