Future of the rest of Line 3 Right of way?

Does the TTC/Toronto have plans for the remaining Line 3 elevated right of way? I don’t know how it could be used for future transit considering Line 3 would derail on it and I thought the new bus RT route would use the elevated section but doubt it's big enough for buses not to mention the added cost.

The elevated portion would be good to rehab and turn it into a park or green space.

Either way, they need to redo most of Kennedy, the concrete brutalism is distracting not to mention the bus lane maze.

East River Rd Sidewalk?

I was recently looking at Google Maps Street View along East River Rd by campus and it's dated 2025. Did they finally put a sidewalk along the road? I haven't been over in that area in a while and the satellite imagery is still out of date showing no changes.

Any apartment residents along East River Rd know?

Others' thoughts on Niagara Transit and Metrolinx

Hello all,

I just passed through NF today after my weekend in Toronto and back home to the States. I took the GO train in (brutal ride with slow speeds) and I queued up to take the NT bus to the border.

It was great to see NT folks helping guide people onto the bus to get to Clifton Hill, etc. But of course people were shocked by the cash only or ticket via Transit app only, no Presto. As I was boarding, I joked with one of NT guys, “but why no Presto?”. His response, “we’re not Metrolinx”.

This reply just seems so condescending because NT is just not making an effort to join in on the Presto system when most of the folks that depart that area are using Presto as is from a GO bus or train AND everyone has a form of payment that's not cash. It's seems so backwards and nearsighted to say this when all other GTA transit agencies work with Metrolinx to offer Presto. It can't be that much of an extra lift or license to offer this. NT is already working the Transit app to sell their tickets why not add contactless and Presto?

Folks rely on NT if they aren't using WEGO to get to the stuff they need to get rather than the attractions. They should really make the effort to be more accommodating to anyone as they get around YOUR city and region.

I'd like to know what everyone’s thoughts are regarding NT in NF and the region, especially in this context.

LS West Track Work and NF route

Does anyone know if the LS West track work this weekend is also fixing the West Harbour to NF leg of track? Metrolinx does not offer a ton of information on this other than “it's a known track issue” and has been for weeks. I know this leg is CN territory so Metrolinx does not have much of a say.

I get delays and stoppages on this corridor but it was brutal today sitting on one of the NF trains and just crawling for most of it. Thankfully, AC and washrooms are available lol

Also side note, do all NF LS West trains normally run with 10 coaches? Seems odd a less frequent train to a popular destination does not run with max coach count especially a 2.5 hr train.

TO/GTA Friend Groups and places to meet people, etc.

Hi all,

As I continue to frequently visit the GTA, I was wondering if there were any spots around the city and region to meet folks, regularly, and if there are any groups online via any method to just meet people/friend groups, etc.

Right now during my visits I'm mostly going alone, my immediate family can't join me at the moment, and I've got some family in the suburbs that I see once in a while. It would nice to explore some places around the GTA with like-minded folks and just connect with others.

Feel free let me know here or privately.

Akira 4K Re-issue

I saw a Crunchyroll TT post about this but on Sept 4th, Crunchyroll is screening Akira 4K in select theaters including IMAX in the US and Canada.

Anyone have any ticket or theatre info? IMAX site has just the movie page and nothing else, no tickets or screening info.

PATH closing times?

Does anyone know when the PATH generally closes? I know each building/property owner can just close there portion when they want but that sounds odd stranding folks in one spot on the way out.

For context, I was exiting Line 1 at Queen on the way back to my hotel. It was either close to 11 pm or actually 11 and the 2 entrances/exits to 2 Queen East and 1 Queen East were locked. I was able to sneak out of the 2 Queen East side since the accessible doors opened up and a few folks were able to enter Queen station using the other doors (maybe TTC locks their doors/side?).

I prefer to use the PATH and TTC through the downtown rather than going outside, especially at night.

Change machines on Clifton Hill?

Does anyone know if any of the various “establishments” on Clifton Hill have any change machines to say break a $10 to toonies, loonies, and quarters?

If not, I guess I could stop by one of those souvenir shops and buy something for like $2 and request exact change.

Considering using a US TD Bank account when I travel to Canada

Hello folks,

I'm crossposting to multiple Reddits about this as I'm not sure which is better for this inquiry.

I am a US citizen who frequently travels to Canada (I live so close) and specifically the GTA. I was considering some options for transactions in Canada and for obtaining cash in Canada. Right now, I'm thinking of opening a US TD Bank checking account, as TD Bank is primarily Canadian, allows all clients to use any TD ATM (US and Canada), and overall seems more feasible and available than the other 4 of the Big 5 in Canada. Also, having a US account is easier for bank transfers.

