Cravings

Hey everyone! I am trying to love 10 pounds to go back to my ideal weight however I can’t stop my cravings or eating. It’s gotten real intense these days. I go to Pilates everyday and I walk for at least an hour. I am 23 but my body isn’t losing anymore and my cravings are getting worst. I am not hungry but I am craving. What should I do?? Any advice or suggestions? I will literally do anything at this point.

I am losing my way

Hey guys,

I’m someone who has never really felt khushu’ in prayer, and I don’t feel/don’t have emotions. I’ve been this way for most of my life. Because of that, I’ve always struggled with my relationship with Allah. People talk about feeling His presence or feeling something during prayer, and I just… don’t. It’s always made my faith feel difficult.

Last year, though, I was doing really well. I prayed all my prayers, read Qur’an regularly, fasted extra days, and stayed consistent. I still didn’t feel anything, but I kept going because I believed it was the right thing to do.

Then everything fell apart. I got into my dream school, but it felt like everything else in my life closed in. Family problems, financial stress, and just one thing after another. Normally, when I hit rock bottom, I eventually find my way back. This time, I can’t.
I moved to a new place, and I honestly feel like I’m drowning. I don’t know how to get myself out of this or where to even start. My life feels really difficult right now, and I know I’m drifting away from my faith, but I can’t seem to pull myself back.

To make things harder, I’m from a very strict, patriarchal culture. Sometimes I find myself asking Allah, “Why did You make me a woman if my life was going to be like this?” I know that’s a difficult question to ask, but it’s honestly where I am right now.
I don’t really know what to do anymore. Has anyone else gone through something like this? Especially if you’ve never been someone who felt anything during worship? How did you find your way back?

Is housing affordability affecting you or someone you know in Westchester?

Hi everyone! My name is Halla, and I’m volunteering with Open New York. We’re talking with residents across Westchester about one of the biggest challenges facing our communities: housing affordability.

Whether you’re renting, trying to buy your first home, worried about your children being able to stay in Westchester, or simply concerned about the future of your community, we’d love to hear from you.

We’re collecting signatures from people who support practical housing solutions, such as building more homes near transit, allowing accessory dwelling units (ADUs), and supporting thoughtful local development that helps keep Westchester affordable and thriving.

Signing the petition is just the first step. If you sign, one of our organizers may reach out to share opportunities to get involved in your community. That could include local events, public hearings, city and town projects, and other ways to make your voice heard on housing issues that directly affect where you live.

If this is something you care about, I’d really appreciate your support by signing our petition here:

Petition

I’d also love to hear your perspective. What’s the biggest housing challenge you’ve noticed in your town or neighborhood?

Colleagues: Seeking UNHQ Staff & Interns for Dissertation Research

Hi everyone! I'm currently a master's student at LSE conducting my dissertation research on employee well-being, coordination, and communication within
UN Headquarters (UNHQ) in NYC.
My research aims to better understand the UN work experience from both staff and intern perspectives, particularly how communication, coordination, and the working environment can shape well-being, motivation, and people's overall experience.
I've already had the opportunity to speak with a few staff members and interns, but I would really love to hear from more current or former UNHQ staff and interns.
Everything is completely anonymous, and the research will only be used for my master's dissertation and reviewed by my LSE professors for academic assessment.
If you would be open to participating in a short online interview or would like more information about the research, please comment below. Thank you so much!

Just got my permit and feeling overwhelmed. Where do I start?

My friend and I made a deal that we’d each do one crazy thing this year. For me, that was learning how to ride a motorcycle. I got my learner’s permit, but now I have no idea what to do next. Any advice? Also, is there a motorcycle that’s a good fit for someone on the shorter side (say 5ft)?

Am I hard to love?

Am I hard to love?
That question has followed me
for as long as I can remember.

It started with my parents.
With being too much one day
and invisible the next.
With learning that affection could disappear
without warning.
That home could still feel lonely
even when full of people.

And somehow that feeling found me again
in every relationship after.

I was always easy things.
Easy to leave.
Easy to replace.
Easy to touch when someone felt empty.
Easy to call when the night became too quiet.
Easy to forget the next morning.

But never easy to love.

I think after a while
it changes the way your body carries itself.
You start speaking softer.
Apologizing quicker.
Pretending things do not hurt
even when they split you open.

You become grateful for crumbs
because nobody ever taught you
what fullness looked like.

And the cruelest part is
I loved deeply.
Carefully.
In the way people write poems about.
I stayed through things
that should have made me leave.
I made excuses for wounds
that still ache under my skin.

But love always seemed to turn temporary
the moment it reached me.

So now the question sits inside me quietly.
Am I hard to love,
or am I simply the kind of person
people learn from
before they go love someone else correctly?

Sky the Limit

I was told when I was young
that the sky was the limit.
They said anything is possible
if you work hard enough,
if you wake before the sun,
if you silence doubt,
if you never stop reaching.
But no one spoke of the weight.
No one spoke of the quiet chains
forged from expectation,
from culture,
from fear dressed up as protection.
We are shackled by society.
By the eyes that follow.
By the whispers that stretch into shadows
so wide
we lose sight of the road ahead.
We shrink to fit the frame.
We dim to make others comfortable.
We trade wings for approval.
And I wonder.
How do we fly to the sky
when iron clings to our ankles?
How do we create
when we are sealed inside a cube
with nothing but the clicking of keys
and the hum of a machine
reminding us to produce,
to perform,
to comply?
How is the sky the limit
if our feet are forbidden
from leaving the dirt?
Maybe the sky was never the limit.
Maybe the limit is the fear
that keeps us bowed.
Maybe flight begins
not with permission,
not with applause,
but with the courage
to break what was never meant
to hold us.
