So, I really like how unintrusive the ride cymbal is, and I've been wondering if using it as an orchestral suspended cymbal is a good idea, as I'm not going to buy a whole drum kit

So, I experimentally retracted the floor destroyer and held my cello with my legs like in the baroque, and it was surprisingly comfortable

Is it just me, or are there other people who also hold their cello like viola da gamba?

I'm genuinely curious. I've been browsing second hand tubas, and I've noticed how almost all were either Eb or Bb and maybe 3 were C. Then I have read on Wikipedia, that tuba doesn't transpose, and now I'm wondering - is there any actual advantage in getting a C tuba over a Bb tuba or the opposite?

It's not as difficult as the violin, as its bigger size allows fingers to be wider spread, it's much more portable than the cello or the double bass, and unlike the guitar it can play sustained notes, even crescendo

The only real downside is its sizing (in inches and not fractions) and that there isn't much repertoire for it, but nothing stops you from playing repertoire from other instruments

So, I'm returning to learning cello, and I also decided to learn the oboe simultaneously. The problem is, I want to also learn the viola, as it's just an octave above the cello, but I'm wondering if learning them all at once is a good idea?

I'm a fast learner and really like learning many things simultaneously (eg. Spanish, Portuguese and linguistics), so I thought to myself why not?

I'm not aspiring to be a virtuoso, I would much rather be somebody like the InstrumentManiac on YouTube and play for fun

Can I use a really sharp kitchen knife to scrape reeds? Or should I use a razor?

So, I decided to learn the oboe (because why not?) and I have a dilemma: while I know cane reeds are the best, I want to start with synthetic ones due to their better longevity. I only don't know if I should start with soft or medium reeds. I know I will sound like a silly goose in agony, but I really want to learn

So, I'm going back to learning cello. I'm really happy about it, but I would also like to learn one or two more instruments (like an AB plot in a film). I've been thinking about viola, oboe or flute.

I am aware that oboe is extremely hard to learn, and that viola doesn't have an actual sizing system

It's capable of making any sound humans can perceive, it can play 4 or more distinct timbres, it has extremely rich history, yet it's going extinct, due to churches closing and the organs being scrapped, and the courses being really hard to access to by "common mortals", as it's mostly just a DLC for pianists in professional music schools.

This instrument deserves so much more than playing religious stuff in nearly empty churches.

Hola, en los últimos tres días se han publicado los resultados de las universidades en las que me he preinscrito. Estoy admitido en la UIB y en la UCLM, y estoy en la lista de espera de UniZar

Con lo indeciso que soy me cuesta muchísimo elegir, dado que en la universidad de preferencia (Zaragoza) admitido no estoy, pero es posible que me vayan a admitir si espero (e igual es posible que no lo hagan).

He intentado hacer una gráfica de ventajas y desventajas, pero aun así no sé qué hacer

Hola, estoy pensando desde hace muchísimo tiempo aprender un instrumento (oboe, viola, violonchelo u órgano), pero el problema es que soy un adulto de 20 años que va a vivir en un piso compartido y probablemente sin poder tener visitas.

El conservatorio simplemente puede no dejarme acceder al curso simplemente por mí edad, y además el horario puede ser incompatible con la universidad y/o el trabajo.

Si contrato un profe, tendré que alquilar o comprar un instrumento (o pedir acceso a un cura en el caso de órgano) y además es muy probable que no podré tomar clases en la vivienda dado que probablemente no podré tener visitas, y que esto puede molestar a otros inquilinos o hasta vecinos.

No quiero darme por vencido, voy a aprender de cualquier forma posible.