Does anyone have any experience with this as a US TD client? Is having a TD Bank Canadian account better in this instance?

SUNY Telecommuting Policy Extended?

Any SUNY folks know if GOER extended telecommuting beyond 6/30/26, today?

We’ll probably get an answer tomorrow but I was not sure if NYS is considering just letting this expire with telecommuting being written into the new union contracts or at least UUP. This was a pilot after all…

Never understood the need for extensions, just implement it but NYS cries about the empty offices.

Digital Presto Card better?

Could not find the right subreddit for this. The Presto Card Reddit is a ghost town and the GO Transit Reddit had too many rules so here we are.

American here, WNYer to be more specific. I'm travelling a lot more to TO and the GTA and my most recent trip in April, my friend and I decided on a physical Presto card since we were exclusively using transit to get around (we took the Amtrak up). I knew there are digital Presto cards but I assumed, at the time, they were physical to digital via a Presto account.

Today, I was messing my cards and my Apple Wallet, Discover mostly, and I know Discover is limited in Canada (taps and digital transactions no, swipe and chip yes*) and I was thinking of using that for transit rather than Presto. That's out of the question when I attempted to reload my Presto card via the app and setup a digital Presto card, errors for each, no big deal tho. My goal is to avoid foreign transaction fees which Discover offers but my Mastercard will have to do in that regard.

I was messing around with Presto app and it's nice that you can add a physical card to the app to view and reload the balance BUT that's all you can do in the app without a Presto account. Presto accounts require a Canadian address (definitely not using my relative's address). You can't view transaction history without an account which is a pain because I want to see how much each ride was between our various GO and TTC trips. I even asked Presto support about transaction data and they never replied back.

I went back to the digital Presto card via Apple Wallet, you can reload, etc. but….

now finally to my question.…

with a digital Presto card, can you view transaction history without a Presto account as long as the digital Presto card is in your Apple Wallet?

Seems to be more sensible for the balance consensus folk like me without having to mess with a fare machine/Presto machine (Metrolinx come up with a name for them). I know the transaction history will not as detailed as possible, Apple is only provided so much data from Metrolinx and I'm not expecting it look like the Presto app with the transit logos and stuff but something is better than nothing and guessing, in this case.

PEF Folks: Telecommuting extension?

If telecommuting is extended for PEF (April 1 to March 31), usually a good indicator for the rest of NYS folks that follow July 1 to June 30 (like SUNY).

Any word on an extension until March 31, 2027?

Line 6 vs Line 5 Trains/Vehicles

Forgive my naivety and ignorance. As an American its all very new to us (especially WNYers with absolutely crap non-existent transit) seeing the robust transit in the GTA (minus its faults, in this case).

Why does Line 6 have trains/vehicles/whatever that are different from the Line 5 ones? Weren't these LRT lines done at the same time so same vehicle purchases?

The Line 6 trains are continuous and long so more room for standing passengers and the Line 5 trains are just newer streetcars connected together in pairs. Why not have the same trains on both LRT lines?

Visited Toronto this past week and weekend. We went to a nice restaurant on our list and took the streetcar there and back. I won't say what street it was (protecting the route and driver in this case) but when heading back at about 9 pm, some idiot decided to j-walk across a busy street, dodging traffic and resulting in the streetcar driver spamming the horn and the brakes. Felt very bad for the driver who decided to freak out in the cab and scream f**k many times. The entire streetcar was pretty silent after that and I witnessed that in the front row. Shortly after, at the next light, I could see the driver smack something on his left. I wasn't sure if it was added rage or if he dropped something. The streetcar could've easily grazed the guy on the right corner of the tram.

I've seen vids of NYC MTA Subway folks getting very shell shocked by jumpers, etc. and I imagine any train driver feels the same especially with reporting data and camera footage for each trip. This particular driver was very heated so I'm not sure if he has issues himself (not a good idea for TTC to have angry drivers), this particular incident sent him over the edge (TTC recording the incident doesn't help either), or just the imminent fear.

I'd like to know other people's thoughts on this. I used TTC and GO for the entire trip, first time using each transit service. I know TTC and Metrolinx has its problems but the only problems I encountered were this incident, GO’s super quiet announcements on a packed train, and TTC’s poor coordination during a temporary Line 2 closure between 5 stations due to an emergency/someone on the tracks.
