This bookstore’s classic shelf was mostly this “Wordsworth Classics” series and they all had covers like this. Funnily enough, titles like this Verne one had the original typeset and illustrations inside which many updated copies don’t include.

I recently read James by Percival Everett and was curious if there is a historical basis for the slaves' exaggeration of their dialect to better navigate relationships with whites. It seems unlikely to me and that this is purely a literary device, especially to the extent to which it's emphasized. Curious if anyone had any insight on this or sources related to it. Much thanks for any comments on it.

I’m laying out some long term plans for building a home and would like to learn about techniques like passive cooling (picrel) for saving on electricity and avoiding a hot home to begin with. I’m happy to read books or be pointed to multimedia sources.
My goal is to be well versed in these before any real plans are drawn up for a house. I’ve got about five years before we could build.
Not sure if this is the right place to ask. I was late to get a credit card but need to build credit for my eventual move back home. Will my Visa card in Taiwan build relevant credit for the US or do I meed a separate card to do so?
Expected my first video to get like two views and I got a little over a hundred in a week and four subscribers. Pretty happy. Second video was uploaded one week later at the same time and it got three. I’m surprised because I figured both would perform the same being from such a low subscriber account. The second video was on a much more popular book than my original, which was quite obscure. Is something algorithm related or is this just how it goes starting out?
I don’t mind this, but if it’s something that can be fixed easily then I’d prefer to know. Thanks.

After playing last night, I noticed this bone saddle tilts a bit. I have not noticed it before, but I'm not sure if I just overlooked it. Is it an issue, or should I just leave it alone?
I plan to use kdenlive to do some very simple editing for a YouTube project I have in mind, but I would like to make an animated intro. I have made gifs before from scanned drawings and want to take the same approach, but I don't have a workflow for it. Would kdenlive offer a simple way to do this and pair it with music or are there other, more appropriate programs for this?
All other curve-havers know two things about film: jack and shit. Any "critic" with wavy gravy nonsense on their page is a professional bullshit artist.

Curious what everyone's favorite lit crit about poetry is. I'm specifically looking for anything about metered poetry rather than free verse. I don't have a particular period in mind beyond traditional form being a component of the criticism.
If something about poetry comes to mind that doesn't fit this, I'm still interested, but please let me know which category it fits.
Found this old cell phone footage in an email and thought I’d share. This was June 12th, 2009 and we tried this shot like 10 times. He hit the longest manual I’ve ever seen in person. We were 13 and 14 here and I miss these days like crazy. I’ve had to become an adult without him. I’ve been thinking about him a lot as it’ll soon be ten years since he passed in 2016. I know people will wonder so I’ll just answer preemptively that it was fentanyl; I know that a lot of you have a similar story to tell. My heart breaks again to remember it.
Whenever I think of him, I remember this poem by Wendell Berry:

If I have already installed Linux with the custom kernel in the directions, will I have to do so again if I change distro? I have been having various issues and want to start fresh but don't want to repeat this whole process if it is unnecessary.
Been reading the intro to the B&N Classics edition I have as an ebook and was surprised to learn that Thoreau was dismissed (and praised) as an amateur naturalist in his time and reevaluated as a proto modernist for his writing style and focus on metaphor, language, and consciousness in the 1900s.
Huge numbers of these live beneath a tree that produces these hard little berries. Curious what they are. This is in Taiwan, if that helps.
