I spent years doing skincare right up to my jaw and apparently my neck was just on its own
This is a conversation I had with a DM inside a skincare brand, so putting that up front. No product names or links here.
Small confession: for years I did the whole routine. Cleanser, serums, moisturizer, sunscreen, all of it.
And then I would basically stop at my jaw like my neck belonged to somebody else.
I started noticing recently that my face and neck were not aging at quite the same pace, which felt a little rude considering they are attached.
The neck is kind of an easy area to neglect. The skin is thinner, has fewer oil glands and less fat padding, plus it gets sun exposure and folds and moves all day. So dryness, lines and looseness can start showing there earlier than you expect.
Also, I think expectations matter here. A cream can help the skin look smoother, more hydrated and a little firmer. It is not going to erase deep neck bands or significantly sagging skin. At that point you are talking about procedures, not finding a magical jar.
What changed for me was treating my neck like an actual part of the routine instead of whatever was left on my hands afterward.
A few things that make more sense to me now:
- Give the neck its own step instead of the tail end of your face moisturizer.
- If firmness is the concern, look at a firming or peptide cream and actually bring it down the neck and upper chest.
- Be gentle. I use light upward strokes because the skin there feels way less forgiving than my face.
- SPF on the neck every day. This was probably my biggest blind spot for years.
- Give it time. I would think in months, not weeks.
I am not going to tell anyone which one to buy. Most of the value is probably just remembering the neck exists, choosing something with a firming active that you will actually use, and being consistent with sunscreen.
Happy to answer neck or ingredient questions in the comments since I spend way too much time thinking about this stuff now.
